I aHow do you execute a Kornshell from a portal portlet?

I am trying to figure out what I have to do to execute a Kornshell from a portal page. The Kornshell runs and does a variety of things not related to portal or its pages. I just what to be able to have users go into portal and launch the kornshell. Can any body get me started?
Thanks
M

Hi,
I can think of your requirement in the lines of J2EE.
I would probably write a Servlet, convert it into a Portlet ( or use JDevleoper & the PDK Wizard to do it ). I could then use the Runtime class in Java & try to call my Shell Script:-
// Declare the Objects
Runtime objRuntime;
Process objProcess;
// Let's get an access to the Runtime Environment
objRuntime = Runtime.getRuntime();
// Let's execute some process.
objProcess = objRuntime.exec(" sh /usr/bin/test.sh");You might need to configure the Security Policy of your JVM on the server to allow this kind of access to a Servlet.
I haven't tried ti - but, I guess with the right docs & tweaks, it would work..:)

Sandeep

• Is there any way to execute process chain from the portal?

Hello,
Is there any way to execute process chain from the portal? I dont want to link process chain with any of report. I want to have a button in some of portal folders. User presses the button and it executes the process chain.
I was thinking about to create a fake planning cube, aggregation level and planning function. I call FM within the Fox planning function that runs the process chain. But it should be done within the report.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance!

• Session not released in backend SAP when executing CR iView from SAP Portal

Hi,
We are in the process of doing some testing. One behavior we have observed is that user sessions are being built up in the backend SAP. Eventually, the next CR execution runs into problem.
We are running the Crystal Reports using an iView in the SAP EP. The iView is delivered by as included with the Integration Kit.
We have modified different time-outs on the BOE server. We are still having the same problem.
Is there something we can do in the portal or the iView to terminate the sessions?
Thanks,
Garry

Hi Ingo, Thank you again for your response and support. Well, the suggestion would be fine if our users would only be satisfied with static data. They normally run the report and expect the latest data from the backend SAP system.
To clarify your points, the user is not running reports at the same time. What the user is doing is this.
- The user runs a report in the portal. As you hae indicated, there is a session against SAP system.
- Once the report is completed, the user runs the next report, and so on.
Each time, the session remains in SAP system. Eventually, I would see a long list of sessions in SAP.
It seems that when the user is clicking on the next report in the portal, the session for the previous report run is not being terminated.
I'm looking for a way to terminate the session at the completion of the report run.
Thansk,
Garry

• Executing BW Workbooks from EP as background process

Hi all!
I need to execute BEX workbooks from Enterprise Portal with automatically predefined values of variables. Iu2019d like to do this in two ways: normal (ordinary way) and as background process (result: xls. file). Can you help me?

Hi Alzatula,
You can do this in information broadcasting.
You can configur broadcast settings for workbooks.
The prerequisite is you need a precalculation server.
Check on sdn, how to register a precalculation server.
You can execute it in foreground or you can schedule it in background.
Check this link, it may help you to set up the broadcast setting.

• Error while executing a report from Planning

Hi,
I've got this error message when I execute a report from Hyperion Planning (web) :
"5200: Error executing query. [1106] Error : Class component property name invalid[DataType]"
Can you help me please ?
Thanks.
Virgile.

I am not sure about it. But i remember once running into a similar issue where i made some changes in the metadata or outline and few members were dropped from the hierarchy and it came up with this error at the time of running
the report as my report was still trying to query the dropped members. But u said you have already checked and all your members are valid on the report. Is this happening with all the reports or just one. If its all the reports i would
restart the BI+ reporting services and then try to run the reports!

• Executing batch file from Java stored procedure hang

Dears,
I'm using the following code to execute batch file from Java Stored procedure, which is working fine from Java IDE JDeveloper 10.1.3.4.
public static String runFile(String drive)
String result = "";
String content = "echo off\n" + "vol " + drive + ": | find /i \"Serial Number is\"";
try {
File directory = new File(drive + ":");
File file = File.createTempFile("bb1", ".bat", directory);
file.deleteOnExit();
FileWriter fw = new java.io.FileWriter(file);
fw.write(content);
fw.close();
// The next line is the command causing the problem
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c " + file.getPath());
BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
String line;
while ((line = input.readLine()) != null)
result += line;
input.close();
file.delete();
result = result.substring( result.lastIndexOf( ' ' )).trim();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
result = e.getClass().getName() + " : " + e.getMessage();
return result;
The above code is used in getting the volume of a drive on windows, something like "80EC-C230"
I gave the SYSTEM schema the required privilege to execute the code.
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'java.io.FilePermission', '<<ALL FILES>>', 'read ,write, execute, delete');
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'writeFileDescriptor', '');
EXEC DBMS_JAVA.grant_permission('SYSTEM', 'SYS:java.lang.RuntimePermission', 'readFileDescriptor', '');
GRANT JAVAUSERPRIV TO SYSTEM;
I have used the following to load the class in Oracle 9ir2 DB:
loadjava -u [system/******@orcl|mailto:system/******@orcl] -v -resolve C:\Server\src\net\dev\Util.java
CREATE FUNCTION A1(drive IN VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 AS LANGUAGE JAVA NAME 'net.dev.Util.a1(java.lang.String) return java.lang.String';
variable serial1 varchar2(1000);
call A1( 'C' ) into :serial1;
The problem that it hangs when I execute the call to the function (I have indicated the line causing the problem in a comment in the code).
I have seen similar problems on other forums, but no solution posted
[http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/oracle-jdeveloper-l/run-an-exe-file-using-oracle-database-trigger-1567662]
I have posted this in JDeveloper forum ([t-853821]) but suggested to post for forum in DB.
Can anyne help?

