I can't load VirtualBox OSE additions modules

Hi to everyone:
I have VirtualBox (OSE) installed on my system:
[glsadmin@researchlinux ~]$ pacman -Qs virtualbox
local/virtualbox-modules 3.0.12-1
Kernel modules for VirtualBox
local/virtualbox-ose 3.0.12-1
Powerful x86 virtualization for enterprise as well as home use (Open Source Edition)
local/virtualbox-ose-additions 3.0.12-1
Guest Additions for VirtualBox (Open Source Edition)
local/virtualbox-ose-additions-modules 3.0.12-1
Kernel modules for VirtualBox Guest Additions
I can't load the modules of OSE additions:
[root@researchlinux ~]# modprobe vboxadd
FATAL: Error inserting vboxadd (/lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/misc/vboxadd.ko): No such device
[root@researchlinux ~]# modprobe vboxvfs
FATAL: Error inserting vboxvfs (/lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/misc/vboxvfs.ko): No such device
[root@researchlinux ~]#
But they're on the system:
[root@researchlinux ~]# pacman -Ql virtualbox-ose-additions-modules
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/modules/
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/misc/
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/misc/vboxadd.ko
virtualbox-ose-additions-modules /lib/modules/2.6.31-ARCH/misc/vboxvfs.ko
[root@researchlinux ~]#
Someone else with the same problem ... anyone knows how to fix it?

wonder wrote:
do you have virtualbox-additions installed?
pacman -Qs virtualbox
No, I don't.
[glsadmin@researchlinux ~]$ pacman -Qs virtualbox
local/virtualbox-modules 3.1.0-1
Kernel modules for VirtualBox
local/virtualbox-ose 3.1.0-1
Powerful x86 virtualization for enterprise as well as home use (Open Source Edition)
local/virtualbox-ose-additions 3.1.0-1
Guest Additions for VirtualBox (Open Source Edition)
local/virtualbox-ose-additions-modules 3.1.0-1
Kernel modules for VirtualBox Guest Additions
I remember that program's package (virtualbox-additions) is under PUEL license, but I can't use the package in one enterprise environment; by that reason I thought that the virtualbox-ose-additions package could be useful for my main target: change between the guest system and the host system without to use the CTRL key for to release the mouse pointer.

  • [Solved]virtualbox-ose-additions needs virtualbox-ose-additions

    Hello everybody. I noticed that mayor updates were released some time ago but I couldn't update because of my exams. Anyway, now I'm trying to update (pacman -Syu) and I recieve the following error:
    :: virtualbox-ose-additions-modules: needs kernel26<2.6.28
    So, that package is out of date, I don't mind if I have to remove it and install virtualbox after updating again, so I tried to remove it and what I get is this;
    :: virtualbox-ose-additions: needs virtualbox-ose-additions-modules
    Even if I do a ~$ pacman -R -f virtualbox-ose-additions-modules get the same error.
    How can I remove it and update?
    Thanks

    This is the only entry I have in MODULES=(vboxdrv)
    I use Vbox from AUR as they work for me.
    I use win7/winxp fedora debian etc as guests with full access to usb/ shared drives etc.and full screen where possible as some distros do not do full screen in vbox without a lot of fiddling
    are you in the correct groups with out the correct permissions they do not work usbmux:x:140:username

  • Eclipse web project using Glassfish 4.1 can not load some libraries in modules directory

    We installed latest "Glassfish Tools for Luna" (updated on 2 October 2013) and created a new Eclipse dynamic web project using Glassfish 4.1. When try to annotate a class with "javax.enterprise.context.ApplicationScoped", it complains as "ApplicationScoped cannot be resolved to a type" although imported as "import javax.enterprise.context.ApplicationScoped".
    Checking "glassfish-4.1/glassfish/modules/" directory and there is cdi-api.jar that contains ApplicationScoped class. But when checking from the project libraries in the eclipse, couldnt see such a jar.
    My configuration:
    Eclipse 4.4
    Glassfish runtime java development kit : java 1.8.0_20
    Project java development kit : java 1.8.0_20
    Project compiler level : 1.8
    Project facets : Dynamic web module 3.1, Java 1.8, Glassfish Web Extensions 4.0, Javascript 1.0
    How to solve this issue?
    Thanks.

