I can't get iTunes or Quicktime to run on my PC.

I tried installing the software with my nano, and both were installed successfully, but neither would open. So I went to microsoft and loaded every concievable upadate. Then I set iTunes as my primary media player. It still would not open. So I uninstalled and downloaded the web version, and it did the same thing. I am very frustrated please help, I want to sell my very cool looking, but currently useless mp3 player if this can't be fixed. Thanks for the help.

  • Please Help!  I can't get Itunes or Quicktime to install properly

Ok, I'm about fed up. I'm trying to get itunes installed along with quicktime, and everytime it goes through the installation & says everything is ok, but then when I try to run Itunes, it comes up an error. The problem seems to be with quicktime, b/c when I click on the quicktime applet in the control panel, I get "An exception occurs while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
The error I get when I try to pull up Itunes is:
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry.....yadda yadda...
So then I click on more info, and I get this:
    Exception Information
    Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
    Record: 0x0000000000000000 Adress 0x0000000000000000
The following files will be included in the error report:
    C:\DOCUME~1\NATALI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\5424_appcompat.txt
So anyway, I did a search for solutions in the database & I feel like I've tried all of them...at least all I could find. One said to go to a local settings folder & delete the temp folder, then reinstall. Did that...same thing. So then I saw something where you had to type a dll command in the run line, but that didn't work either. I also installed a microsoft visual basic file that was suggested might help, but it didn't. Actually, downloading that file helped me to get past the install probs, but now I can't pull the program up without an error. Please help! I really would like to put some music on my ipod. Incidentally, I recently reformatted my hd, and that's when the trouble began. I know, you're going to say just reformat, but right now is a very inconvenient time. I need a workable solution. I would greatly appreciate anyone's help. Thanks in advance.
p.s. already tried reinstalling, even hunting down residual files & registry entries with an uninstaller program to get a clean install...didn't work though.

  • Can't Get iTunes or Quicktime to open up

Help... I have no idea what's happened, but suddenly my PC won't open up iTunes or Quicktime. When I click on it, it takes about a minute then gives me what looks like a windows error that says "iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close".
I have removed and re-installed BOTH iTunes and Quicktime, but I keep getting the same message. Any ideas out there what I can do to open up iTunes?

Same problem here. Both iTunes and Quicktime wont open up anymore. Quicktime started off by saying "buffer underun problem, cannot open executable file." or something similar. So I removed it, and installed the newest version. Now BOTH iTunes and Quicktime say there is a problem with the program and I will be notified if there is a solution.

  • Can't get iTunes or quicktime to play mp4 or mp3, only static and noise.

Since upgrading past iTunes 7.4, I haven't regularly been able to play mp3 or mp4 files. The actions from the help page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303706
worked for a while but now nothing seems to work. I can sometimes reset everything so that quicktime can play the files but once you open iTunes, I'm done.

  • Can't get iTunes to close when using my iPod

I have the original Touch, works just fine so why replace it.  However, lately when I download from iTunes, sync the new songs and then click the button to disconnect, I can't get itunes to close.  It keeps opening and finally in dispair, I resort to going to the Windows Task manager and close it that way which sometimes doesn't work until I've done it several times.  At the same time I get the new Apple rules and regs, I always click accept and it still opens and opens and opens.  Does anyone else have this difficulty?  Not thrilled with Apple taking over my computer.

I have not heard of that problem before. You can try:
    - ANother cable and USB port
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Can't get itunes to install

I had itunes installed on windows, but recently had trouble with the ipod displaying as a drive. In attempt to fix that, I uninstalled, then reinstalled itunes & Quicktime. I also went into program files and deleted the ipod updater folder and the itunes folder.
When I reinstalled itunes, it didn't recognise the ipod however was displaying as a drive in the pc. So I then uninstalled itunes / Quick time and deleted all the folders again and then also deleted the temp files in local settings. Now I can't get itunes to install at all!
    Can some help please!!

    hi Froudy!
    is this your error message?
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
    love, b

  • Help I can't get iTunes to install on my computer

My husband just bought me my first iPod for our anniversary present. For the life of me now matter what I try with the troubleshooting tips I can't get iTunes + Quicktime to install properly. It will stall at 'Registering iTunes automation server' then pop up with the error 'iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.' I have completely removed iTunes and QuickTime multiple times and tried to install. This still doesn't work. I have tried installing QuickTime 7.2 as mentioned by another post, but it just says I already have a newer version on my computer, even though I thought I had removed the program. Does anyone else have any other recomendations? This is so frustrating. Why doesn't Apple have an 800 number to call for help?!

