I accidentally set a remote mac to "remote management" while screen sharing. Can I remotely reset it to screen sharing?

I accidentally set a remote mac to "remote management" while screen sharing. I did not realize that this set it to require the commercial Apple Remote Desktop application to get to it. Can I remotely reset it to screen sharing? It has disconnected me from accessing it using iCloud.

Good question, and I am not sure. I believe the remote login WAS checked, so if that is needed, I think that is a available, unless checking Remote Management unchecked Login.
I am not computer illiterate, but I am not a professional IT guy. I read about more subjects than I know. Back to My Mac should still be set up in iCloud and I have seen some discussion of using ssh with that, and I am gathering that you are talking about ssh when you talk of remote shell access?
Thanks.

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • Setting Up Your Mac is frozen on my screen. Help

My son updated the laptop that is now mine and the update seemed successful. Tonight when I opened the laptop and then entered the password the laptop "did its thing" and then a white box with a grey outline of a computer, 3 check marks and some lines like a list showed on the screen.  Then nothing. That picture is still on the screen and won't budge.

    Hello MommaEck,
I would recommend reinstalling Mavericks on your Mac. This process is non-destructive, and should not affect any data that is already on the computer.

  • Setting up Remote Desktop Apps for access from a Mac with 2FA

    Hi
Setting up Remote Desktop Apps for access from a Mac with 2FA.
I have a server 2012 remote access gateway, with remote apps published(which uses single signon), behind a 2FA connection (web based) and want to know if its possible to allow macs to connect to the remote Apps behind it. i cannot permanently remove any
of the above setup as it is a requirement.
When i connect from a mac i can login to both the 2FA and remote access web pages and see all the apps but when i click on any app it downloads it to the mac and when i try to run it using Remote Desktop App for MAC i get an error :
"httpendpointexception: 4, The non-proxy http connection failed to connect with the message: 500 internal Server Error."
I have tried with 2fa turned off for testing and get the same result.Does it support 2012 TSGW server? does it support Remote desktop apps? as i cant find a definitive answer on either.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From Error description it seems to be a communication issue between your Mac and your RD gateway server. If you connect from extranet, you may need Remote Desktop Gateway or a VPN/Direct Access connection to your intranet, or forward port 3389 on your router.
500 Internal Server Error seems to be a HTTP related error.
The HTTP status code in IIS 7.0, IIS 7.5, and IIS 8.0
Also, please double check the settings if you have a RD gateway implemented in you intranet.
    http://redmondmag.com/articles/2013/12/24/rd-gateway-in-windows-server.aspx
In Windows Server 2012 R2 RD Gateway pluggable authentication is also introduced. This allows custom authentication routines to be used with RD Gateway. For example building a two-factor solution on top of RD Gateway is now possible which allows doing token-authentication
to the RD Gateway which works seamlessly with RD Web Access or RDP file launching.
Please check below article for more information.
Windows Server 2012 R2 is coming what does this add to RDS – VDI
In addition, please provide the log file from the client for further research.

  • Set up Remote Access for Mac Mini

I recently bought a Mac Mini and set it up at home. It is running on Mac OS X 10.8.3, and runs on Server 2.2.1 and Airport Utilities 6.2. I would like to be able to access the Mac Mini server from outside my home. Does anyone know the procedure of setting up remote access (through SSH or VPN) without creating an internet domain name? Thanks!
I'm quite new to many of the Apple products, so it would be good if the answers are clearer and more detailed. Thanks!

As Barney-15E says, Back-to-My-Mac is the best option.
    After that, try TeamViewer.com
ssh can be done, but there are setup details with respect to your home router to allow port 22 from the Internet side to your Mac mini <http://portforward.com>.  And then you will need a dynamic DNS name from someone like No-IP.com or DynDNS.org so you can find your home router.  Once you have that setup, you should make sure you use a good strong password, as you have now exposed a known port to the internet <http://xkcd.com/936/> and <https://www.grc.com/haystack.htm>.  Don't forget to enable System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Login.  So now you can ssh, but what do you want to do with that?  You can create ssh tunnels for VNC screen sharing and AFP file sharing.
    ssh -L 22590:localhost:5900 -L 22548:localhost:548 [email protected]
Now you have logged in and you have 2 tunnels.  How to use them.
    Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://localhost:22590
    Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> afp://localhost:22548
    Back-to-My-Mac and/or TeamViewer.com are easier

  • Can i set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and Windows 7 HP desktop?

I am wanting to set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and HP windows 7 home edition desktop.  Is this possible and how do I begin setting this up?
    Thanks for the help!

