  • How can I import MP4-files in FCPX?

How can I import MP4-files in FCPX? Should i convert the files? Do you know good (free) software?
    Thanks!

MPEG-4 isn't nearly enough information. There are many other factors that determine whether it will work in FCP. Many MPEG-4 files can be imported and optimized directly into the application.

If you have access to them anywhere, restore them from it. If not, click here and ask, or redownload the applications freely.

  • I can't import mp4 files onto itunes

i tried several times to import my mp4 files onto itunes but failed everytime. how to overcome this?

    1) find an MP3 file on your file system (in Windows Explorer)
    2) Right click on it to get contextual menu
    3) Select Properties
    4) on the General Tab the text "opens with" appears - in your case it'll be windows Media Player
    5) Click Change
    6) Select ITunes
    7) Select Always for this type checkbox
    8) Now try double clicking on an MP3 file
    9) Does it start playing in ITunes?
    10) Check Itunes settings: Edit>Preferences>Advanced
    11) Are the checkboxes Keep Itunes folder organized and Copy to Itunes foler when adding selected? If not - read the manual to understand what those two settings do

  • Can't import mp4 files

    Hello,
suddenly I can't import/open mp4 files with iTunes on my iMac anymore. I have no problem opening them with another application (quicktime) or open other files (mp3) with iTunes on my iMac. On my MacBook I still can open the exact same mp4 files with iTunes (same OS, same updates).
I opened a couple of files in a row. All the sudden iTunes refuses to open them (just the ones I've already imported before still work). Doubleclicking on a mp4 file makes iTunes start, but that's it. No import, no error, just nothing.
Does anyone have a clue what might have happened?
    Katrin

Are they Audio or Video .mp4 files?
Were they created on a Mac or PC?
Have you ever been able to open .mp4 files on these systems before?

  • Can't Import MP4 Files Into DVD Studio Pro

I'm trying to start a DVD Studio Pro 4 project, and have .mp4 video files. When I import them with the Assets>Import tab, they come in as MP4 audio files only, not movie files. The users manual says the integrated encouder auto encodes Quick Time assets into DVD compliant formats with default Compressor settings ... but that is not happening. The MP4s play fine when I double click and open them in Quick Time Player, or post them on line they work fine in a browser. I'm confused, how do I import them to work in DVD Studio Pro? BTW, I did not create them in FCP, nor do I know how to use Compressor yet. I have MPEG Stream Clip but don't know how it would help. Thanks, Tom, Miami.

Use compressor to convert them to m2v and ac3 files before bringing them into DVDSP.

  • Can't import mp4 file into iTunes

I have had a lot of success converting my DVDs to mp4s and storing them on external hard drives to play through AppleTV (I love AppleTV!). However I have a couple of files that will not load into iTunes. I get no error message but when I try to open with Quicktime I get an error message saying the file is not a movie file. The files I am having problems with were recorded from cable tv and written to DVD. Please help...

HOCKEY PUCK! Looks like this isn't a solution anyway. Tried it on a 250 MB file with 7 chapter markers and got some very random results.
    1) Clipped the previously embeded graphic from the iTunes file and applied the same workflow. This time it did not save the chapter track (just like it does in MPEG Streamclip).
    2) A bit confused, I deleted the newly created file and tried again only without clipping the graphic first. This time when I attempted to open the newly created file there was not video track whatsoever.
    3) Now I'm getting really confused. So I delete the new "audio" file and load the source file one more time. This time, instead of relying on the the "current default" options (i.e., the ones last used), I open the options window and find the "Pass through" has reset to "None." So I attempt to change it back to "Pass through" and guess what... Now that option is "grayed out" just as you say (and as I believe it used to be in QT v7.1.3).
    4) Totally flabbergasted, I close the player and load a secondary file (paired TV episode to the first file) and open the "Movie to MPEG-4" Export option. To my surprise, the audio and video "Pass through" settings are back again. Okay, so this time I decide to "tic" the chapter track to see if that will prevent it's loss. No joy!
Basically, I spend a few more wasted hours trying to figure out why I could not duplicate my original success. I even drag out other applications like SimpleMovieX and MPEG Streamclip which have "Save As..." options to "compatible" containers. Both delete the chapter track just as QT Pro is currently doing. Suffice it to say I'm growing angrier by the moment and finally decide to quit so I can update the latest results here. Sorry everyone... Really thought the latest QT upgrade had someting going for itself here. Looks like I merely "jumped the gun" instead.

  • IMovie Won't Import MP4 Files

For some reason iMovie '11 won't let me import videos.  Specifically, I'm trying to add MP4 files that I copied to my hard drive from my GoPro HD 960.  For GoPro users, I used the R2 (720p) format.  They open properly in QuickTime and VLC but can't be imported into iMovie (or iPhoto).  When I select File-->Import-->Movies and browse to the directory where I saved all the .mp4 files on my hard drive, they're all greyed out.  And actually, it seems that just about no video files at all on my computer can be added (all greyed out)--even other MP4 files.
I downloaded MPEG Streamclip but that says "unrecognized file format" when I try opening the videos.  I also installed Perian and rebooted.
    In case it helps:
    - I have an Intel MacBook running OS X 10.6.8 with iLife '11
    - QuickTime info for the video format says "H.264, 1280 x 720, Millions; AAC, 2 channels, 48000 Hz"
    - VLC says "Stream 0 (Video) - Codec: avc1" and "Stream 1 (Audio) - Codec: mp4a"
Any ideas?  This is incredibly frustrating!

Why iMovie Won't Import MP4 Files?
Technically, iMovie does import MP4 video. However, iMovie only import MP4 files that are encoded with MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC data. And yet, MP4 is a video container format that may contain various audio and video codec (and sometimes even subtitle streams included). If the MP4 file is not encoded with iMovie support codec, iMovie will refuse to import this kind of MP4 video.
How to Solve Can't Import MP4 into iMovie?
In order to successfully import all kinds of MP4 files to iMovie, a recommended solution is to convert iMovie unrecognized MP4 to iMovie supported video format.
iDealshare VideoGo is just the right MP4 to iMovie Converter which can convert various MP4 to iMovie supported MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MOV or DV. Besides converting MP4 to iMovie, iDealshare VideoGo also helps to convert other video formats including AVI, WMV, MPEG, VOB, MOV, AVCHD, MTS, M2T, M2TS, TOD, MOD, XAVC, FLV, MKV, SWF, 3GP, MVI, ASF and etc to iMovie video format.

  • Loss of quality when importing Mp4 files

When I import Mp4s into iMovie HD 6.0.3, the video quality suffers. And if there's any movement (panning/tilting) in the video, edges also look wavy once imported.
These Mp4 files are not from a camera. Rather, the original video was on VHS. I dubbed it to DVD, then ripped the DVDs, creating the Mp4 files (which look fine in Quicktime 7.4).
I'm hoping someone here can tell me if I can adjust settings somewhere so that the mp4 files will appear just in iMovie HD 6.0.3.

These Mp4 files are not from a camera. Rather, the original video was on VHS. I dubbed it to DVD, then ripped the DVDs, creating the Mp4 files (which look fine in Quicktime 7.4).
Lets see: VHS > mpg-2 > mpg4 - that is a LOT of conversion steps if you expect to maintain quality.
I tell people to think of each conversion step as a 'hammer' that 'beats' on your data because every conversion step costs you quality. I doubt there is anything magic you can do to your mpg-4 files.
The BEST thing for you to do would be to transfer your VHS images directly into iMovie. Many miniDV camcorders have a pass-through feature that makes this easy. My second choice would be to use something like DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the video on the DVDs to DV video for use in iMovie.
