Hyperion Application Link (HAL) suppported matrix

Hi folks,
We are looking to upgrade from 9.2 to 11.1.1.3 or 11.1.2. We are looking for an official support matrix that will indicate if we will be supported with HAL on v. 11x.
I found lifetime support application but this document do not tell if HAL is supported on version 11x.

HAL is not officialy supported on version 11x as its going to phase.
I have myself used HAL 9.2 with version 11.1.1.1 & 11.1.1.3 and it worked pretty fine, so i think you can go ahead and use it if you really want to use it.
Version 11.1.2 i am yet to test but not sure as there are lot of configuration changes in 11.1.2

Hyperion Application Link (HAL)

 We ran a sample.prp file which was perfectly working well. We then rerun the file and got the following error message: "VBIS Exception set by "Hyperion Planning" in "Flow Diagram1': Exception: Connection refused to host: PLN; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused:connect We were perplexed to receive such an error when a minute before we did the last run, it was working find. We are using HAL Version 3.0 which runs on Vignette Business Integration Studio Version 6.1 and we encountered the error when it tries to log on to the host Server PLN. Has anyone experienced such message and any idea on the resolution? I believe the resolution to this should not be much difference to HAL V7 or any other version, if you are using a different version from us. 

I ran into a similar issue with HAL Version 7. After digging through the installation guide I found that the RMI service was not started on application server. To start the RMI service I used the shell script found here: /opt/apps/hyperion/common/RMI I hope this helps.

A Question about Hyperion Application Link (HAL)

Do we recomand to use HAL to load data?
I noticed that I should use a program named "Vignette® V7 Business Integration Studio" to use HAL. But I can not foud it in the edelivery. Where can I download it?

HAL was a Hyperion branded version of Vignette, so hence the name.
HAL is a reasonable tool for simple to medium complexity integrations into Essbase or Planning and works pretty well.
As the other poster mentioned it will soon not be supported and you need to look into ODI, DIM or FDM options. DIM and FDM are purchasable options, but you should get a a reduced license ODI included (similar to HAL) on v9.3+. ODI and DIM are more robust ETL/ELT tools, where as FDM is a slightly different proposition that allows local entities to take control of loading and mapping their source data, with robust auditing etc.

Error Hyperion Application Link - Process VBIS Exception set by

I am having problems with the implementation of a routine of HAL, every time you run the following error appears:
Exception VBIS set by 'file_test_extract.txt' in 'Formats values Entity': Unexpected Exception Flat File: Flat File: internal error: unexpected exception
I use the Hyperion Application Link 3.0
extraio and data from Hyperion Enterprise 6.2.2.16
Somebody help me?

If the routine has been working until this point, I would suspect something is wrong with the file you are trying to load. Open it in a text viewer to look for any unexpected characters such as additional delimitter characters (or too few). It sounds like the HAL integration is light on data validation and some bad data is causing an exception.

Hi,
According to me hyperion application link is ETL tool of hyperion bBut no longer used any more. It was used for Hyperion Planning 9. But no longer available for hyperion planning 11.
Please correct me if i am wrong.

HAL has been history for quite some time and the new fashion is ODI. I don't think it's available anywhere else but edelivery. However try this site for info on newer versions of the software: http://www.vignette.com/
However, it will not include Hyperion adapters and I am in doubt that it would support adapters of legacy versions.

Hyperion Application Link query

Hi All,
Is it possible for us to get the dimension structure from planning to a csv file using HAL(preferrably in the format that we can use to load the dimension file again)?
The above exercise is to modify the existing dimension structure. Is it possible to move dimension members (from hierarchy to another) using HAL without causing the underlying data to get deleted?

What you want/need/could use is ODI. It has this awesome reverse-engineering module.
See: http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/10/odi-series-essbase-outline-extractor.html for an example of how to do this. John Goodwin's blog is also awesome for a bunch of other things, too.
Really, it's cool beyond words (sad, no?).
Once you've got that out to a .csv or a table (my preference), you could point it wherever you want.
Not to repeat myself, but ODI is an amazingly capable tool. It is a full-featured ETL (Oracle calls it ELT) tool that can do as much or as little as you wish. Whereas HAL always took the latter path.
Yes, it is another tool, but you're going there sooner or later as HAL isn't exactly on Oracle's product roadmap.

Yup, the only good news is that ODI doesn't stink to high heaven the way HAL did.
In case you can't tell, I was never a fan of HAL. "Necessary evil" kept on popping up in my mind whenever the spaghetti came on screen.
A full rewrite is in your future -- now you can do it the way you always wanted to with a proper tool. :)

BPM Application Link does not appear in BPM Workspace (11.1.1.7)