There is an app in the Mac App Store to use Microsoft Remote Desktop with a Mac: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
But according to their support site it requires Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate in the Windows 7 side. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473006.aspx
If it was me, I would first look into Teamviewer to see if it will do what you need. It does work between Mac and Windows and it is free for non-commercial use. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

  • Help need setting up remote desktop (on a router)

    hey networking pros,
I have major trouble setting up remote login (remote desktop).
    Specification : OSX tiger, LINKSYS
now i have managed to use tightVNC and manage remote desktop BUT that was when i was on the same network. Now my laptop lies at home and at school (work) i have windows running and want to access my mac at home. I cant manage to do that. Since i am on a different network and that i have router at home and also i do not use air port express (i use a linksys)
I need a static ip which in need to know the DNS servers (adelphia dosent give that to me since i am not a business customer). I have enabled port forwarding (5900) i have even set up an an account with dysDNS.org (i dunno how that helped).
can some one please give me with step by step instruction.
    thanks

You already have most of what you need, but you do need a little more understanding of what you're doing.
Keep in mind that the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client is one-way only. You can connect from a Mac to a Window XP Professional computer, but not from Windows XP Pro to Mac OS X. What I describe below is how to connect from a Mac on the Internet to a Windows XP Pro computer at home.
First, Remote Desktop may look like VNC, but it's not the same thing. Therefore, port 5900, which works with VNC, won't work for Remote Desktop. You'll want to port forward 3389 to make this work. When you go to your router and make this port forward entry, you'll enter the IP address of the machine you want to direct all RDC traffic to. This gets the RDC traffic from your router to your computer.
You went to DynDNS.org to help you find your router on the Internet. The IP address, as you've researched, can change. But if you set up your router to report its IP address to DynDNS then you can always connect to your router by name. You don't have to keep track of your IP address changing. DynDNS will do this for you. This gets the RDC traffic from you to your router.
    So, the steps are:
    1. Set up a DynDNS.org account and you'll give yourself a name such as "myrouter" so that you can use a name like "myrouter.homeip.net" to connect to your home network.
    2. On your router, port forward all incoming Internet 3389 traffic to the IP address and port 3389 of your computer.
    3. On your Windows XP Pro computer (you can't do this with Windows XP Home) enable the Remote Desktop Connection software (right-click My Computer --> Properties --> Remote tab --> select the second checkbox).
    4. From a Mac somewhere on the Internet, open the RDC client and enter the DynDNS name you gave yourself and click the Connect button.
    5. Your Mac will contact DynDNS and get your current IP address.
    6. Your Mac will then connect to your home router, which will forward all RDC traffic (coming in on port 3389) to your Windows computer in your home.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Can you set up Remote app to Apple TV without original Apple TV remote?

I lost my Apple TV remote, so I tried looking up other ways to control my Apple TV. I found the Apple Remote app, but I can't get it to work. The setup information I found indicates that you have to turn on home sharing on the Apple TV, but that can't be done without a remote. Obviously I don't have a remote right now, so I'm trying to find out if there's another way to get my Remote app to work on my Apple TV without the original remote. Can anyone help?

Can be done. All you need is your iPhone/ Ipad.
Learn how to set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) using an iOS 7 device.
With Apple TV software 6.0 or later, you can set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) by transferring the following from your iOS 7 device:
    Wi-Fi network and password
    iTunes Store account
    Language and region format preferences
    System requirements
To use your iOS device to set up Apple TV, you need the following:
Apple TV (3rd generation) using Apple TV software 6.0 or later
One of these iOS devices using iOS 7 or later
    iPhone 4s or later
    iPad (3rd generation or later)
    iPad mini
    iPod touch (5th generation)
    Setting up your Apple TV
Follow these steps to set up your Apple TV (3rd generation) using your iOS 7 device.
Connect your Apple TV to your television and power and wait until your Apple TV displays the setup screen.
Unlock your iOS 7 device and ensure that Bluetooth is enabled. Also ensure that you are connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to use with Apple TV.
Touch your iOS device to your Apple TV and wait for the prompts to appear on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Enter your Apple ID and password on your iOS device.
Choose if you want Apple TV to remember your Apple ID password, and if you want Apple TV to send data to Apple.
This does not change your iOS device preferences.
Your Apple TV will start the configuration process, including connecting to your Wi-Fi network, activating Apple TV, and setting up your iTunes Store account.
When complete, your Apple TV is ready to use.
    Troubleshooting tips
If you encounter an issue setting up your Apple TV using an iOS device, try the following:
If the Automatic Setup screen doesn't appear when you touch your iOS device to the Apple TV, verify that you:
Have an Apple TV (3rd generation) using Apple TV software 6.0 or later.
Use a supported iOS device with iOS 7 or later.
Note: iPhone 4 and iPad 2 are not supported.
Verify that your iPhone is unlocked and that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on.If the issue persists, press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iOS device, then press the Home button and slide to unlock and try again.
While configuring your Apple TV, keep your iOS device within 10 to 15 feet of your Apple TV until the configuration process completes. If you go out of range or the setup doesn't complete, restart your Apple TV by unplugging it from power for a few seconds and then reconnecting it.
If you are still unable to set up your Apple TV with your iOS device, you can set up your Apple TV with the included remote instead.

