Hypersensitive trackpad & gestures don't function

The only gesture to work is the two finger up/down scroll. No others work.
Also, at times the trackpad is hypersensitive and will click through a link when the cursor is over it with even the merest (accidental) brush of a finger or touch. Similarly, making the lightest contact with the trackpad often brings up the right mouse click options. At other times, just a touch will highlight all text on a page (cmd+a).
Trackpad is erratic to say the least! Suggestions, or is it a case of 'me too' - there should be a fix soon?

Even the two-finger scroll is a bit odd. The manual says that two-finger scrolling moves the Timeline or Playhead left or right. What does it mean by "or Playhead" here?

  • The trackpad/gestures is not working correctly on mountain lion

    Hello,
    After I have downloaded Mountain Lion, my trackpad/gestures is not working correctly.  I cannot swipe with the three fingers, etc. and have to reboot and then it works, but will eventually not work over time.  Does anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    I am having the same problem now.
    Was okay when first installed on date of Mountain Lion release.
    Now I have lost function in Spaces.
    Spaces would only work if I used Dock icon to move between Spaces.
    Now just run everything in one Space.

  • Simultaneous trackpad gestures gone in Lion

    I used to be able to perform trackpad gestures at the same time as clicking down on the trackpad. This has gone in Lion; now when you click, no gestures can be performed at the same time. Can this be turned back on?
    Examples of where I used to use it (and I did it a LOT):
    • Click down on a file, then with my other hand I'd do a 4 finger swipe up to show the desktop. This is an easy way to drag files to folder on the desktop/pen drives etc.. without having to do it in finder.
    • Same as above, but with a 4 finger swipe down to being up Expose. When dragging files in/out/to/from different applications, it's nice to be able to do this all from the trackpad.
    I know for the second one I can just press F3 to bring up mission control, and there's probably an easy solution for the desktop as well, but it just seems weird that since upgrading to the new OS, I actually lose functionality from the trackpad.

    I was having the same problem, I found a fix by changing the preferences to without inertia and after a reboot it fixed the problem, I can now scroll with inertia.  Looks like a .plist got jumbled.

  • Trackpad gestures to double-click/drag to select whole words?

    Using a mouse in a TextEdit document, I can double-click a word to select it at once. Double-click/drag alters the selection word-at-a-time. Similarly, triple- and quadruple- clicks might have other handy functions.
    What trackpad gestures allow me to do the same word-at-a-time selection?

    D'oh! There are mouse buttons in the lower left and right corners of the Magic Pad! So to word-at-a-time select (with the right hand), use the thumb to click-then-hold the lower left mouse button, and the index finger to adjust the selection.

  • Lion: Trackpad-Gestures disabled while Drag&Drop

    Dear Community
    Since I have Lion on my MBA (late 2010), some gestures don't work anymore...
    e.g. when i want to move a file into a folder: on Snow Leopard, i dragged the file with the left hand on my trackpad, then i used two fingers of my right hand to scroll down and i dropped the file into the folder i wanted to move the file.. Worked like a charm...
    Now on Lion: when i'm dragging a file or something, all other gestures are disabled!! :-( is this a setting? Or am I the only one with this problem?

  • Trackpad gestures not working after migration assistant

    I just got a new 13" macbook pro for my wife.  I initially created an admin account for myself and everything seemed fine.  Then I ran the migration assistant to import my wife's account from her old macbook (~3 years old, running snow leopard).  Now some trackpad gestures, like the 2 finger scroll, don't work in her account.  Some do, like pinching and unpinching to zoom.
    I've tried turning all the gestures off in preferences, then turning them back on again, but to no avail - 2 finger scroll doesn't want to work.
    It seems like it must be some old trackpad settings that are overriding the new - her old macbook had the button and did not do gestures.  But I don't know how to get rid of any imported trackpad settings so it will go back to default behavior.

    Same thing happen to me. Had to go into iTunes folder and use old iTL file to get iTunes to open again. But after I did that my iPhone now isn't being recognized by iTunes and it wants me to wipe it. I also can't update to iTunes 11...I'm stuck on 10. It says I should update when I manually check for update but the store says there is nothing for me to download. This is so frustrating.

  • What apps block trackpad gestures.?

    I just realized that I can not use trackpad gestures (scrolling,punching)in my primary user account on my. Mac.  Gestures et al seem to work fine on my "alternate" user account I created fresh to use for troubleshooting). Migrated my prime account from my older Mac to my current new Mac. I could not use gestures on my older Mac. So seems to me there is a setting or software which blocks gestures in my user account.
    Has anyone else experienced this?  What account settings or software could be doing this?  I removed al log in start up items except for Dropbox  and an"Adobe Synchronizer"   I don't know what that is so  did not want to remove.
    Your ideas are welcome as I am stumped.

