I am getting occasional messages to restart my Mac (log report below)

I have run a MacBook Pro for nearly four years without incident.
I have just upgraded to a 21" iMac on 25th May 2012 and since 27th May I have been having to restart the computer after a message appears on the screen stating that a restart is necessary.
I am running OS 10.7.4
I have reset the PRAM and disconnected all external devices and still the problem persists.
We have gone back to the Macbook Pro, and it is very disappointing that such a debilitating issue is afflicting this machine and many others from what I can see. It does appear to be a widespread problem resulting from updatig to 10.7.4????I have heralded far and wide the virtures of OS X over Windows 7 (which I use at work) but I may now have egg on face
The report log is as follows

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
/private/var/run/StartupItems
/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/LaunchDaemons
If not that my first suspect would be RAM.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
If that doesn't solve the problem then remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Should you be in the Canadian App Store? Is that your store? Of not - or of you need to see what store you are in.
    Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID
    Tap your ID
    Tap View Apple ID
    Enter your password
Go to country/region in the popup window to change the store

  • Your website says Firefox is OK for Mac OS 10.4 or higher, but when we downloaded it, we get a message that Firefox needs Mac OS 10.5 or 10.6. What do we do now???

We have a MacBook Pro 17" laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor running at 2.33 GHz speed.
We have 2 GB of RAM and 77 GB of hard drive space.
From what we know from your website, this should work, but when we click on the Firefox icon that we placed in our dock, we get a message: "You cannot use the application 'Firefox' with this version of Mac OS X." How do we proceed from here?

You are unfortunately out of luck with an Intel Mac and OS X 10.4.11.

  • Keeping getting error message on outlook for mac

since changing my account today from me.com to icloud i keep getting an error message on my imac and mb-pro
does anyone know what settings need to changed on outlook to be able to send and receive my me.com email?
Worked perfectly since changing over earlier today.
    The message is
    https://www.icloud.com/#mail
Mail could not be received at this time.
    Account name: "Me"
    any ideas???

you can't use icloud and outlook 2011 / Entourage 2008 for Mac. The app is not supported.  Maximum is Mail via IMAP, but no contacts, tasks, reminders will work.
icloud works only fully with Apple Mac Lion built-in apps : ical, Mail, adress book.
On a Windows-PC, Outlook is a complete different story and there it works with icloud.

If mail continues to get hung up, click here to sign into the Basic version. Basic delivers a great mail experience on slower Internet connections, such as dial-up.
Plus along with that message there is the picture of the weird looking doll made of wires and stuff. Is there a way to fix this? I like Firefox, but cannot continue trying to use it if I cannot get my mail. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your help. Under Firefox I went to history, cleared that, then I could access my email.

I would look at faulty RAM as a first suspect.
Run the #3 Hardware Test extended overnight to test the RAM, replace original, return/exchange if it's faulty.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Make sure you placed the correct RAM in, specs have to be exact.
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/index.aspx
Next if that's not a issue, perhaps when OS X was reinstalled and/or reimaged from backup it could have been faulty
Run Step #8 and others appropriately to overwrite software with a new copy, fix other issues (I suspect by #8 you'll be fine)
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Lastly if your STILL having problems, it's likely the hard drive with bad sectors under essential OS X data that hasn't had a chance to be mapped off the drive firmware yet.
Fixing this is more involved, as it requires all user data backed up, the entire Macintosh HD partition (preferably the entire drive if possible) Disk Utility > Security Erase > Zero all Data, then OS X reinstalled fresh, programs from fresh sources (no corruption) and lastly Users files returned to the machine. (may be your problem, but odds are it's not)
IF by chance this doesn't fix the issue, the hard drive is likely defective causing issues with data on the sectors (which I doubt it is going by what your saying.)

Hi Dann, did you delete to the Recycle Bin, or did you do a more drastic permanent delete (e.g., Shift+Delete) or empty the Recycle Bin?
''If you think it might be in the Recycle Bin:''
First, make sure hidden folders are viewable. You can do that using Windows Explorer or My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab. Look for the radio buttons to show or not to show hidden files and folders.
Now look for C:\Documents and Settings\''username''\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles or some part of that path, or your actual profile folder, which would have had a semi-random name, typically ending with default, or the bookmarkbackups folder, which is the ultimate prize.
''If it's not in the Recycle Bin:''
To recover your old Firefox settings folder (profile folder), try using a utility like Piriform's Recuva:
    http://www.piriform.com/recuva
That needs to run ASAP before deleted files are overwritten.
The folder you're looking for would have had a semi-random name, but be located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\''username''\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
By default, that folder is hidden. Make sure hidden folders are viewable. You can do that using Windows Explorer or My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab. Look for the radio buttons to show or not to show hidden files and folders.
In particular, a bookmarkbackups folder would be a wonderful thing to be able to recover.
Hopefully one of these methods will work for you.