  • WVC80N software "unable to set up remote viewing" with TZO

I've researched this all night and I'm now begging for help.
I've got the camera all set up and I can view it while on the local network.  The problem comes in when I try to sign up for the 90-day free TZO trial that comes with the camera to try to get remote viewing on my iPhone.  I progress through the Linksys setup software (as is detailed here: http://www.tzo.com/MainPageSupport/HowToPage/LinksysHomeMonitoringNCameraTutorial.html) and between steps 7 and 8, I get a screen that says "Unable to set up remote viewing" with my network, click this link to learn how to remotely view your camera.  The link takes me to a page on the TZO site that says "Oops, there was an unknown error with setting up you camern for remote access" and nothing else.  It seems to die on the "Configuring Internet Server" step.
Within the camera's setup page, there's a link to the TZO website that tells me that because I have a WVC80N, I have to use the setup CD to set up the 90-day free trial, which fails as described above.
I've set the camera to have a fixed IP of 192.168.1.200
I've set the Alternative Web Access Port to 1024
In Port Range Forwarding in the router, I've set 1024 to 1024 to forward to 192.168.1.200 (not sure exactly what this does)
    The router is a WRT160N
    Any ideas?

Have you tried getting in touch with TZO and set the DDNS up the old fashioned way?  I also know that TZO has a beta going on of a new IP camera application for remote viewing and this may also help.  Not sure why the setup is failing though, but oook is probably right, something wacky with the router, IP or ISP that the setup software just doesn't like.

  • How to set xr2 remote to "volume lock to TV input"?

Prior to having X1 system, the old "silver with red ok button" remote could be programmed with : VOLUME LOCK
Once you program your remote control
for your TV, the volume buttons will control
the volume on your TV, regardless of which
mode the remote is in (AUX, TV, or Cable).
To set your remote to control the volume
of another device, follow the steps below. The above is straight from the "silver with red ok button" remote manual pdf. This was useful because many HT receivers and HDTV pairings over HDMI have ARC (audio return channel).  When that is enabled, as you change TV volume your tv volume indicator will show up on the tv screen so you know what it's doing -- but the TV is actually sending the commands the HT receiver that's sitting in a cabinet where you can't see it (nor can you see the readout on the HT receiver display from 30ft away).  Now that I have the X1 system and XR2 remote, I can't find an option to lock the volume to the TV when I've paired it with an audio system.  Is there a hidden way to lock the volume buttons to the TV?  This isn't a deal breaker - but is very, very nice to have.

The X1 remotes will "pair" the volume control to either the TV or AVR both not both at the same time. It is one or the the other.
Be careful with X1 boxes and ARC. X1 boxes have very questionable HDMI support and ARC has been questionable. I would avoid using ARC with X1 boxes.
Why don't you stop at a Comcast store and pick up an XR5 or XR11 remote? They are much better than the ZR2 and Comcast locations give them away for free.

  • Set a remote css not included it in head

Set a remote css not included it in <head>
    Hi everyone
Can I set up a css for all page of the website, without include it in <head> ?
    I have this pages structure
    <html>
    <head>
    <?php include $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/head.php' ?>
    </head>
    <body></body></html>
    So, the css link:
    (<link type="text/css" href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" />)
is included into the script /head.php.
I don't need php interpretation live, the only thing that I need is to set a css for all pages without include it in <head>. In fact, I work to single pages like an editor (paste and copy from word document, insert image, set title and meta description ecc.) and for that I need that the styles are applied to pages.
Thanks to all and thanks to google translate!

Put your link to site wide external CSS file inside the  head.php include file.

  • I need step by step instructions to set up Remote Desktop between 2 computers on 2 different networks. Please dumb it down for me.

I need step by step instructions to set up Remote Desktop between 2 computers on 2 different networks. Please dumb it down for me.

I need to do the same, but with more than one computer behind a dynamic-IP NAT:
    OS X Server A -|
                   |
OS X Client 1  |- NAT Router Fixed IP ---|
                   |                         |
    OS X Client 2 -|                         |
                                             |
    OS X Client 3 -|                         |
                   |- NAT Router Dynamic IP -| Internet
    OS X Client 4 -|                         |
                                             |
    OS X Client 5 -|                         |
                   |- NAT Router Dynamic IP -|
    OS X Client 6 -|
I have ARD installed on Client 1 and Client 3 (different locations where I'm at) and I need to manage Client 5 and 6 (and the others, but that amounts to the same problem). Since there are multiple computers behind the NAT, I cannot just patch a port through. I want a secure solution as the traffic goes via the internet.
I have been thinking about letting the users of Client 5 and 6 set up a VPN link to the NAT Router of Client 1 when they need assistance, but when I want to manage this from Client 3, all traffic goes over two VPNs, let alone if the router at Client 1 can manage this in a stable way.
Probably, two assignments in the router of client 5 & 6 would be nice, but can I tell ARD to use different ports for certain machines?

  • Setting up remote network connection with wrt1900ac nubby question

Hi everyone, I am looking to set up remote network connection = been able to be on my network from public place. I have never done it before and i just purchased wrt1900ac and i was wondering if someone can point me to a step by step guidance how to do so. I also obtain static IP address from my internet provider. thank you in advance. I will be connecting with notebook with windows 7 on it

Typically to access LAN devices directly on a remote network you would VPN into the remote network. Either using Port Forwarding and a VPN Server or using a VPN feature built into the router.
This is assuming you don't plan to use something like Logmein or Gotomypc.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.
