Actually, none of the options will do what you are looking for it to do. That is because, this application only monitors the traffic from the device it is hosted on. That would also mean that you would have to run a copy on each computer that will access the Internet on your network; note their individual usages, and then, combine them to get an idea of the total usage.
However, if you are only interested in the amount of Wi-Fi traffic that only your computer is seeing, then the "AirPort Network Card" option would be the correct choice.

You want to see a green light on the Time Capsule.
Once you have set up the Time Capsule initially, a flashing amber light indicates that the Time Capsule has a message for you....possibly about a network condition or notice of an update that is available.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the amber dot and another window will appear to provide the current status....along with suggested actions to remedy the flashing amber light.

Airport Time capsule behind cisco router download speed

My airport time capsule is connected to the internet in bridge mode via a cisco router.
The cisco router provides a 99Mbps download speed. However, when I " bridge" my time capsule in between (wired) the speed slows down to 9 Mbps.
I have already tried to assign a static DHCP IP to my time capsules MAC address and disabled DMZ for that specific IP address, but am failing to get the speed up to par.
Any suggestions?

I have used Time capsule 1.5 year behind a copperjet modem on ADSL, no problems.
Changed provider and am connected by cable with new cisco modem including router.
So the set up looks like:
internet>cisco modem/router>airport time capsule>macbook pro
The cisco modem without airport time capsule is working ok: when logged in speed is 99 Mbps as it should be (wired and wireless)
Connecting cisco router with UTP cable to time capsule and time capsule with UTP to macbook slows down speed to 9 Mbps
(time capsule in bridgemode)
Specs:
Macbook pro OSX yosemite
Airport Time capsule 2TB 2013 (v 7.7.3)
Cisco modem/router:EPC3928

Airport Time Capsule Problems Since Snow Leopard - Loses Connections

I did a straightforward install of Snow Leopard on the iMac 24 and it went fine. I have very few apps on it so nothing weird running to cause two issues:
1 - Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule have become slow and unreliable. Also, even 10-100 MB file transfers to a MacBook Pro 17", also on Snow Leopard, took the longest time.
2 - The Airport/WiFi icon will often go from being a static icon with full signal to one in which each curved concentric level bar flashes one by one up from the bottom dot to the topmost arc, and then back down, and back and forth. This often happens in the middle of Time Capsule backups. Holding down the mouse on the icon shows my network still connected, but the backup fails, and any web page attempted will also report there is no network.
I wonder if others have had similar problem(s).

I am also having very strange problems with 10.6.1 and TC. The network disconnects for no apparent reason, frequently. It seems to be tying up both of the phone lines too, because once the TC reconnects to the network, the telephone no longer works (it says "line busy" and remains that way until and unless I unplug the TC). Plugging directly into the cable modem works fine, no problems at all with the telephones or with the network disconnecting at random. All three macs on my home network (macbook, MBPro and iMac) are updated to 10.6.1. At first I thought the problem might have been the modem itself but it works fine; it's only when the TC is connected that the weirdness happens.

Reduce Airport Time Capsule Backup

I use my input Time Capsule As my storage device and my backup device. I wanted to put files into my airport time capsule disc. But my Mac's backup sparse bundle file was too big and it does not have enough space for it. Can anyone tell me how to reduce the size of this sparse bundle file? So I can put other files into my airport time Capsule disk. Thanks

There are two ways to do this, one much better than the other.
If you are using Time Machine for backups, you will have to start manually deleting the oldest backups from the Time Machine "Star Wars" interface to try to create more room. This will take an incredibly long time, and you probably will not gain much space. So, this is not recommended.
Your best bet is to delete the sparsebundle file completely and then start a new backup set again. Do this only if you really do not need all the backups from weeks, months and maybe years back and you don't mind starting over again with Time Machine backups.

I just moved and wireless internet is now provided for me. I am not using my Time Capsule as a router anymore but can I still use it as my storage device wirelessly? So far I cannot get it to work. Please help.

I just moved to a new place. I used to have my own internet setup and used my Airport Time Capsule as my router. Now that I don't need to use it as a router I would still like to use it as a storage device for my pictures. Can I still do that wirelessly or do I have to plug it into my computer? And if I do (which would really be crumby) do I just use a USB cable?
Please help. I have a lot of work stored on it and I am feeling pretty stuck at the moment.

You can use your Time Capsule in your new network in a number of ways. One would be as a NAS device which I believe you are looking to do.
To do so, you would connect the TC to the new router by Ethernet. You would also want to reconfigure the TC as a bridge and disable its wireless radios.
You can do both of these using the AirPort Utility, as follows:
Run the AirPort Utility.
Select the TC, and then, select Edit.
Select the Network tab.
Change Router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode)
Select the Wireless tab.
Change Network Mode to: Off
Select Update and allow the TC to restart.

