Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
In some situations, you may need to reset your computer's System Management Controller (SMC). Learn how to identify these conditions and to reset the SMC.
Note: It is possible that the SMC could encounter an issue that may cause unusual system behavior typically related to the symptoms described below. In some cases, resetting the SMC may be the only correct method to resolve the issue. However, an SMC reset should only be attempted after all other standard troubleshooting has been performed.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If your Mac appears to be running normally but isn't responding, force the computer to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. Note: You will lose any unsaved work in any open applications. For Mac portables experiencing issues related to the MagSafe power adapter and/or battery, try:
Unplug the MagSafe power adapter from the Mac and the wall power socket for several seconds.
Shutdown the Mac. Physically remove and re-insert the battery (if it's removable) and startup the Mac.
If the issue is still not resolved after following the troubleshooting items above, an SMC reset may be necessary.

  • BT Router turns off wifi with radio app

Hi everyone.  I have had BT broadband for a year with no problems.  In the last two weeks when I try to listen to TuneIn radio app any Apple device, the wifi router immediately turns off.  Wifi works perfectly for all other apps and stays connected when computers, iPads, iTouches, iPhones are in use.  I can't work out what has suddenly happened for internet radio to cut out the wifi immediately I press the play arrow.  Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.  THANK YOU.

If you have done a full factory reset, then things would be back to where they were when you first got the home hub.
Its not likely to be a broadband issue, but its possible that TuneIn radio is overloading the wireless network somehow.
Its worth trying these thing first.
Try giving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids (names). Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Check the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to NO.

  • Can't turn off swiping with Magic mouse

I have the magic mouse with a brand new 27 inch iMac, running OS 10.6.2. The magic mouse is almost unusable in any spreadsheet because the sheet will suddenly shift left and right because of my tendency to have two fingers on the mouse. This is true in Excel as well as Google's online spreadsheets. So I decided to turn off two finger swiping, but it still does it! Do I need to revert to a regular mouse or is there an easy fix?

I am experiencing a somewhat similar problem with the Magic Mouse: I cannot disable the lateral scroll feature. This is terribly frustrating whenever coming across a page that extends beyond the width of the screen: It is virtually impossible to scroll vertically without some concomitant lateral scrolling!
I've spoken with Apple Care about this... and the techs there were "surprised" that lateral scrolling could not be disabled! Their advice: wait until some 3rd party utility comes along to solve the problem!

  • Turn off cellular from control center?

    Hi,
I\m considering getting one of the new iPads, and right now the choice is between ordinary WiFi and the 3G models.
What I need to know is whether it's possible to quickly turn cellular/3G off via control center? I will not have need for constant cellular access, the way I do on my iPhone, so I want to be able to turn cellular on and off quickly.
    Thanks.

If you want, you can disable the IR port in order to be able to stop control your computer with the Apple Remote. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Advanced, and mark "Disable remote control infrared receiver"

  • Can't turn off WiFi Power Management with iwconfig

I had an issue with my WiFi connection dropping occasionally, and I found that my situation was the same as described in this part of the Wicd wiki article: <https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … connecting>, so I used iwconfig to turn power management off, like it said. But, the disconnecting issue is still there. I think power management is still on, because of this:
    [<...>]$ cat "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:02:00.0/net/wlan0/power/control"

    on
Yet, iwconfig still shows that power management is off:
    [<...>]$ iwconfig wlan0

  • Can i turn off any remote control or lock the Apple TV for use with AirPlay only?

I am using multiple Apple TV's in a business environment within one network. It all works fine except the fact that people with a remote control or remote app can configure them, which is unwanted. Is there any way to lock the Apple TV so it cannot be used by any remote feature anymore? Or is there another suggestion that might solve my issue?

Block the IR receiver to stop physical remotes from working.
Use an Apple ID that no one else has for enabling Home Sharing, or don't enable it.
The Remote app requires Home Sharing be enabled on the ATV and that the ATV and iOS device use the same Apple ID.

  • How can I turn off compatibility with 7.1 when labview 8 converts my 7.1 code?

    Hi,
I just loaded LV8 on my mac. It converted/compiled my app code to 8. While doing that, it changed many of my constants to hidden controls to maintain combabtibility with 7.1. I really don't care about 7.1 anymore. Is there a way to turn this off so I can re-compile the code and keep it the way it is?
Obviously, I am new to LV but I don't see a reason for keeping the compatibility with 7.1 if my lab is going to 8.
Any thoughs, comments, or critisims would be appreciated.

The particular issue you're talking about isn't necessarily "compatibility" with LabVIEW 7.1...it's actually ensuring that your VIs behave the same in 8.0 as they did in 7.1.  As described in that dialog box, a change was made in LabVIEW 8.0 regarding how VI diagrams are compiled in regards to Case Structures with cases that will never run.  If you are using case structures with constants wired to their selectors purely to keep VIs in memory at particular points in your code, then you should heed the advice given in the context help for the created control and use a Static VI Reference in your code instead of a subVI in a case structure.  If you are using case structures with constants wired to their selectors to comment out code, perhaps you should use the Diagram Disable structure instead.

  • Can i turn off wifi on time capsule?

Trying to limit my kid's inline time, is there a way to control the wifi on my time capsule?
    thank you

You have at least two methods:
    Disable the wireless radios, or
Use Timed Access Control to limit the times certain devices (by their MAC addresses) have access to the TC itself.

  • Can I turn off the wireless on my Time capsule? Could I then use it as an XHD backup on a different wifi router network?

I would like to turn off the wifi on my Time Capsule, use another, more powerful router, but still use the TC  as an XHD for backing up my files. Is this possible?  thanks.

The TC is now and always a network drive.. but there is no reason you cannot turn off wifi in the TC and use it plugged into another router. The only thing I would say is that using the TC wireless can still be worthwhile.. if you can get it close enough to the computer, then either ethernet or TC wireless will prevent the backups from slowing your network..
If you are going to use it on only a single computer, you can plug it in by ethernet and setup as a secondary network.. but IMHO you may as well buy a USB drive and be done with it. The external drive is faster and more reliable for backups than the network drive.
