I can't view YouTube and some other website!

Since a week or so I can't view certain websites, these include YouTube, Google Translate and Google Maps. But it's not a connection error, when I type "youtube.com" in the address bar NOTHING happens, or when I click on a YouTube link which opens a new tab it doesn't even load anything, it just goes instantly blank. I even REINSTALLED Firefox 2 times and it still not works. This is driving me crazy. In Chrome everything works fine.

Try using open DNS.
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS
click the + in the left side column and add the following:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click OK, then click Apply

Trouble viewing YouTube and some other videos

Sorry if this is a repeating problem already posted but I have toruble viewing Youtube videos and some other videos on the web. I uninstalled Adobe Flash, v.11.2.202.233 and tried to install the latest (at the time) v. 11.2.202.235 but get the "spinning ball" treatment and no progress on installation. Is my problem related to the Flashback malware or Adobe Flash or Java app?
I believe someone or Apple posted a thread on how to determine if one's computer has the Flashback malware. Can someone direct me to that?

I have the answer! you need to get into your Internet Plug-Ins, remove both "flashplayer.plugin", trash them then download the new Flash Player again. For some reason the new Flash Player didn't remove the old one and therefore it keeps trying to use the old version instead of the new. Detailed removal..... 1-Finder 2-Go 3-Computer 4-Macontosh HD 5-Library 6-internet Plug-ins 7-remove both flashplayer.plugin 8-reinstall updated Flash Player.

It could be browser incompatibility or something else. When you say you can't log in, what happens? Is the bank website generating an error saying you're not using a supported browser? Does the login form for your bank account display as usual, but once you submit the form to log in it doesn't work? Give me a specific step-by-step of what you're doing, such as...
1. I load bankofamerica.com
2. I type in my login
3. When I submit, the page does nothing
Obviously that may not be your issue, but giving us details like that will help us come to a quicker conclusion.

Facebook, youtube, and some other sites doesn't work on Mountain Lion

Since I installed Mountain Lion (today) i can't acess facebook, youtube videos and some other sites. I thought the problem was the flash player so i've tryed uninstall and reinstall, desable and enable, and read some tips that didn't work until now. Hope you can help me =)

Found the answer myself, its a commun problem in Mountain Lion. Some guy found the way to make flash work well. Maybe some of you just need to install the latest version. But the truth is there is a bug and this is how to fix it:
System Preferenes > Network > Wi-Fi or Ethernet (whatever you're using) > Advanced > Hardware > Set 'Configure = Manually' > Change 'MTU = Custom' = 1380

HELP! I cannot access yahoo/apple and some other websites

Hi
Ever since i have fixed my internet connection in the college that i attend, i have been having problems with my internet connection at home. Access to the apple and yahoo websites have been sporadical and at times just loads the hyperlinks, missing all the images. I have tried everything i can think of and have been trawling through forums to find an answer, you guessed it.. to no avail. I tried flushing the cache in terminal changing the DNS settings resembling a mac in the same house that works perfectly, creating a new airport in the system preferences, the MTU and the location. I am not a programmer so cannot tell from pings and other requests where the problem lies, but would more than gladly give anyone this information if they would be kind enough to try and solve this for me.
I am in the final few weeks of college before i graduate so i really need to access my main mail source (yahoo) between lecturers to discuss my final year projects.
Google works 95% of the time as do many other sites that i frequent, the only websites that i have noticed thus far have been yahoo apple youtube and twitter.

How do I scan for a virus? Internet won't often connect to facebook, google, youtube and many other websites while others connect fine.

Serveral times a week I won't be able to connect with facebook, google, youtube and yahoo. Usually it will say:
"Invalid URL The requested URL "/", is invalid. Reference #9.64070f17.1344033131.59fe68f5"
I'm not even using a "/" in the address bar. I'll type in www.facebook.com and that message will pop up. There is also a little white page icon to the left of the address in the address bar. When I click on more info it says:
"The site isn't using SSL. This icon displays for http:// sites. Most sites don’t need to use SSL because they don’t handle sensitive information. Avoid entering sensitive information, such as your credit card information or bank login information, on the page. If sensitive information is being requested on a site not using SSL, consider contacting the website owner."
The same thing happens when I use Google Chrome or Safari. I'm up to date on all my updates. Sometime clearing my history works, but not always. Sometimes rebooting helps, but not always. Sometimes none of the websites mentioned will work. Sometimes only one mention won't work.
Any suggestions?

What are the firewall settings on your Vista? What puzzles me is that your steam connection is fine and yet you cannot browse the internet.
I am sure you have right clicked on the system tray icon (wireless connection) and chose to repair the connection right?

Did you create a new profile for that 4.0 beta version?
Do you still have the regular Firefox 3.6.8 version installed?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

I have implemented zone based firewall with LAN 2 INET policy like:

First i blamed ISP, they checked their side and didn't find any problems.
Then is disabled firewall (should have to try it first) and everything started to work like a charm.
Then i narrowed down to removing "match protocol http".
If not use "match protocol http", everything works ok.
Is it a bug, is there a fix? any options to tweak "http"?

