This is my favorite FAQ. ;-)
Generally speaking, to start two OC4Js you have to make sure that they don't listen on the same ports. The easiest way is to copy the home directory to another one, (eg. home2) and change the ports in home2/config/*.xml.
With OC4J 10.1.3.x you can use the Application Server Console to change the number of JVMs to more than one and you're done.

Unable to start two httpd daemons for 2.2.13 version
Hi All,
I tried to add copy /etc/httpd2.2.13 to /etc/httpd2.2.13_2. The I changed the pidfile and LockFile also in conf/extra/httpd-mpm.conf, but when i start httpd both the the pid file is getting created in both logs of etc/httpd2.2.13 to /etc/httpd2.2.13_2. I am not sure how this is happening. Please suggest me to start two httpd in one machine at the same time.
Regards
SundiLook at the '-d' option of httpd. You'll then have to copy some files and directories since you don't want the server to share, for example, the same configuration and log files.
Depending on how you create the new directory hierarchy, you might also have to set the PidFile and LockFile directive, etc.
And please follow the forum etiquette next time... -
Can I start the OC4J not only from the command line but also when the Apache starts?
I think when I close the command line window (WINDOWS) the OC4J stops running. Is it true?
Thanks.Hi Manolis,
On my PC -- running Windows2000 -- I can use the "start" command to start
OC4J as a "background" process, i.e. it continues to run even after I
close the DOS prompt window I used to type in the "start" command.
Simply type "start" before your normal OC4J command, e.g.
start java -jar oc4j.jar
My version of OC4J is 1.0.2.2.1
I think there was also a discussion on this forum about setting up OC4J
as a "service" on Windows. Perhaps you could try searching the forum
archives for this discussion?
Hope this has helped you.
Good Luck,
Avi. -

Unable to start Managed server from admin console using nodemanager
I changed the ip address and hostname of the server on which Weblogic Server 10.3.5 is running. After that I am unable to start the managed servers using Admin console. Is there any changes in the nodemanager configuration files which need to be done to start the managed servers from admin console.
Hi there,
Can you check the following configuration in Weblogic admin console ?
1- Check which listen address mentioned under the Machine configuration ( Environment > Machines > select appropriate nodemanager machine >Configuration > Node Manager ). If it is pointing to old host name, change it to new one.
2- Once you done with Step 1. Check whether the machine is reachable or not. ( Machine > [Your Machine] > Monitoring > status.
3- If still isuse persists.. Check the managed server startup log files ( for eg:- managedserver1.out under the path $DOMAIN_HOME\Servers\managedserver1\logs directory.
Thanks

Note: if i start the manged servers through WLST script its working fine.
[twpuser@ukirt156 /appl/weblogic/scripts]$ java weblogic.WLST
nmConnect('weblogic', 'w3bl0g1c', 'ukirt156', '5556', 'twp_domain', '/appl/weblogic/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/twp_domain', 'plain')
nmStart('twpserver1')
Please provide the solution, how to solve this issue.
Thanks
SRKJust at first glance, it seems as though you have one or more configuration issues, perhaps inconsistencies between the node manager server configuration files and the domain's config.xml
nmConnect('weblogic', 'w3bl0g1c', 'ukirt156', '5556', 'twp_domain', '/appl/weblogic/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains/twp_domain', 'plain')
nmStart('twpserver1')
implies that tmp_domain is configured in /appl/weblogic/oracle/middleware/user_projects/domains, (which is the default from the configuration wizard). However, the node manager and server output logs make it seem like it's trying to use a domain in the directory /appl/weblogic/scripts. Not sure how that happened, perhaps you had two domains? Perhaps copied or moved the domain files? Something else?
In any case, start by checking out your nodemanager.domains file and ensure that it reflects your intended domain directory. -
I have been using Safari for years and have always kept it on "private." Starting two days ago, I suddenly found myself unable to log onto my blog and many other sites that I normally log onto when private is set. This so annoying, I just switched to Firefox. I don't like Firefox nearly as much as I like Safari. What is happening? How do I fix the problem?
Thank you.Might be a corrupted database ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test. -
I want to deploy MapViewer on Standalone OC4J.
I have installed OC4J successfully on my m/c.
But I am unable to start it. It gives me the below error:

I know that java sometimes has trouble handling directory names with spaces in them. Perhaps you could install "MapViewer" in a directory other than:

Can you find any further details about the error in the logs?
Please see if (Note: 430680.1 - When Starting an OC4J Instance Receive Error 'Unable To Bind Socket: Address Already In Use' Error) helps.

