It is no longer needed. Simply download and install the latest version of iTunes (currently at 10.6) from Apple's website. It includes all the necessary software and files for your iPod to communicate with your PC and iTunes properly.

If the thief enabled activation lock on the device, then there is nothing that can be done. Only the password for the Apple ID that it is locked with can disable activation lock.

Same exact thing happened to me, I restarted my
Phone and it didn't work, I took my girlfriends earing and took out the SIM card slot and put it back in, and wham it worked. Hope this helps

Do other devices successfully connect to the router?
Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks/routers?
Does the iPod show wifi bands in the upper left?
Try:
- Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Powering off and then back on the router
- Resetting networksettings: Settings>General>Reset>Reet Network Setting

When I plug into I-tunes to sync, it says some of my items I have used in the past can not be found.

Where did you get the ringtone from? Can you see it in itunes on your computer in the library under tones?

I signed into iCloud with an email account that I don't have now and can't remember my password changed it with apple but forgot about iCloud aim changing my phone over to virgin but can't back up my stuff. Is their anyway I can change iCloud email at all

The problem is i am changing my phone to another provider but need to back up my stuff. Is their anyway I can change the email address? Is your phone signed into an old iCloud ID ("email address") and you need to change it to your current ID? Is so, there is a way around this.
Otherwise, you can either try resetting your password at https://iforgot.apple.com or by contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Products and Services>Apple ID>Other Apple ID Topics>Lost or forgotten Apple ID password, or you can back up your phone to your computer instead. To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Then go to File>Devices>Back Up.