Dear Peter,
You are totally right, I got this as mistake copy paste. I'm just having a Java utility for running external files outside Oracle DB, this is the method runFile()
I'm passing it the content of script and names of file to be created on the fly and executed then deleted, sorry for the mistake in creating caller function.
The main point, how I claim that the line in code where creating external process is the problem. I have tried the code with commenting this line and it was working ok, I made this to make sure of the permission required that I need to give to the schema passing security permission problems.
The function script is running perfect if I'm executing vbs script outside Oracle using something like "cscript //NoLogo aaa1.vbs", but when I use the command line the call just never returns to me "cmd.exe /c bb1.bat".
where content of bb1.bat as follows:
echo off
vol C: | find /i "Serial Number is"
The above batch file just get the serial number of hard drive assigned when windows formatted HD.
Same code runs outside Oracle just fine, but inside Oracle doesn't return if I exectued the following:
variable serial1 varchar2(1000);
call A1( 'C' ) into :serial1;
Never returns
Thanks for tracing teh issue to that details ;) hope you coul help.

Hi,
The web template 0ADHOC is usually the standard web template for 3.x queries. The Report Designer executes the reports in java web, thus tries to find the template 0ADHOC in the 7.0 templates and does not find it. Check whether you have maintained the standard web template 0ADHOC for 7.0 reports also:
Transaktion SPRO -> SAP Reference Image -> SAP NetWeaver -> Business Intelligence -> Settings for Reporting and Analysis -> Bex Web -> Set Standard Web Templates

• Error when execute a package from SQL Server Agent

We have the next problem:
When we execute a package from a Job of SQL Server agent, it shows the success messege, but reviewing the results, the package didnt do all the tasks.
When we run it mannually by MSIS the package, it shows the success message and it works fine.
The workflow of the package is :
1) Shrink the databases (executing a sql file)
2) Backup the databases (Back up Database task of MSIS)
3) Rename the files to .BAK extension (by the Foreach loop container and fyle system task)
4) Execute command to compress the it (by a .bat)
5) Move the compress file to another location (by another Foreach loop)
Manually run correct, but when is a a SQL AGent Job that execute the package it does only the first 2 steps.

Can you check if account running package has proper access. You may need to define a proxy account for that.

ulimit command- Limit user resources
su - oracle
ulimit -n (this command will show you the current value for ulimit the default value is 1024)
to increase its value:---
ulimit -n <some value> ( this command will change value for current session only)
example
ulimit -n 101062
once done check the value as:--
ulimit -n( for verification)
search in google for more explanation or revert back to me for any suggestions.... :)

• Problem while executing a report from Planning Web

Can you help me please ?

I didn't see anyone post the resolution on this. I recently re-ordered the dimensions in my outline, and afterwards was getting that error. It's a simple fix of changing the database connection to something else, then changing it back. I was able to do this because I have multiple databases with the same outline structure. If you don't, possibly you may just have to re-create the connection, not sure.

• Execute SSIS Package from JOB which contains Execute Process Task calling a .bat file

Hi All,
I have a EXCEL Macro needs to be called from SSIS. We could not use Script task because of some internal reason.
So we have taken an approach to call a .BAT file using Execute Process Task. This .BAT file will call a .VBS file which will execute the EXCEL Macro.
The SSIS Package is running good if I execute the package from BIDS.
But the real problem is with the scheduling this SSIS Package using SQL JOB.
If i execute this SSIS package from SQL Server Job, its executing the whole package successfully except the Execute Process Task.
So the overall issue is SQL Server Job is not executing properly if I call any .BAT file from the SSIS Package.
Please give me suggestion to get rid of the issue. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sai.N,
If you run the SQL Server Agent job manually from SSMS, does the package execute properly? If the package executes properly when you run the job manually, the issue should occur due to permission issue. In this case, I suggest that you create a SQL Server
Agent proxy based on the current Windows account which you use to log onto the operating system, and run the job under the proxy account.
If it is not the issue, please enable logging in the package as Visakh mentioned and post the warning/error message for further analysis.