    The aluminum Macbook Pro does not include any more multitouch trackpad gestures than the unibody white Macbook does.

  • Trackpad Gestures deactivate after Macbook Pro shut down.

    In order to reactivate the trackpad gestures after a shut down, I simply need to launch the Better Touch Tool application. Is there a way to permanently activated the gestures, regardless of shut down?
    Many thanks!

    Hello mrdp88,
    Thank you for the question.  Have you tried adding Better Touch Tool to your Login Items?  Applications in your list of Login Items will launch after you restart your computer.
    Use these steps to add Better Touch Tool to your Login Items:
    Add or remove automatic items
    Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
    Select your user account, then click Login Items.
    Do one of the following:
    Click Add ( + ) below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
    Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete ( - ) below the list on the right.
    You can find the full article here:

  • Thunderbolt and trackpad gestures

    Will thunderbolt devices work in Windows 7 through boot camp?  And do trackpad gestures (2 finger swiping, etc) work in windows 7?
    Thanks!

    I don't think anyone can know yet how and when Thunderbolt support will come and under what constraints it will operate under when run on bootcamp. Thunderbolt as a technology hasn't even generally been released by Intel yet, and until development occurs across a fairly wide spectrum of developers you won't see a lot of compatibility.

    iPod 5G video 30Gb + Belkin TuneTalk stereo recording don't function on firmware 1.2.1
    every 48 second it skips for 1 - 2 seconds in HQ MODE
    Belkin say: It's how Apple manage the write from storage to hard disc
    It's a shame that this is already more then 5 mounths !!!!
    no possibilaty to downgrade the firmware..;(
    1 not one note on Belkin.com site (they still sell it !!)
    or
    2 on Apple update site
    NOTE here on the discussion from januari 2007 !!!
    When I record in stereo, it skips through out the recording. I'll be listening to what I have recorded, and I'll notice that chunks of about 3 seconds are missing from the recording
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)   G5

    actually a very similar problem here. the recording was 35 min and it jumps and skips down to about 7 min. I thought it was a problem with the wav file that was recorded so I converted it to mp3 to and the same problem.
    i do have firmware 1.2.1 but had never successfully used it before this attempt. did you ever get any resolution on this?

  • TextArea Validation Widget don't function with Prototype

    I have seen that TextAreaValidationWidget don't function
    properly if is loaded also the Prototype library. To verify, I have
    also simply insert this code in the HEAD section of the
    FormsValidation Demo included in the framework:
    quote:
    <script type='text/javascript'
    src='prototype.js'></script>
    By adding this file, the validation of text field is running
    properly but the validation of textarea doesn't. The Firefox
    console of errors report:
    quote:
    Invalid Quantifier +);} catch (e) {if!=$continue) {throw
    e;}}});} catch(e) {if(e!=$break){thow e; }} return this;}\b
    in SpryValidationTextarea.js line 785
    Do you know how to solve this?
    I use Spry 1.4, prototype 1.5.0 (because I use also lightbox
    2.0)

    Hi,
    Based on a previous report we fixed this bug in the Spry 1.5
    preview release. To fix this bug you should edit the
    SpryValidationTextarea.js. Search for the:
    Spry.Widget.ValidationTextarea.prototype.switchClassName =
    function (className){
    and inside you should see around line 763 the following code:
    for (var k in classes){
    if (classes[k] != className){
    this.removeClassName(classes[k]);
    This code should change to the following:
    for (var k = 0; k < classes.length; k++){
    if (classes[k] != className){
    this.removeClassName(classes[k]);
    Please let me know about your results.

  • Trackpad gesture acting weird.

    I have a 13" MBP, purchased Mid-2012. It has been wonderful so far. I use most of the trackpad gestures frequently. I have searched high and low for an answer to my problem. My trackpad has been flawless up until the last week. Show Desktop is a gesture that I use a LOT. Within the past week that gesture seems to do it on its own. If I just touch the trackpad sometimes Show Desktop will activate. I narrowed it down to when I swipe from the bottom left corner to the top right corner is when it only works. And it's only that gesture. I have tried everything I can to fix this. I shut off all of my gestures, restarted, shut down, and even re-installed Mountain Lion. None of that worked. Although I use the gesture a lot, it gets annoying quickly. Just wondering if there was any explanation to this and if it's just me. Thanks in advance.

    I must also add that when I figured out the gesture from corner to corner, it was only using one finger.

  • Bug when using four finger trackpad gesture to switch between apps?

    When I use the four figure trackpad gesture to toggle between apps, once I select the app it is shown the app is selected in the menu bar, but it doesn't open minimized windows. Maybe this how it is supposed to operate, but if I have a minimized window, I want the "app toggler" to restore it. The point of me using the "app toggler" is to avoid me having to go to the dock.

    Glad to help.
