I can connect to a network but I can't connect to internet...

Hi! I have a rarely problem:
When I try to connect to a wireless network I can and it shows that I have a high signal on the menu But I can't connect to the internet or it runs very slow... The macbook says that I'm connectet to the internet :S. I try to connect from windows XP with bootcamp at the same network and it runs very fast... What's the problem?? Thanks!
Sergi

Yes, this is possible ... but understand that you would need two switch wireless networks between network/Internet access and for printing.
The AirPort would not get a Public IP address, but it would have a Private IP address of 10.0.1.1 ... and it would be providing wireless clients connected to it with Private IP addresses in the 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200 range.
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name: <enter a desired Network Name or SSID>
Radio Mode: <leave the default or select a desired radio mode>
Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: <select the desired wireless security type>
Internet > Internet Connection
Connect Using: Ethernet
Connection Sharing: Distribute a range of IP addresses
Internet > TCP/IP
Configure IPv4: Manually
IP Address: 10.0.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: 10.0.1.1
DNS Server(s): <leave blank>
Domain Name: <leave blank>
Internet > DHCP
DHCP Beginning Address: <leave default or change to a desired starting address>
DHCP Ending Address: <leave default or change to a desired ending address>
Advanced > Logging & Statistics
Allow SNMP (unchecked)
The AirPort will still report at least three errors: 1) Configuration of WAN, 2) SNMP over WAN, and 3) Double NAT. These can all be safely ignored to stop the AirPort's status light from flashing amber in this configuration.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

  • Just got new ipad2 and can't connect to internet...recognizes wifi network but won't connect

just got a new ipad2...recognizes wifi network at home, but can't connect to internet...help???

I just had a similar problem.  Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it.  if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on.  i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2.  The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router.  I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it.  BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with.

Well, you could install the drivers to the wireless printer in you other computers.

  • My macbook pro can see my home wi-fi network but cannot connect to it.  My iphone and ipad are connected to my home wi-fi so the problem is not the modem.

Wow, I tried to submit this as a problem and the computer lost the wifi connection again, so i lost the whole explanation i typed up.
I've turned off computer and modem multiple times.
When I tried to run the network diagnostic, the macbook pro gave me a "perhaps you are out of range error".  I am sitting next to the modem.
My iphone and ipad are wonderfully connected to the home wifi network, so it cannot be the modem/router, correct?
If I am on the same floor as the router/modem then the macbook pro can see my home network but after tyoing in my password and trying to connect i get a "timed out" message.
If I move down one floor, then the macbook can see and connect to the wifi.  I only have one modem on one floor.
Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run to see why this particular device (macbook pro) is behaving ths way?  It just seems weird because the computer could connect to the wifi network yesterday while i was sitting next to the router.

    SOLUTION!
I've been suffering from this problem for a few months.  I tried everything suggested by everyone, and then, today, I had a mad idea.
I used to work in a room in the house that's about 12 metres away from the router. It's on the next storey up and horizontally about 8 metres away.  The problem started when I began to work in the same room as the router.
Today I became so frustrated that for some reason I walked into a room about 8 metres away on the same level - Guess what?  I connected with no problem at all. Feeling full of joy I walked back to the room where the router is located - Dropped internet connection within a few minutes!  Walked back to the the room that's 8 metres away and, hey presto! I have a connection. I now realise that the problem was that I moved too close to the router.
I can think of no logical explanation for my experience, but empirically it seems to work.  Does anyone have the faintest idea of why this should be the case?  In the absence of an answer I think I may have to start believing in fairies at the bottom of the garden - I'm just off to set a meal for them.
By the way, I don't know if it has any significance, but the router is a BT Infinity router that has replaced the incredibly unreliable Virgin Media cable connection

  • In hotel w/wireless network.  ATV finds network, but does not ask me for password, so can't communicate through network.  MacBook Air, iPad and 2 iPhones connected to hotel wireless, but ATV does not ask me for the password.  Any ideas?