Unable to start OC4J & HTTP Server
Hi All,
I am installing Oracle 10g Application Server Release 3(10.1.3) on IBM AIX 5.3L ML 04 operating system by remote desktop using "Xmanager" software for GUI.
I choose advanced installation type "Integrated Web Server, J2EE Server and Process Management". Everything went smoothly, till The Configuration Assistants. The OPMN configuration Assistant failed.
I went ahead with completion of the installation. Later I tried

Unable to start OC4J standalone server.
Hi
I have just started using Oracle 10g Portal Server. I have downladed the OC4J standalone and have installed at D:\JDeveloper\oc4j following the instructions of running the admin.jar creating the password. When I try starting the OC4J initializing it works fine starts the server with the message
05/12/29 12:21:11 Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.0.0) - Developer Preview 4 initialized
But when I try to deploy a war file which I have created externally with the entries in aplication.xml
<web-module id="mywar" path="../applications/mywar.war" />
and default-web-site.xml
<web-app application="default" name="mywar" root="/technology/mywar" />
The server never starts up just hangs up with the message
Starting OC4J from D:\JDeveloper\oc4j\j2ee\home ...
If the entries are removed the server starts as usual.
Can anyone let me know where is the problem I need to look at, because the war file works fine if deployed in tomcat or weblogic.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
As you asked me it is a simple war deployment. with the folder structure as
simpleWar->index.jsp
simpleWar->META-INF->application.xml
simpleWar->WEB-INF->classes
simpleWar->WEB-INF->lib
simpleWar->WEB-INF->tld
simpleWar->WEB-INF->struts-config.xml
simpleWar->WEB-INF->validation.xml
simpleWar->WEB-INF->validator-rules.xml
simpleWar->WEB-INF->web.xml
and the war file that I am creating is simpleWar.war.

Unable to start OC4J with JDeveloper 903
Hello,
I got the following error message when I try to start the oc4j shipped with jdev903. Could anyone please let me know why I am getting the error message below, and how to fix it:
Java path is poiting to e:\jdk1.3.1_07
OS : windows /2000
E:\JDeveloper\j2ee\home>java -jar oc4j.jar
# HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, Internal Error
# Please report this error at

# Problematic Thread: prio=5 tid=0x234a10 nid=0x9a0 runnable
Do I need to report this error to Sun or Oracle?
How do I fix this error?
Thanks.
ATNThis one should go to Sun.
Try OC4J with the VM installed with JDeveloper. Also, you might want to try 1.3.1_02 (just to see if that works on your machine)

Unable to start Oracle Application Server processes
I am having the same problem that a number of people have
mentioned concerning ORA-20214 Unable to start OAS processes ...
The problem seems related to Windows NT 4.0 SP4. One developer
mentioned a specific Oracle Bug #768386 that had something to do
with the yt40.dll. Does anyone know how I can get this patch?
Has anyone gotten OAS to work on SP4 without this patch? Thanks
for any assistance you can provide.
nullDear James, Anirudh,
Right now I have installed this two syned version.
Oracle Application Server SOA suite 10.1.3.1.0
JDev 10.1.3.1.0
Problem is, I have deployed complete Application server, But I am receiving the following errors.
*No OC4J process up for AS instance identified by domain:
opmn-orabpel+oc4j-anne-8888-default*
1. Actually i gave instance name as --> orabpel
username as --> oc4jadmin
password --> welcome1
But when I trying to connect server with mentioned instance name, I am not able to connect. Is there any specification to set instance name in SOA suite 10.1.3.1.0. Also please suggest how to start my Application server.
2. My doubt is while creating Application server connection from JDEV what we have to select
1. Standalone OC4J 10g 10.1.3
2. Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3
3. From the beginning itself my application server status was down. I cant able to understand the under laying issues.
Please suggest me..
Thanks,
Rajesh -

I have created two different domains for OIM and OAM PS1, trying to integrate them. After removing IAMSUITEAGENT, have installed a Oracle WEBGATE ( accessgate).
Webgate and OHS are in same LINUX BOX( hostname : POC) ... But when i start OHS following error is diplayed.
Message from syslogd@ at Sun Aug 25 17:21:44 2013 ...
POC Oblix: 2013/08/25@21:21:44.24670 11693 11703 ACCESS_GATE FATAL 0x00001520 /ade/aime_ngamac_279059/ngamac/src/palantir/webgate2/src/apache2entry_web_gate.cpp:597 "Exception thrown during WebGate initialization"

Even I tried for telnet... hostname: POC.COM ( IP is 172.16.30.188)
Result:
telnet POC.COM
Trying 172.16.30.188...
telnet: connect to address 172.16.30.188: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused....
Any resolution or anything missing in installation or configuration????yes .. I found 3 different access gate folders in OUTPUT folder....
Now copied ObAccessClient.xml and cwallet.sso from appropriate access gate folder to OHS instance config folder
Restarted OHS
but still it shows ....