I came to this workaround myself, but it's "workaround", not a fix.
Just tried on another 2951 router with 15.1(4)M6 IOS. It has the same issue - youtube does not play videos.
How no one noticed such bug?

I just bought a ne Mainboard ( Asus A7N8X-X).
I installed for the nforce devices the intel_8x0 for sound and forcedeth for networking.
Now I hear strange sound when I move the mouse, load data fron HDD or DVD. Even moving the curser with the arrowkey will make such sound.
What have I to mute such sounds?

I have this problem too on my asus A7N8X-deluxe, but I have 2 solutions for this problem
On my gentoo box I solved it with the following command:
setpci -s 0:00.0 6F.B=0F
I found it somewhere on a forum, it disables cpu disconnect or something like that. Anyway, it works nice, so I created a bootup script to execute it every bootup
But I installed archlinux a week ago and I used the latest nvidia drivers this time (they are in the extra repository) and I do not have the problem anymore. I can clearly hear the noise untill I type "modprobe nvsound", then it all disappears

Since i changed my "WINDOWS" theme i can not see youtube or any other website normally, tried reading up about it and have gone through every possible guide here but none fixed my problem!

Nvm got it fixed, it was due to Stardock Windowblinded Feature which i had to reset back to normal Windows theme

Text in forms and some other websites show up in a foreign language, I think it is cantonese. How do i revert back to normal?

Form data shows up in a foreign language and im not quite sure how to change it back.

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.

Despite my spell check being set, it does not work in Hotmail and some other websites.

I have the setting for spell check set up but it does not work on some sites like hotmail. I go to the spell check button in hotmail and it tells me that my browser will automatically check as I type but it doesn't. I've searched to override this or to get the spelling checked independently but without any luck, Any suggestions?

Not all locales come with a dictionary installed for licensing reasons.
If you do not have the en-US locale then check that you have a dictionary installed (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the ''Languages'' submenu.
Also make sure that [[X]"Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick.
You can also try to toggle the "Check Spelling" item off and on again.

Suddenly i cannot load videos from you tube and some other locations, although I can load then using CHROME

The problem is that all of a sudden, I cannot load and see videos from youtube and some other sites.
When I ask to see something from youtube for example, the appropriate page opens, and in the place that the video was supposed to be loaded, I see a black screen and nothing happens.
I scanned the computer and found nothing.
I uninstalled firefox and installed it again.
The problem stays.
I browsed using CHROME and I have no problem. i can see everything perfectly.
This happened suddenly today.

Installing the Perian codec component package will normally allow FLV file containers to be played in QT players. However, it might be more helpful here if you could provide a specific YouTube URL (and resolution if applicable) of interest to check out. While I previously indicated content was typically converted to FLV, MP4 files may also be used and content may compressed as H.264/AAC in either container which, of course, should already be QT compatible without additional support.

That depends. If the file you are interested in is available in multiple resolutions, then downloading the highest available resolution would provide the best starting point for iMovie editing. If compressed content is already in an iMovie compatible compression format, then it might be possible to copy the content to an iMovie compatible file container (if not already in one) and thus avoid transcoding the data before import to iMovie. However, you still have the potential for some visual quality loss after editing when you export the finished project from iMovie.

Because I don't have flashplayer installed I can't view YouTube. However I recently installed Google Chrome as an alternate browser and can view YouTube. Does that mean flashplayer installed on my computer? Or is it self contained in Chrome? Thoughts?

Because of some of the "problems" associated with FlashPlayer and the drain on the battery I have chosen Not to install it on my MacBook Air. This does limit my ability to see any media video on a website and that includes YouTube. But I decided to live without it. (Although I don't understand why I can see YouTube video on my iPhone without flashplayer) To have an alternative web browser I installed Google Chrome. Once I did that I found I can now view YouTube videos. I thought "did I install flashplayer on my computer as a result of installing Chrome?". Since I wasn't able to find it with Finder it would appear I didn't. Then I opened Safari and tried to view videos at YouTube and was told I needed to install FlashPlayer.
Now I totally confused. Do I have flashplayer or not? Is it only contained inside Chrome? Are there any consequences to my computer? Am I ultimately exposing my computer to battery drain and potential slow down problems anyway? HELP! Thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Well... one of the benefits to Chrome is that Flash is built in and automatically updates. I believe it only runs within the browser and it does not install in a traditional sense. It should not impact your system whan Chrome is closed.
You can also view many YouTube videos using HTML5 instead of Flash. HTML5 is a newer web standard that allows for viewing videos instead of Flash. YouTube has converted many of their videos over to HTML5. You can view them with FireFox and Safari (and Chrome if you like). Unfortunately, I'm at work and YouTube is blocked so I can't point you to the link for using HTML5 instead of Flash. This should be the right page:
