I can send iMessages but not send texts?

I don't know why but for some reason my phone will let me send iMessages but it won't let me send texts.
Also, when I send an iMessage it uses my e-mail and not my number?

In Settings>>Message>>Send&Receive, set to be contact in your mobile number and email. Below you set to start new chat just with your mobile number.

Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
Who are you using as your internet service provider at the time?
Does your ntlworld email account have an authenticated SMTP server.
I believe Yahoo does for a Yahoo account.

IPhone 5 update to iOS 7.0.2- can get imessage but no other texts

I updated about two weeks ago to iOS 7.02. on my iPhone 5. I was not experiencing texting problems until approximately one week ago. I am able to send and receive imessages with other iPhone owners. I can also send out normal texts to individuals who don't have iPhones, and they receive my texts, however, I cannot receive their texts. My problem seems to be opposite of many of those who have the iPhone 5. Help!

So I took it in to a local third party shop and asked them to look at it. They said that the update somehow blew my mother board.... My phone is just over a year old and so is no longer under warranty. I feel like Apple should still cover this as it was thier software that caused the damage.

All today, my phone has not been delivering me my regular, green text messages from anyone. But my phone will deliver me my iMessages, blue texts from my friends with iPhones. A message did pop up saying that my SMS mailbox was full and that I needed to delete messages before my messages would be received, but I went through and deleted over 400 SMS messages and that usually does the trick and the undelivered messages pour in.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

My experience has been that the first step in figuring out SMS issues is to check with the cell provider and be sure nothing has changed with the account provisioning or with the provider. Once you've eliminated this, it's time to explore issues with the device or device OS.

Very strange, [email protected] Let's get this figured out. Make sure that SMS messages are turned on. Go to Settings>Messages>Send as SMS. Please let me know if this works.

Turn iMessage on for your devices.
Settings > Messages > iMessage.

Are you referring to a regular SMS text, or an iMessage. The solution is different based on what it actually is that you are not receiving. Are these from non-iOS devices (SMS) or iOS devices (iMessage)?

SMS text messages are handled by your cellular carrier.
Check with them.

What your iPhone using friends label your phone number in their contacts is irrelevant. I don't know who you pay $9.99 a month to but it's not Apple. You can't disable text messaging on your iPad as it is not capable of SMS.
Do you still have the iPhone? If so, log out of iMessage on the iPhone.
Try this:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
Click "Unregister"
Also, try changing the password on your iTunes account.

IPhone5 will send but not receive Text messages

IPhone5 will send but not receive Text messages. Specifically, I can send my grown son text messages, but he can not reply to them, nor can he send me new texts. He and I are both on Verizon, and he has a Droid phone. His texts can be recieved by his mother, who can forward them successfully to me. When I initally received the phone (Dec 2012) I could receive and send texts with my son with no difficulty. The trouble began (as near as I can tell) when my phone was upgraded to 6.1.1. This is a significant problem and I would like it resolved as soon as possible.

Scouter, let's get you reconnected with your son, via text message. Make sure that your text messaging feature is enabled in Settings>Messaging:
enable iMessage ON
enable "Send as SMS" to ON
MMS Messaging ON
You will also need to reset the network connections in:
Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network
Finally, power cycle your phone off/on and try to send your son a text message. Keep us posted. We're here to help you.