I spent huge amount of time to reveal why does that happens.
All that follows further is valid for BPM Suite 11.1.1.7.
The scenario.
You developed a simple BPM process with Initiator pattern (maybe by following the "Quote Request" tutorial).
But the application link did not appear in BPM Workspace.
Here i'm skipping any kind of mistakes as "oh, incorrect swimlane", "oh, i did not include the user to the app role" and so on.
At first, you should know about the "feature" - You have to attach task form to the Initiator Human Task to see the App Link.
The simplest way to do that is to AutoGenerate task form (and deploy it, of course).
Else the Appication Link will not appear.
One exception to this rule - If your Task HAS NO PAYLOAD (no parameters) the Task Form is not required (to appearing of the Application Link).
The second find is a bug (is think so).
If you edited the Role that Attached to the swimlane of Initiator Task, you will not see the Application Link.
If you look to organization.xml you will see something like this:
 <ns1:applicationRole id="StartTask.InitRole" isProcessRole="true">
 <ns5:name>StartTask.InitRole1</ns5:name>
 <ns1:processRole id="InitRole" name="InitRole1"/>
 </ns1:applicationRole>
The Application Link will appear ONLY IF THE "applicationRole id", "applicationRole name" and "processRole id" have the same value.
When you edit name of the application role in Organization Editor you change "applicationRole name" and "processRole name" values.
After that "applicationRole id" != "applicationRole name" and the Link does not appear.
How to fix?
Just edit organization.xml (with external editor) - change the "applicationRole name" to the value of "applicationRole id".
That allows to have value of "processRole name" something like "The Initiator Role" - that value appears in the BPMN diagram of process.
Also you can edit organization.xml with Organization Editor and set the Name to the value of "applicationRole id".
In that case the associated swimlane will have the same name as the "applicationRole id".

Hi,
I opened iTunes last night to synch my iPhone and it acted very oddly. iTunes installed a bunch of songs I had throw in the recycling bin and re-imported a bunch of album artwork. Small problems that I quickly resolved.
iTunes also gave me a weird message about applications (I didn't realize it was a big deal so I didn't read it, something about saving over new applications with older applications) so I said no.
The big issue - my applications link is now missing from the left menu screen (it used to be below the Podcasts link). I don't know how to update any applications or manage my applications without that link.

How to track changes in a hyperion application for SOX control?

Hello all,
We have been working on identifying the best way on how to track changes in a hyperion application in regards to the SOX control.
The following areas have been identified as the main areas of an application where the changes are to be tracked:
Monthly data load from ODI
Calculation of data
Metadats change
Formula edit
Changes to reports
Changes to security
Can anybody please suggest the best ways to do this? Has anyone experienced this issue before?
Somebody suggested that there is hyperion auditing available.
Is there any other software that is available that can do this or just documenting the changes would be the best option?
Please suggest. Toyr response would be appreciated.

Shared Services allows the auditing of provisioning and life-cycle management activities to track changes to security objects and the artifacts that are exported or imported using Lifecycle Management Utility.

Planning Administrators can select aspects of the application for change tracking. For example, you can track changes to metadata, such as when users change a member property or add a currency. You can also track changes in data forms, business rules, workflow, users, access permissions, and so on.

Multiple base load in same Hyperion Application

Need to have some clarity over the multiple base load in same Hyperion application. Just to give some background of the requirement our current HFM application captures the base level data in Indian GAAP reporting structure only just like any other incorporation would do in their statutory reporting format. Now we are looking at prospects and possible impact of capturing, at base level data, both as per Indian GAAP and IFRS formats- both being active but populated by different end users.
We would like to receive some valuable inputs as to how feasible it is to capture at base level, financials of different GAAP as part of same application substantiated by an example, if any. In other words what could be the possible challenges and adverse impact because of the the multiple base load. One such impact which I could foresee could be handling of business rules and validations for different base load in the same rule file.
Please provide your valuable inputs on the same.

To clarify the question:
the query asks for multiple base loads - i.e Base / Lowest level data being loaded into the application (loaded thru FDM, Data Forms etc - and not Journals/Adjustments), both for Indian GAAP and IFRS, parallely
The requirement is to specifically load both Indian GAAP and IFRS as base level information - to enable both reporting journeys, in the same application.
i.e:
- 1 base load in Indian GAAP, with related IFRS adjustments to reach financials as per IFRS requirement
- 1 base load in IFRS, with related Indian GAAP adjustments to reach financials as per Indian Gaap requirements
Both hierarchies - operating within the same application - but for two different set of entity hierarchies, for two different end-user groups, with different reporting timelines.
What are your inputs, from a Best Practice approach - whether to develop such structures as part of the same application or go for separate applications - from a design, development, testing and ongoing maintenance perspective

BPM 11g: Adding external application link to process workspace

Hi,
In my project, I have a requirement to show a search link the applications panel of the process workspace (link will trigger a ADF application). Currently it is being implemented using a process with a single initiator task. The disadvantage of this approach is that a new instance is created for every new search. It unnecessarily invokes BPM which is not required as there isn't any flow.
In 10g, we can implement this using a 'Global Interactive Activity'. Is there any equivalent to that in 11g or any other other workaround so that I can only have the application link in the workspace instead of creating a instance every time?

I think there are also some samples on java.net for Oracle BPM Suite however this appears to be down at the time of posting so I can not validate this.

Process Controls 10 - Missing application links

Hello
We are having an issue where three of our application links for process control are not appearing in NWBC. I have activated them in LPD_CUST. They were visible before I put them in a package and transport. After the populating the transport the links were appearing as Application 1 (Description in language English doesn't exists). I went into LPD_CUST and manually updated the description field for each link that was displaying this. All of the links were updated with the correct text and visible except the following:
Indirect Entity-Level Control Evaluations
Indirect Entity-Level Control Evaluations by Organization
Risk Assessment Results
I have tried to delete and re-copy from the repository launchpad but the links still do not appear. Below are some screen shots from LPD_CUST and NWBC. Anyone know why these links would not appear when the others do? Especially when they were appearing prior to inclusion in package / transport.

OK, to answer my own question.
It was not a "problem", but a "feature".
I had the server starting in development mode, so by default process instances are terminated upon redeployment.
Editing the setDomainEnv.cmd and setting
set PRODUCTION_MODE=true
solved my "problem".