+This still doesn't work. I have tried installing QuickTime 7.2 as mentioned by another post, but it just says I already have a newer version on my computer, even though I thought I had removed the program.+
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC. (Run the Utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entries, and then click “Remove”.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders (Some or all of these may already be gone).
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Now try another QuickTime 7.2 install. Does it go through properly this time?

i can not open itunes without quicktime 7.5.5 why ?

You don't provide us with much background infomation such as operating system version you are using, but usually when I see this kind of question it gets answered by:
    QuickTime 7.5.5 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
    QuickTime 7.7 for Leopard - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl761
= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications.  I recently helped where the person had re-installed their operating system.  It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize.  Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem.  Do this manually, not with Software Update.
Installation get stuck at "configuring installation" - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592979?threadID=2592979  - uninstall Quicktime before installing.

  • I can't get itunes to start now that I downloaded 10.5.3

i can't get itunes to start now that I downloaded 10.5.3

Try following steps and test one at a time:
    1. Restart computer, right mouse click iTunes icon and select "Run As Administrator"
    2. If that does not work, check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    3. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    4. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

  • Tried to upgrade to new itunes and now can't load itunes or quicktime

HELP! i tried to upgrade my itunes. This upgrade was totally successful. I then had another problem on my computer so i tried to restore my computer to an earlier timepoint. Since I have done this, I can't load itunes or quicktime. I have tried to uninstall the programs and reinstall them but it still doesn't work. I get an error message on quicktime:
    failed to initialize- error-2095
The itunes error message reads :
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Help- I am going insane with this!!!

I followed a link and somehow ended up at this post from Mike Hogan3 and combined it with something else I came across. This is what worked for me!
1)Follow his suggestions for removing quicktime and itunes (at the end of this message).
    2)Then reinstall iTunes from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    3) Then install QuickTime Standalone Installer from this page (located in the middle right of the page- don't install the one with iTunes!) http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Hope this works! It did for me!

This might not be exactly the same problem but lots of people (myself included) had problems after installing iTunes 6.0. I did the following and it finally installed correctly.
    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of that page. When it installs on your machine it will scan your computer for every installer every ran on you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and delete those 2 installers. Then I went to add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime. Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the "add/remove programs" function.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it installed and I see all my music again and iTunes works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.

  • How can I get iTunes to display the tracks from a CD in their original (album) order?