    There are 274 jars in the Glassfish 4.0 modules directory, whereas there are 282 jars in the Glassfish 4.1 modules directory. So it is not only cdi-api.jar. Moreover there are some libraries, the names of which have been changed.
    Why not simply importing all libraries in the modules directory to Eclipse, like Tomcat plugin does for tomcat/lib directory? So when manually deploying a library(jar) to modules directory Eclipse will discover it automatically.
    Thanks.

    Is it included with OSE? I know there are some features missing in that version. I've got it, but I run PUEL.

  • Virtualbox-ose, virtualbox-modules 2.2.0 on kernel 2.6.29

    Anyone managed to get virtualbox-ose and virtualbox-modules 2.2.0 working on kernel 2.6.29?
    I tried editing the virtualbox-modules PKGBUILD like so:
    9,10c10,11
    < _kernver=2.6.28-ARCH
    < pkgver=2.1.2
    > _kernver=2.6.29-ARCH

    < makedepends=('bin86' 'dev86' 'iasl' 'libstdc++5' 'qt3' 'sdl_ttf' 'libxt'
    > depends=('kernel26>=2.6.28' 'kernel26<2.6.30')
    > makedepends=('bin86' 'dev86' 'iasl' 'libstdc++5' 'qt3' 'qt4' 'sdl_ttf' 'libxt'

    > md5sums=('37bd7d58cf7b6c46998cfd82c1b70573')
    to get the makedeps in place I did
    pacman -Sy --asdeps dev86 iasl qt3 qt4 sdl_ttf pulseaudio gcc34 xalan-c
    But when I run makepkg it can't find Qt4

    schuay wrote:isn't qt4 just called qt?
    actually qt provides qt4. so If you call pacman -S qt4 it will install qt (which is at version 4.something)
    I have qt and qt3 installed.

    and you'll also probably need this:
    #get virtualbox working with 2.6.29
    in /opt/virtualbox/src/vboxdrv/Makefile, uncomment VBOX_USE_INSERT_PAGE and recompile module - should be fixed by 2.6.29.1
    for -ose i'm not sure where the Makefile is, but i guess you can find it with grep
    I don't think so. I'm running 2.6.29.1

  • Can't load line6usb driver module after installing from AUR

    I downloaded the line6usb package from the AUR. After building then installing with pacman I should be able to load the module ala modprobe line6usb, but I get the error:

    I looked for the module itself and found it here(assuming this is it):
    /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/extra/line6usb.ko
    Does anyone have an idea why I can't load this module? I'm still quite the noob with concerning things like this and I'm assuming it's something obvious I need to do.

    Yep, I got that far, and tried the same advice from a different user with a 'tee' command which did the same thing, but unfortunately the forcedeth module can't be loaded because its in a different directory than the 'uname -r' specification allows modprobe to search for. I posted my attempts here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1181940

  • Upgraded kernel...can't load modules??

    Okay today I ran pacman -Syu and upgraded to kernel 2.4.21.  My only problem now is that on boot, I cannot load any modules, and when I go to modprobe them manually I am given this error:
    [root@protium root]# modprobe ne2k-pci
    modprobe: Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.4.20/modules.dep (No such file or directory)
    [root@protium root]#
    A quick glance at my /lib/modules directory surely doesn't show 2.4.20 (as I would not expect it to) but rightly shows 2.4.21 where there is a modules.dep file.  My question is, what do I do (besides a symbolic link) to get modprobe to correctly work again?[/code]

    fyi when ever you do anything with respect to lilo or if you recompile or install your own custom kernel always run lilo afterwards. grub does not require this but lilo is not as "smart" and needs to know the kernel or lilo changes you have made.
    with respects t the initrd entry in lilo that is only necessary unless you have the new arch scsi configured kernel installed. i got the same error you did after the upgrade and all i did was comment out the initrd entry in my lilo.conf and then ran lilo (or you could have removed it all together but i left mine around in case i ever want an experimental or alternat kernel installed then i would just quickly edit the old initrd entry)

    Thanks Larry.  I thought so.  I will do this weekend.  Again, I appreciate your help.
    Trying to get updated software – I am not a fan of the cloud stuff.  Nothing I can do about it.
    Thanks again Larry!