I get an error message when trying to install my Airport Time Capsule

I have Bell Fibe and I connected the Airport Time Capsule to my router. My Mac was able to recognize that I had an Airport device connected and during the process of installing it for the first time I kept on getting errors.. I don't know why? I also shut off my Anti-Virus in the event that it was blocking it somehow but that did not work. I also installed the Airport via enthernet cable directly to my MAC to see if I could install in without the wireless feature and same thing. No luck. What am I missing? Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Is this a new Time Capsule, or a previous model?
Have you verified that you have a good, working Ethernet cable to connect the Time Capsule to the Bell router?
The Ethernet cable must connect from a LAN <--> port on the Bell router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
What operating system are you using on your Mac? If you are not sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.
Anti-virus is not needed on a Mac. You should plan to keep the anti-virus program turned off if you intend to use the Time Capsule to back up your Mac using Time Machine.

IMac vs. AirPort Time Capsule.

On my iMac running on 10.6.8, when I go into AirPort Utility.app, I get a message saying that I have to update my AirPort, and it gives me that address to get the update: http://www.apple.com/support/airport/
However, I can't seem to get the update...
I find this very confusing.
Can someone help me please? I keep having AirPort Time Capsule problems (it says that my printer isn't connected when it is IN FACT connected, it gives the same IP address to my iMac and MacBook Pro, etc.).

Did you buy a new AC model TC?
If so you are in trouble. You cannot (at least easily) configure it using the 5.6 utility in Snow Leopard. Nor can you upgrade to later version of the airport utillity without upgrading the OS.
So I would try simply ignoring the problems.. apparently the 5.6 utility will in fact work.. it is just that it shouldn't. You might need to turn on ipv6 to local link for the wireless or ethernet connection you are using.. strongly recommend ethernet.
Or if you have any iOS products with latest version OS you can download the airport utility for iOS.

There is no end of answers to this..
But if you want AC wireless.. assuming you bought a new TC.. and the Extreme is the older N model.. then simply make sure the TC is as close as possible to where wireless AC client will be used.. and connect it back to the main router whichever that is, by ethernet.
If both are AC then it will make no difference.
As long as you can connect them both by ethernet and not use wireless extend.. it won't make much difference.
The worst case is where you use wireless extend and expect high speed but totally lose it because of your bridge link.. if that is the case you wasted your money and you can return the TC and buy a hard disk and plug it into the AE.

Ok so i am planning on getting the AirPort + Time Capsule in a few weeks, and i have seen many peole talk about how there is a right way and wrong way to set it up because apperently the bad way makes it run slow? Well i have two questions, one is how do i set it up the right way to use it to the full potential to use the new beamforming feature? And my second question which is kind of a problem is that I have internet already but my other brothers use it and i told them about pitching in buy it and they dont want to because they think its pointlesss, so what i want to know is if I can connect it to my existing wi-fi but at the same time like create a diffrent network so that only i can use it? (ex. have my wifi, 2WIRE123 for example, and then some how connect the ethernet cable to the airport + time caplsule and create a new network like 2WIRE124 so they would both basiaclly be using the same internet connection but separated to 2 diffrent networks?) If you can connect the AirPort to the 2Wire router using a permanent wired Ethernet connection, then you can configure the AirPort to create a new wireless network with its own wireless network name and password.

I read of all the things that go wrong restoring Time Machine backups.. particularly stupid things like mail, photo libraries don't go back.. etc. And looking through the incredible number of issues people have here, when their Mac finally takes a dive how hard it is to restore.
I restored a test hard disk from a TC.. and it takes ages and ages to even make up its mind to start.
I worked in computer support for ages, but not Macs.. so my experience is ghost.. ghost images.. on large commercial server setups, can stream restore to multiple computers at once.. even doing it computer by computer the image is simple as network boot to restore. But ghost went the way of Symantec.. sigh!! And was destroyed.

Can backup a Hard disk in just about any format.. yet to try it on a Mac to a TC.. but I will. Boot from CD.. instead of your lost Lion partition which no longer exists (because the hard drive had to be replaced) and the DVD they no longer give you, and restore the entire hard disk in a couple of hours .. to the exact image at the point you made the clone.. in any format, with any partitions.
My bet is that it will kill TM .. but you could be right.
It is just the prospect of all those permission changes, photos and mail libraries etc that worry me.