To be absolutely honest, I don't really understand what this box is for, so I shall just use it to repeat and expand on my question. (I have already sent a "Feedback" comment on the same topic).
How can I get iTunes to display the tracks from a CD in their original (album) order?
It seems to me that there is something very basic wrong with the way iTunes handles CD Tracks.
Professionally produced CD tracks are seldom if ever in a randomised order. Why then does iTunes seem unable to display the tracks in the order they appear on the original CD source - whether from a personally owned CD or from a download from the iTunes Store?
Some music demands a specific, non-alphabetic sequence in order to make sense. Why does it seem that iTunes only offers Alphabetic, or reverse alphabetic order - both of which make a nonsense of the original, often intended order of tracks?
Why not replace the so-called "cover-art" in the bottom left hand corner if the iTunes window - which, while it may look attractive to some, gives the barest of information concerning the original disc, with a list of the original CD tracks in their original order, so that the user can easily reestablish the order in which they should be played.
As I would expect legibility might be a problem with doing this, why could not the original contents, (in their original order), at least, be displayed when the "cover art" is double clicked-on - the result of which at present gives me an enlarged version of the "Cover Art". While on the subject of the contents of the source disc, what about all the album notes which someone takes trouble to write in order to increase the appreciation of the music on the CD and the listener's general background knowledge of the artists involved. Such notes, it seems to me, have considerable intrinsic value in their own account. I would, I think, normally be prepared to buy such "Sleeve notes" - so long as a "taster" was supplied (as it is for the music) - for something like the cost of a single 'Tune" on iTunes.
These two aspects let Apple iTunes down enormously, in my opinion. I think that by chopping even quite protracted sequences of music up into bits does no one any favours - except perhaps Apple's already quite substantial bank balance. People have to be aware that two and a half, to three and a half minutes is a very short time to develop a piece of worthwhile music, and that there are many, many composers, not all of whom are alive today who have written music that huge masses of mankind value for the enrichment of their lives and the human condition in general.
Please make the viewing of iTunes tracks in their correct order by default possible. By all means have the alphabetical variations available as offering a different approach to the music, but not the sole approach to it - PLEASE.
    Frustratedly yours
    Alan Whitaker
PS I work at my old 24" iMac Intel Core 2 machine which runs OS "Tiger" - because it is more beautiful to look at, the screen is more pleasant to work on, and because, in some ways it is more capable (it will run FreeHand MX without needing a "patch"), than my more recent 21.5" which runs "Snow Leopard". (I don't find it that much slower, either).

    Dear Mike
Thanks for the support. I am utterly amazed that after all the hype about how good iTunes is that it cannot play a downloaded CD in the correct order, and that what that order should be is not available directly from within one's own iTunes installation. (I know that one can go back to the iTunes Store to check what the order should be, but having downloaded the tracks surely iTunes is clever enough to retrieve this important information.
My iTunes to differ from yours in that I have also noticed that it seems unable to download copies of my "talking books" in the correct order either. But in my case it downloads them - from a CD - in order, but with the first track downloaded first - so that it appears at the bottom of the column of tracks so that it would get played last! (At least this is, while being inexplicable, a relatively "logical" bit of blundering and because of this is relatively easy to put right!).
I like many genres of music, some of which are not really programmed except perhaps by the artist performing them. I know that Frank Sinatra was very careful to programme his album songs to obtain a particular effect and in relation to the keys of the music. iTunes presumes to know better.
Film scores may be totally randomly put together, in some cases, but in others the order is vital to one's appreciation of the music as a whole and how it relates to the plot of the film.
In symphonic music most works are divided into sections and are conceived by the composer that way. Some individual sections may gain a life of their own if played separately, but they are never complete in the sense that the composer envisaged them without being placed in their proper context.
Opera and probably most choral music too, is similar except that the words may well become meaningless if the order is changed at the whim of a piece of ill-written computer code, while ballet music has to be heard totally within its sequential context or it becomes meaningless.
Finally, I would venture that iTunes, by jumbling up the order of the tracks as recorded on a CD, does an immense disservice, not only to the music on a particular CD, but to music in general, by expressing everything in terms of "Songs" - which it seems to interpret as stand-alone items of between 2 and 4 minutes whatever the genre. Even the way the iTunes publicity speaks of how many "songs" it can store instead of how many minutes or hours of recorded sound. This has to be another brick in the wall of "dumming-down" of people's expectations, and the shortening of their attention spans.
I don't know about anyone else, but I feel betrayed by Apple over this. Perhaps the look, feel and general presentation of an item are not the most desirable features of a consumer product. Maybe it should be judged more on it fitness for the purpose for which it was sold. There is one other possibility - that Apple are trying to redefine "Music" - and that everything that lasts longer than about 3.5 minutes or is in the form of what could for want of a better term be called symphonic in the broadest sense is something else - not "Music" within Apple's new definition, at all!
Well that's off my chest! now I can get down to creating some sort of order in my iTunes Libraries, knowing that I have to reconsult all the sources in order to confirm the source playing order.
Anyway thanks again. At least I know that it is not just me