I have succesfully connected a MacBook Air, an iPad and two iPhones to the wireless network in this hotel.  Apple TV can see the network and "connects" to the network, but w/o asking for password.  I expected to see a screen immediately after selecting the network that asked me for the password as did all of my other devices.  ATV did not ask me for a password.  When I go to Settings>General>Network, it shows the name of the hotel wireless network, but I can't communicate with the network.  It can't set date and time.  When I try to enter my Apple account name and password, it tells me it can't log in w/o setting date and time.
Any ideas on how to connect to this network?

I am having the same problem. In my hotel when I connect my laptop a screen will pop up and you have to hit the button "I Accept Terms". However I can't do that with the ATV. I called the internet provider and they said they could not help me. Any ideas? Do you think the guy just doesn't know what he can do for me? I am thinking I will call later and hope to get a different technician who might know how to help connect me.

  • Can connect to wireless network but no internet?

Ok, I'm sure this is answered somewhere, but I'm tired.
At this point I'm not even sure if it can be done. But... I tried to connect to my mother's wireless internet using my Airport Extreme. I connected to the wireless but was unable to access the internet, or email. I tried manually setting the IP address, DHCP, router, DNS etc. But to no avail. It kept saying "Airport is connected to wireless ..., but it has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet". I got it to accept the new IP address and finally it said " Airport is connected to wireless..., and is connected to the internet" but I still could not get on. It does say on her computer that it is protected by a key. But I used her password to get on and it recognized it? But her password was not the key.
I thought that I could connect to any wireless network with the password?
    Can this even be done?
    Thanks
    A

    Duane,
Thanks for the response. I did not see anything about MAC filtering enabled. It did say encryption was enabled. All I foud was the IP address, router, DNS etc. It is a WEP password and it did accept the password to log on to the network. It's Time Warner and she has a PC. I tried everything, set up new location. I'm going to try to log on to my friends wireless network and see if I can do so there. If my memory serves me right, the last time I tried to log on to a wireless network it didn't work either. Also my mother does not know much about it, someone set it up for her and she is one to not understand these "new fangled things". So...

  • Can connect to wireless network but no internet access

I have a PC that runs on Windows Vista and a wireless network using Airport Extreme. My PC can connect to the wireless network but I cannot access the internet. Windows Network Diagnostics states that 'A problem with your network router or broadband modem might be preventing an internet connection'. There should be no problem with my modem as I can access internet using my powerbook. When I run airport utility on my PC, there is an error message that states that 'An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again', 'error -6753'.

I am glad you brought this up. I am having the same difficulty. I run an iMac OS X 10.5.6 with an intel processor and a parallel system to get me on the Windows side. When I try to access the internet using my Airport extreme I cannot access any sites and the internet explorer page pops up with "The page cannot be displayed and sends me to try the diagnose connection problems on the toolbar method. However I can see my base station and all looks fine with the information there. I can also access the internet from my mac side of the computer. It would be nice to use the Windows side to gain access to the net because I have programs for the windows side that need updating. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

  • Networks will "connect" over Wifi, but DNS resolution is impossible and I can't access the internet.

My OSX 10.7.5 iMac (late 2011) will connect to my university's wireless network and thinks it's connected to the internet, but cannot resolve any DNS - and cannot actually access the internet on any browser or internet-utilising app. My university has 2 networks, a regular wifi one and an eduroam one. I have the same problem on both networks. My MacBook, running Snow Leopard, and my iPad (latest software) both connect to both networks just fine.
Because it's my university's network, i can't reset my router or anything like that. I'm in halls. I don't think it's a network issue, because all my other devices are fine.
I've searched high and low on these forums but haven't found anyone having exactly the same problem as me - I've heard of odd few minutes of people losing their connections in this manner, but my computer's been down now for hours and nothing. I've restarted it many times, even once in "Recovery Mode" and I'm getting nothing. I've followed instructions to flush my DNS cache, renew DHCP leases, I've tried manually inputting various DNSes I've found (eg the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 google ones), none of which have worked.
Using terminal, I can't ping either an http:// domain, or an IP address. Both get "timed out" as a response. I can't access the internet on any browser (chrome, safari, firefox), my google mail notifier, Skype, or my twitter app. Or anything else.
I'm relatively computer literate, but I'm not particularly code-savvy, so I'd really appreciate it if I could get some step-by step help on here, bearing in mind what I've already tried. I'm really worried, because it all seems to have happened completely out of the blue. Last time I updated was some time a couple weeks ago; I update whenever my software update beeps at me.
    Thanks.

  • Airport card can see networks but can't connect all of a sudden

I have an older MacBook running 10.6.8 (snow leopard) and it's been working fine. All of a sudden, it can see networks, but cannot connect. I get an alert with an exclamation point and "no Internet connection". My iPad can connect just fine; same network, same location as usual, so I know it's not an issue with the network/router (my husband's computer works fine as well). If my airport card went, I wouldn't be able to see any networks at all, right?  Is there anything I can do?  My AppleCare has run out, due to the age of my computer and I don't want to put hundreds into fixing it, either (nor can I afford it). Has anyone had this happen?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

  • Can connect to network but not internet

In trying to secure my wireless network, I connect to my network, but I am unable to get to the internet with the wireless security enabled. I have no problems connecting over the wireless when I disable the security.
I have a linksys broadband router.
I use a Mac book with intel chip that I am trying to connect wirelessly. I also have an older imac that is connected directly to the router that I was trying to share files.
I was trying to setup WEP- I know very little about network protection. I have had a router for a couple of years and when I was trying to set it up so I could share iles I realized it was not protected. At the linksys website I had several options, but experienced the same problem (I had a strong network connection, but unable to connect to the internet) no matter which encryption option I chose.
The error meeaage says that is unable to connect
    Thanks

    Hi.
I assume that you have a linksys router plugged into an airport express.
First off, seeing as you have a macbook you should use WPA2 instead of WEP as it is more secure. You can select this option in the airport admin utility on the main page. Make up a password enter it and click apply. The express will update. Then, when you select your network from the airport icon on the top of your screen it will prompt you to choose the type of security on the network (which will be WPA2 and after selecting this it will then propmt you to enter the password. Enter the password again (checking the keychain box as well) and this should be it.

  • Can connect to network but not internet. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

I have a Thinkpad T-60p and have encountered a serious problem; I am unable to connect to the internet. The Thinkpad will recognize and connect to wireless networks but when I go to actually open a webpage it does not open. I spent hours troubleshooting the problem to no avail. My other laptop connects to the internet fine, so I do not think it is an issue with my router or modem. I also went to my neighbors and I was unable to connect to the internet even though I could connect to his network; once again my second computer does not have a problem. I tried what I could in the Thinkvantage wireless software but I am not that familiar with it. When I use the test connection option it just reads, “unable to connect to internet” but I have a strong signal to my network. I then tried a wired connection directly to my cable modem and my neighbors; once again it showed that I have a connection, but still will not connect to the internet. I tried disabling my Firewall and Virus software and still could not connect. I have shutdown, unplugged and reset everything. I still receive the same results. I am not sure what has happened, I have not installed any new software or hardware recently. The computer has been working great up until this morning. I ran my virus software and a free online scan as well, nothing had been detected. I called tech support and they said it was a software issue to either pay $100 for help or post in the forum. The only other option I can think of is a complete systems restore, which I am trying to avoid. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Please Help,
    P.

I will try that when I get home from work, thank you for the advice. However,I did notice that when it attempts to connect it shows the IP Address in the IE window bottom left corner. In the past it would always read connecting to "website name" but since the problem started it shows the IP address instead of the actual name.

  • Can connect to network, but not to internet

I have a wireless network set up with four macs connecting to it. Three of the macs can connect to the network and access the internet.
My Black Macbook can connect to the network, but when I open Safari or any other program that connects to the internet I cannot actually get on the internet. For example, I open safari and after a few minutes it says I am not connected to the internet.
I can connect to my neighbor's unprotected wireless network and have no problem getting on the internet with that connection.
I have tried turning the computer off and on and turning the airport off and on and it does not solve anything. I did not do anything to the compueter, it just started this problem out of the blue.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have IP address limits ? Say I have 5 IP
    addresses limit.
That is not it. And, I did not change anything before it just stopped working. The strange thing it is only within my wireless network that I can't access the internet. I eventually get the "you are not connected to the internet" screen each time I try to bring up a web page.
