start programming in flash.. what are all basic things need to
know..What is the Object Oriented Programming... is there any good
tutorials to understand.. i am having basic knowledge please any

New to action script 3 and am really confused

Hello and thank you in advance for helping if you can. I have a website banner that I made in flash. Everything works great and the last thing I need to do is add some script to it. One code is simple the stop action. So I added a new layer, called it actions and then clicked on the last frame inserted a blank keyframe and then opened the action window and typed in stop(); It worked great the banner cycled through once then stopped.
Now here comes the part that has me stumped. I need to make this banner link to an external website. so this is what I did. On the actions layer I clicked the first frame and opened the actions window, Oh first I have a block of text converted to symbol (movie clip) and named the instance click_mc, then in the actions script window this is what I typed

I ran the debugger and got this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I guess it's telling me there's a problem with line 48 but what?
The home, about, business, contact, and archives button works. On the business page there are the remaining buttons biotech, technology, real estate, and energy. when i test it; i get the finger but the buttons don't work. this is my first flash site so I'am new, new.

I followed the steps and read some of your comments on the same top topic in another thread. When I put it on the first frame it was okay but the next button on that page had the same problem. So what I am guessing is that I have to either create a document class or put the actions where the buttons are. Am I understanding that correctly? In the other thread in which you helped someone else; there was so comments about document class. I found a tutorial on it and the way I understand it is that it you can put you actions in an external document. But you have to include in the event listener the frame in which you want that action to happen.

How to use fscommand or equivilant in action script 3

Hello every one,
I am new to action script 3, I want to burn my flash
projector file on a CD so that when it plays it opens in full
screen mode with movie size set to 100% and no scaling allowed. I
use to do it with FScommand in previous versions but it doesn't
work in flashcs3. Can someone help this poor soul how to use it in
actionscript3.

do a search for fscommand in the Flash CS3 help and look for
a file heading called AS2.0 Migration Once you find that file, do a
search for fscommand again inside the document.

Video Gallery Action Script 3

I am creating a video gallery off of the demo action script
3, video gallery, that is shown on this site. I have updated the
XML file that contains the link to the thumbnails and videos to the
appropriate url. When I test the project out, I get the following
error:
TypeError: Error #1085: The element type "video" must be
terminated by the matching end-tag "</video>".

free xmlpad editor for windows. Why? because it supports
editing the
dating in 3 different ways: Source <which has syntax/tag

Grid , Table.. the grid is easiest to use and helps avoid
deleting tags
by mistake, which is what it sounds like you did based on the
error
message. If the above was a straight cut and paste of your
xml file then
you are missing
the </videos> tag that belongs between
</video> and </flashvideogallery>
I have personally spent the last week playing with the
example and
modifying it to have a scrollbar so that i can show more than
36 videos,
and have edited the xml files to add more entries.

My CS4 crashes when opening a new action script 3

Hello folks,
I’m new to Flash and am currently taking a class, so please forgive me if this turns out to be an obvious fix, but I’m using flash for the first time and have been trying to open a new flash file: action script 3 but haven’t been successful cause the program immediately crashes. I’ve checked to confirm that my laptop meets the requirements so I’m not sure what it could be.
…Any suggestions? I’ve attached the error reports.

Thanks for the reply Ned. It does crash when opening AC2 also. And I do have the most current updates. Correction: it does open under "guest" user account in both ac2 and ac3.
FYI. the other apps in CS4 work in my profile. And my laptop is new and meets the standards to run the app.
...Any suggestions? I would be most greatful for any feedback in correcting this issue.

Cs5 on a new pc transferring actions/scripts/pre-sets etc?

I have just upgraded computers and re-installed CS5 on it.
Is it possible to cut and paste actions/scripts/pre-sets etc from old pc to new one.
If so how/where would I find them?

New to flash / action script 3

hi guys,
got sick of playing flash games and want to learn to create.
i downloaded a gif of sub zero from mortal kombat...the gif has all the frames for each action like jumping / punching etc.
i have imported it into flash and i have organised the key frames so when i press enter it looks pretty smooth.
will i be able to control it like this with keyboard using action script? or do i have to convert it to a vector graphic?
or is this just not possible.
can anybody please recommend me a good flash/as3 book to read please...i know there are lots...

New to apple script...

Hi I am new to apple script; I was using Automator but it became too dumb to it's surroundings after a while. Can you please tell me why these don't do what I think they should; Safari has 2 windows open one with four tabs (window 1 as I have used exists to be sure of) and one with 9 (window 2).

all it does is bring the frontmost safari window up

There are a couple of reasons behind this, mostly because you're using the wrong command.
The main thing is that the 'activate' command is used to activate the application. Any other parameters (such as 'tab 6 of window 2') are discarded.
Instead, the appropriate syntax is to set the current tab property of the window:
tell application "Safari"
  set current tab of window 2 to (tab 6 of window 2)
end tell
It's a little verbose, but it works.
If you also want to bring that window frontmost you need to change its index:
tell application "Safari"
  tell window 2
    set current tab to (tab 6 of window 2)
    set index to 1
  end tell
end tell
Note though that changing the window index will now also change this window to 'window 1' instead of 'window 2'. Something to bear in mind if you're taking further actions.

Error message with Action Script 2.0 file

Hi,
I am trying to edit an old flash file that uses Action Script 2.0. I am using CS6 and keep getting the following error message after publishing:
Scene 1, Layer 'AS', Frame 1, Line 5, Column 29
1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type int to an unrelated type String.
Can you suggest any fixes or workarounds? I also have Flash 4.0. Can i downsave the file? If so, how?

Thank you. I think that did fix the original two errors. But now upon test of the file, I get some new errors:

Error while loading an child movieclip if the child has any action script

I am developing an application where I need to load a child.swf . All works fine when I load the mc but as soon as I add Action Script (lets say trace("test")) to the Child.swf I get a Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. On the addChild line.

Typo on the forum.
I can load the child.swf see the image/text in the child displayed in the parent but as soon as I add as3 to the child page I receive the above mentioned error. If I run the child.swf from the IDE or by itself everything works fine .

I followed a tutorial on how to make an interactive photo gallery but for some reason the file isn't working. I am new to flash and no very little about action script.

Did your tutorial have you download XML from a server to feed the images to the gallery? Many people forget to check for errors loading the XML file or forget to "do something" once the XML is loaded. Common things not to look for are IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR or SecurotyErrorEvents warning you the XML you're trying to load is on a different domain (a webserver online) and it doesn't have permission (a crossdomain.xml).
In those situations it can appear like it's doing nothing.
Did you just take the code of the tutorial at the end and try to play it as you went through the tutorial? If you just copy and pasted it all you'lre going to have a hard time isolating the issue. In that case you can always re-do the tutorial until you start to see issues. Then you know where they are.

Lately I created a file .fla in the same root of the file .as naming it "sketch.fla"
When I try, in the Adobe Flash CS4 Professional screen, to assign to ".fla" in the properties Publish my action script, the following message appears:
“A definition for the document class could not be found in the classpath, so one will be automatically generated in tha SWF file upon export.”
Obviously, it doesn’t function

but i do understand that error message. you need to assign the document class for your fla. in the properties panel with the backstage selected, assign sketch in the class or document class field.

Adding Fields to New Hire SAP Script, Text ID PAMA

Hi there,
I have successfully created a sapscript email to be sent via Dynamic Actions for the notification of New Hires and Terminations. This has been accomplished via feature M0001 (we have created two new features u2013 M00NH & M00TM), dynamic action (T588z), Business Workplace, distribution lists, etc. All are working correctly, and an email is being generated and forwarded to appropriate parties.
Now we have been asked to add extra fields to the SAP Script text for New Hire and Termination. These are text fields for Employee Group, Employee Subgroup, among others.
Our syntax has been set up as follows:

For the New Hire action, we are getting the Employee group and Employee subgroup codes to display but we are NOT getting the Employee Group or Employee Subgroup texts to display. To confuse the issue, we ARE getting these text fields to display for the Termination script. Our ABAP'er is also having difficulty determining how to bring in these fields to the New Hire script.
We have researched this website have tried the instructions given by one user..... which states that we needed to go to our SAPscript text and make the following changes:
" To get other HR data into your standard text (from SO10):
Insert > Symbols > Program symbols (now you'll see a list of print programs, and i guess this is where the ABAP grabs the data).
Highlight the one for HR Master data, and click the DDIC button.
Double click the table you need data from (e.g P0000, P0001 or P0002).
Finally select the field you want."
I have done this, but when I get to the Program symbols, I do not see a print program for HR Master Data. I only see RPUCOB02 - Processing of Qualifying COBRA Events and Letters & SAPMSSCE - SAPscript Standard Text Maintenance.
I tried to use the RPUCOB02 and inserted the text for Employee Subgroup as a test. But it did not work as the text still did not display.
The other oddity is that for the Termination sapscript text, the Employee Group and Employee Subgroup text displays correctly. To test our syntax, we then connect the Termination sapscript text to the 'New Hire' action and reran the New Hire action. The Employee Group and Employee Subgroup text fields then disappeared. So it worked when the action was a termination, but did not work when the action was New Hire.
The difference between these two actions is that the feature for the sapscript generation for New Hires is being generated upon saving of I0002 (which is created AFTER I0001) - we needed the Employee's name in the text. For the Termination action, the feature is set to generate the mail upon saving of I0001. This is the only difference between the two. But as I need the employee name to display, it seemed the best approach. I did try to generate the New Hire sapscript after saving of I0008, but had the same problem.
Does anyone know how we can add text fields to our New Hire sapscript text and actually get them to display? We would also like to display the Org Unit text (&'ORGEH_2nd_TEXT(40)&) or even the Supervisor (from the OM relationship). But they do not display for the New Hire sapscript either. And our ABAP'er is able to insert the Supervisor logic, but the field still does not display.

Is Import to DRM by action script the only way to build hierarchies?

Hi,
If I am getting by source file as a big generation wise excel format and even properties in excel sheet with large number of custom property field values.
Is making a Import action script out of the excel to load to DRM is the only way, or do we hav any other option to load these hierechies to DRM from excel without going fpr manual efforts in making scripts one by one for large no of dimensions.

hi, the import functionality can build hierarchies. It has a draw back of only building NEW hierarchies. So if your source master hierarchy is external to DRM, action script or API is best way, if it is to be automated. If this is only be imported/updated once a month the import can be used to create the "new" version. You can use then blend update your old version.