I've recently bought a 3TB Airport Time Capsule, with the sole intention of being able to perform wireless backups.
Is it possible to perform these wireless backups without being connected by ethernet to my modem/existing router? I don't want to use the time capsule as a replacement for my existing router (at this stage) - just for wireless backups of my Macs.
If this is not possible, or practicable, are there other alternatives that I should explore? (non-cloud)

I'm in a rental property with a woefully inadequate number of plugs in practical places. In addition there is only one phone socket. The result being insufficient safe space to have the existing router, and the Airport TC along with the existing electrical items.

Unfortunately, Apple designed the Time Capsule to connect to a modem or modem/router using an Ethernet connection.
If you do this, you do have the option of turning off the wireless on the Time Capsule and using your existing wireless for backups. Backups will be automatic this way, in the background. The Time Capsule could be located anywhere an Ethernet cable will reach.....up to 300+ feet or about 100 meters.
The other option.....not recommended and not convenient at all.....is to set up the Time Capsule......without an Ethernet connection and then have the Time Capsule provide a wireless network that would not have Internet access.
So, when you wanted to back up, you would have to manually "switch" to the Time Capsule network for that process, then once the backup was done, manually "switch" back again to your normal wireless network for normal operations. A real mess, not to mention the possibility of wireless interference between the networks that may create other issues.

Using airport time capsule to create an internet connected network from pre existing wifi network

i bought an airport time capsule for college. I bought it to create a network for my dorm room so that I could take the pre existing wifi from the school and make my own mini network that I can hook my other stuff up to. Problem is that I don't have an ethernet hook up in my room so the network would have to be created from a wifi network rather that a ethernet hook up. Is this still possible? Alternate suggestions? I am afraid of either the college network blocking users from communication with other devices via the wifi, or the fact that my printer would be on a huge network for all to screw with.

NO, it won't work. Apple only works with apple.

I am sure your college has rules about not running your own wifi networks.. but anyway.. that is up to you.. the Apple TC cannot turn off 2.4ghz which would be handy.. so the only way to do this following the rules is ethernet. You can run a full network standalone on ethernet. And still use wireless for internet.
If you want to use wireless standalone this is also possible but you need to connect a second wifi USB dongle your Mac so you can have two networks at once.. You can use an express to connect to the college wireless and bridge that to the TC by ethernet.. then use the TC to create your own network.. since you cannot turn off 2.4ghz I guess how long the College IT people take to track you down should be hours. If you could just use 5ghz it would probably be ok.

The Time Capsule is by default a network hard drive, but it has no "brains" of it's own. So, it cannot function as a stand alone media server if that is what you are asking.
If you are also using the Time Capsule hard drive for Time Machine backups of your Mac(s), then there may be struggle for available space on the drive since it is not possible to partition the Time Capsule drive in a traditional manner.
If space is getting tight on the Time Capsule, it might be a good idea to connect a drive to the USB port on the Time Capsule and use that drive for your network storage needs.

I overcame the permissions by allowing both paths to have read and write access to anyone but that didnt solve it until I copied it into the DATA directory which I created on the Airport Time Capsule.
I had already discovered the TIME MACHINE How to transfer backups but I am struggling still with the item and cannot currently get it to work. My setup seems to have created a wireless link to my router which is what I wanted and in that set up there are three options. I have simply gone for the extension of my network. I ignored the other option there which I cannot remember something like DNS? That may be the problem becasuse when I remove the Ethernet connector it just doesnt go anywhere.
I have also found I cannot update my TIME MACHINE software (currently 1.3) as although Apple tell me I should be able to set backups hourly daily or weekly I have only ever been able to run it hourly when i would prefer longer intervals so thought an update might be necssary.
Also tried to get an update for my Airport Utility (Currently 6.3.2 but cannot find one even though I have read there might be one available and again this might be the problem.
Have reset the Time Capsule now about a dozen times.
Following the instructions and trying to copy my existing backup it suggests you need to copy it to the root directory but that is when I get some sort of security issue and I found I could only get it to accept if I dragged my .backupdb to the DATA directory on the Time Capsule. I dont even know if I do this it will work when I come to use it.
I therefore found your reply of no more help than i had discovered but I hope you return to read this note because I really do need some help.
I am intending starting again in the next couple of days and fully documenting what I do and what I see and then as I suspect it will be no different and I will then seek an appointment at the Apple Store in Trafford Centre and if that proves unsuccessful then I still have time to return and become a dissatisfied customer with Apple for the first time in a long experience with Apple. I have noticed frightening notes on the conversations which point to problems of Mavericks working with Airport Time Machine!! So in the end it might not be me doing anything wrong.
