Hi Jarosław,
This is a bug - thanks for pointing it out to us.
It should accept the Real Name value "Jarosław" or at least
stop you from proceeding if it cannot be used.
I will investigate further and hopefully get this fixed.

    We have a big problem.
We can't install Solaris from CD.
After Loading kernel , when it begins Searching /dev and /devices...we see this text in the screen repeated a lot of times:
    WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci1011,24@2/pci9004,8178@1(adp0):
    timeout: abort device, target=6 lun=0
And before this something like it has some problem and begins a resinc ??
    Please Could you help us?
Solaris has been purchased from Sun on 12 March 2002
    A lot of Thank's!
P.D: Please, excuse my poor English.
    A lot of thank's.

two other severs wouldn't run the cd either? Break it down a little it will be more solvable. We will create two separate problems with this. First we will check the cd disk itself. Put in another system and install solaris. If that works, move to the cdrom drive....move it to the same computer you just installed solaris on...if it works then it is another problem.

  • Help! Can'i install Solaris 9 on Dell Laptitude LS

Can'i install Solaris 9 on Dell Laptitude LS. Setting of video card and monitor fail.
    My configuration is:
    P3 450
    128MB
MagicMedia 256 AV video and sound card.
    Monitor unknown with 800*600 resolution.
Anyone has idea about that. Thanks!

Yes, OS 9 is PPC architecture only. The only way I can think of that you could possibly run it would be to download PearPC (A PPC architecture emulator-http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/) off of Windows (which is officially unsupported on Apple machines to begin with), and then attempt to run OS 9 off of PearPC.
The program is rather slow, and as you can see, the process is really quite time consuming, illogical (three different systems, one running in emulation), and definitely not worth the end result.
    Good Luck,

  • SPARC v240 can i install Solaris 10 and free Radius proxy software?

On a SPARC v240 can i install Solaris 10 and free Radius proxy software?

No, the patch was created on top of Solaris 10 packages. The patchadd utility requires that the VERSION strings match between the installed package's pkginfo file and the pkginfo files inside the patch. Unless the base package did not change between Solaris 9 and Solaris 10, the patch will not get applied because of the VERSION mismatch. But it is very unlikely that the packages did not change between the two releases.
Even if you were to be able to install it, there could be dependencies that the patch's binaries have on other Solaris 10 binaries.

  • Can I install solaris on a second hard drive?

I am completely new to Solaris. My computer runs Windows XP as its primary OS and I have a second (slave) hard drive that I would like to install Solaris 10 on. Does the installation DVD for x64 architecture automatically handle this kind of installation? Is this process possible? If it is, will I have to manually configure the BIOS to boot each OS every time I change my current OS, or will some sort of GUI dialogue come up? I would like information on this subject and if possible, step-by-step instructions.

Tottaly agree with the last post. Check if your hardware is in HCL, there is a free program you can download from Sun Download page, you burn it to CD and reboot, then it will provide you with all needed information. And if something is not in the list, you will get a hard time seting it up (there are a lot of unofficial drivers). So as an example: networkcard will be hard to install and set up. So check first.
As from my experiense conserning instalation, I would suggest to do so:
(in a way as the last post)
prepare a clean partition, or backup files on a HD. run the instalation, once you will reach the point when it will ask you how to install (Normal or Custom) choose custom, then it will go to several questions concerning where on a HD to install, thats where you can choose partitions and so on.
Just as a reminder: you dont need alot of space for Solaris to work properly, plus there not so much software which requires big amount of HD. So for OS and nice package for development you will probably need tops 10Gb.

I don't think you will have many problems in this platform, but I'm not 100% sure.
What I recommend you is to get the VMWare and try there. VMWare is a software where you can create a virtual machine running under windows. In this virtual machine you could install solaris 10 (and any other OS you want to test in your computer). I have my Solaris 10 running under VMWare with excellent results (Laptop with Intel Celeron processor)... where I have VMWare installed in Windows!

  • Can't install Solaris 10 on Parallels

I want to use Solaris 10 to develop applications, but I want to keep Windows. I thought about using Parallels. I bought and installed it, and I downloaded all of the 5 Solaris 10 for x64 iso's. I am trying to install it on Parallels, with the guest OS selected as Solaris 10 (of course), and I am setting it to boot from the first disc ISO. I get these following screens- the Parallels start screen (screenshot at http://www.freewebs.com/fourt/0.jpg ), followed by the Solaris boot screen (screenshot at http://www.freewebs.com/fourt/1.jpg ). Then I select Solaris, and get the following screens- (screenshot at http://www.freewebs.com/fourt/2.jpg ). Then, the underscore at the end is replaced by the text "Detecting Devices", and then a whole bunch of text pops up on the screen which goes down to the bottom, and this is the ending screen (screenshot at http://www.freewebs.com/fourt/3.jpg ). After that, from the Solaris 10 installation instructions, it says I should get another option screen, but it just returns to the Parallels start screen that we got in the beginning. The whole set of screens then starts again. I have selected the other Solaris boot options, but with the same result. I am using the x64/x86 CD's, and I have tried the SPARC CD's without it even recognizing it as a boot CD.
As an ending note, I know in the screenshots it looks like I have Windows Vista, but I am running Windows XP SP2 with some design changes to make it look like Vista.
Thank you in advance for your assistance, and if there is any other information I can give you, I would be happy to oblige.

