I am unable to run iTunes because I am missing MSVCR8080.dll.

After trying to install the latest version of iTunes, I am unable to open it.  I get the error message that I'm missing "MSVCR8080.dll", and that I should reinstall.  However, I can't find the file that I downloaded it from, and when I try to download it again, I can't/don't see the file.  (There's no dialogue about where the file should download to, for example.)  Please help!!!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Can't update itunes because of a missing msi file

I can't update iTunes because of a missing msi file? Any suggestions on how to correct this?

Yes it is looking for the iTunes64.msi file
    Many thanks.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Unable to install iTunes because of QuickTime

I have a Windows 7 computer system. iTunes worked fine until I tried to update to the newest version. In the process I was told that the installation couldn't finish because a newer version of Quicktime is installed. I can't uninstall Quicktime. When I try I am told that there is a newer version installed. I can't find the newer version to uninstall. I followed advice to completely uninstall iTunes and the other components. I did it in the order suggested. Now I can't reinstall iTunes because of the Quicktime issue above. I now can't update my iPhone or iPad. Can anyone help?

Hopefully this will help people out who have no luck manually removing Quicktime or using the Microsoft Cleanup Utility.
When you try to install Quicktime it references a REGISTRY key called HKEYCLASSESROOT\Installer\Products\5B09BD67-4C99-46A1-8161-B7208CE18121 WinXp or
    E7004147-2CCA-431C-AA05-2AB166B9785D Win 7.
This is where it reads what version you have currently installed. No where is there any reference to Quicktime in it. It took me a good 2 hours of hacking up and logging the install to get it to finally show me what it was trying to do. Delete these keys and search for any other. I can confirm that the key does exist on both Windows 7 and XP.
There is also a folder with the same name in C:\Windows\Installers\{5B09BD67-4C99-46A1-8161-B7208CE18121} or {E7004147-2CCA-431C-AA05-2AB166B9785D} that can be deleted.
After this you should have a smooth clean install of either Quicktime or Itunes

  • I am unable to use Itunes because it freezes when I plug my Iphone 3g in.

    Hi,
I needed a phone, so my brother gave me his old Iphone 3g. I instantly downloaded the latest itunes (10.5.3) and I purchased some songs and application at itunes store. Unfortunately when I plug my iphone in it freezes itunes and I can't put anything on the phone. My iphone has absolutely nothing on the phone, no songs, apps, contacts, nothing.
I have tried for about a week now. Looking at forums on the internet and downloading alternatives to itunes like media monkey and foobar and alot of other programs to be able to put music on my phone.I spoke to my brother and he had no troubles at all with the phone.
I have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP.
    PC/Laptop- HP Pavilion dv6-2109AX
    Windows 7
    Iphone 3g
    Software: 4.2.1
I have tried plugging the iphone in different ports. I heard you need to plug it into a 2.0 usb port, but I tried all of them. I don't know if my laptop has 2.0 usb ports because it still didn't work.
I tried reinstalling itunes the correct order multiple times but that didn't work.
I tried deleting the crash files that I didnt even have. I don't have the appdata file to delete its contents, if I do I couldn't find it.
I had to delete my virus software and disable it while I plugged my iphone in.I restarted my computer multiple times and restored my computer a few times and also deleted alot of useless files and movies to make my computer run faster.
As soon as I plug my iphone in, itunes instantly freezes. When unplugged itunes instantly unfreezes.
Also I have the original Iphone charger.
HELP! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
    Thanks in advance. (:

  • Unable to run iTunes based VBS files

I'm guessing this is something to do with Vista because it works fine on my laptop, but basically I'm trying to run a VBS script which clears out duplicates from iTunes. The VBS file runs fine on my laptop which is running XP, but doesn't run on my desktop running Vista x64 Ultimate (only doing so because it exceeds the max spec for XP Pro).
When I try and run the script I get the following:
    C:\Users\Enverex\Desktop>cscript RemoveDup_iTunesTracks.vbs
Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.7
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
    C:\Users\Enverex\Desktop\RemoveDup_iTunesTracks.vbs(32, 1) Microsoft VBScript
runtime error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'iTunes.Application'
(this forums lack of a "code" paste option is wrecking the output a little but you should get the idea).
I've tried reinstalling iTunes and I've tried installing the x86 version of iTunes, no change. It does this for any iTunes VBS script, not just this one (and as I said they work fine on my laptop). Tried using iTunes 7 instead which also had no effect. The "register the vbs dll file" also has no effect (also that's only a fix for the issue of iTunes not installing in the first place). User is admin and can do anything else on the machine, it's just VBS files for iTunes that don't work.
So any ideas? I really need to be able to sort this out because I can't sync my iPod till It's done :/

Tried the registering thing ages ago, it claims to have registered fine but no change.
I tried the scripts on that site but only the VBS ones (as it's VBS I'm having an issue with). I just tried his EXE version, ran the program and it gave me a list of all his scripts, I tried 2 different ones, they opened a command prompt window (with nothing written in them) and then disappeared after about 2 seconds silently.
I assume I have VBS installed, I thought it was a prerequisite to install iTunes but I'm not sure what else to try, as you mentioned it only seems to be for 2k, XP and 2k3.

  • Unable to run iTunes

Had problems since downloading latest version of iTunes. Resulting in iPod Classic not being recognised. Attempted to reinstall earlier version and have since attempted to reload latest version. Result is that my Classic has all of my music every time I attempt to open iTunes I get the following message - The file "iTunes Library.it" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
Stalemate I can't edit/transfer any of music - can anyone help?

If you're comfortable with being at version 8.x, under these circumstances I'd try the instructions from the following document (skipping the "reinstall iTunes" step):
[No content shows up in iTunes after updating|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967]
(The "Previous libraries" file created on the day you tried the update to a version 9.x should be in a format readable by your current 8.x version.)

  • Unable to reinstall iTunes because of Apple Mobile Device, please help :(

About two days ago I got the latest iTunes update and when I tried to update, my iTunes stopped working and the error was something about Apple Mobile Device. Since then I've been fighting with this issue, I have uninstalled and installed iTunes (and everything related to Apple), I've restored my computer over and over again. Nothing I do ever seems to work. I am going just crazy without my iTunes!
I'd be so thankful if someone can help me!

"A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed"
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Unable to Open Itunes because of a corrupt or unreadable file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times on this computer and every time I try to open it I get an error message reading "The itunes applications could not be opened. The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable". At the same time in the bottom right corner of my computer a box appears saying that the itunes.exe file is corrupt. I don't know what to do if uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work. Any help is appreciated.

We'll first try running a disk check over the C drive (or whichever drive you have your iTunes program files installed on). There's Vista instructions in the following document.
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. You'll probably need to schedule the scan to run on restart. The disk check should take quite a while to run. If it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, are you able to reinstall iTunes now?

How do I get around this?