Hi, I had a similar problem when I tried to Install Solaris X86 on an HP Proliant DL586g2. You'll probably find the problem Is that you need to Install some drivers first to enable the Installation. If you need more specific details I can probably find a guide on how to do this. But I'm certain It Is possible to run Solaris on the Dell It just might take a bit of perseverance.

  • Can't install Solaris 10 on DELL VOSOTRO 200 ?

    Hi All,
I am new to SOLARIS, and wanted to play with it.
I tried to install Solaris 10 ON dell VOSOTRO 200 and it does not install at all. It gets stuck at the very first place. I tried open solaris and Solaris in all different ways, CD/DVD/USB.
I used the same CD/DVD in Emachine and they get install just fine. Is solaris not compatible to DELL VOSOTRO? Or am I doing something wrong ?
    Any answer would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Envrionment

  • I can't instal Solaris in HP LP1000r!!!

I try to install Solaris in HP LP1000r,but failed.
    Machine configuration:
    PIII 866
    256MB
    HP 36.4GB
    SCSI:LSI Logic 53C1010-33 Ultra3
    error message:
    Solaris7:
I boot machine with bootdisk.I get a error message when initializing system.
the error is "64 PCI bit len unsupported. The root filesystem is not
mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely.
    Booting is unlikely to succeed."
    I can't even add drivers!!!
    Solaris8:
I boot machine with CD.I can start the configuration assistant, and
add the LSI Logic 53C1010-33's driver for Solaris8(download from LSI
Logic Corp.). But when I "start interactive installation" and "Booting
    kernel/unix",I get some error "ata_id_common:BUSY status 0x80 error 0x80"
I'd appreciate any help.. Thanks in advance! Harry.

The ata_id_common error comes from the IDE controller driver (ata).
It is saying that controller is busy when ata driver tried to issue a
command to the controller. This sounds bogus since you are using the SCSI controller. Maybe on-board ata controller is enabled?

  • I can't install Solaris 10 on my Acer Aspire 2920

When I try to install Solaris 10 8/07 on my Acer Aspire 2920 after selecting the type of the console (Solaris) on my computer starts an endless cycle reboot.
the specifications of my lap are:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5450
    Ram : 3 GB DDR2
    250 GB HDD
I wonder if someone could help me. Thanks in advanced

At the [Solaris Site|http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/get.jsp] , there are some links to tools to test your system for compatibility with Solaris10. Look for the tools at the System Requirements link.

  • Can't install Solaris 10 Express on my AMD64 Laptop!

I was all excited to try out the latest and greatest Solaris OS and so I downloaded all the ISO's and burned them twice (made a mistake the first time around), and then rebooted my computer with the bios settings set to boot from CD.
At first it seemed to load the installer fine; but then again, I wouldn't really be able to tell since I'm a Pro Windows user, but a Noob in everything else. But it scrolled some very normal linux looking text on the left side of the screen and then gave me four options for how i wanted to install.
Here's where the problem occurs. Regardless of which choice I make the installation crashes and reboots (restarts) my laptop. I've searched the web, and these forums thoroughly looking for an adequate source of community support but it seems that there's not much of a community developed yet...and hence no one able to help me out.
So I have no idea what I'd need to do to get Solaris running. Frankly I don't care if it's running in 32bit or 64bit mode, as long as it runs.
    My system:
    AMD64 3400+ Mobility
    2GB DDR Memory
ATi Mobility Radeo 9700 Pro w/128mb Ram
60GB Hard Drive (running at 7200 rpm)
    DVD/CDRW Drive (writes @ 24x)
802.11g/b Build-in (Atheros chipset, Gigabyte distributor)
    (3) Usb slots
    Multi-format Card Reader
Infared Communicator (I don't care of this works or not)
    S-Video In/Out
    A/V Coax In/Out
    Serial Port
    Additional Monitor Port
    Parallel Port
On-board 56k Modem (don't care if this works or not)
    Firewire
VIA 8235 Onboard Sound (Realtek AC97')
    VIA K8T400 Chipset-based Motherboard
I appreciate any help anyone can provide!
    Regards, Abe

    Richard,
Thanks for your reply. I was not looking for Athlon support, but indeed wanted to know if it works.
I'm aware that this Solaris Express is still a work (of art) in progress, but before asking Santa (= my wallet) for a new MoBo, I wanted to have this so called gray area demistyfied.
As you say, by default, solaris will boot/install 64 bit, regardless of the type of AMD64 processor used !
Therefore the bootstring earlier reported could have helped someone to get his machine booting, but is in a normal situation not needed by default.
So thanks to Sun and Santa, we might be running X86 64-bit Solaris next year. I started with S10 b48 in the beginning of this year on X86 32 bit, followed by Sparc 64. What will be the next step, Solaris on HP machines or AIX? We will see !
