I cannot import high resolution photos into iPhoto on iMac

iphoto shuts down when I try to edit a high resolution photo imported into the application.
these are scanned photos at a resolution higher than 600 dpi.

Sometimes it does not get imported, other times it does and when I try to edit with the quick fixes it crashes.
Below the latest crash.
The photo is scanned with a multifunction Canon MG6250 in color at the highest resolution.
In preview the photo is displayed well and editing is allowed, but with iPhoto crashes.
Thanks for any tips,
A.Becker

I have imported a jpeg photo into iPhoto  and cannot get the Places map tp show. I have tried the Help file and the information was not helpful. Can anyone give advice here?

I am using iPhoto 9.1.1. When I select thephoto, then Places I get the window (Places to lookup disabled). When I hit theInfo button I get the size an JPEG notification, and  Faces and Key words. The “reverse” of thepicture shows a window with Rotate, Hide, Trash etc.
When I select Places, get the Google worldmap, and this case a pin on Sydney Australia showing that eighteen photos arecorrectly placed. I am unable to make the connection to San Francisco wherethis particular photo was taken on a very modern camera.

My iPhone 4s is not importing my latest photos into iPhoto, though it opens iPhoto as if it were going to do it.  When I plug my iPhone into my iMac, it opens iPhoto, but then it does not import my newest photos.  Any fixes?  This used to work fine.

I have experienced the exact same thing... I figured out a way around it, which seems to work every time. 1. quit iTunes
    2. open iPhoto
    3. unplug the iphone usb cable from the computer
    4. turn your phone on, and unlock it.
    5. plug in the usb cable. after about 10 seconds or so, iPhoto should prompt you with items to import. -p

  • Help-how do you move iphone photos into iphoto on iMac??

I have 4,814 photos in my iphoto library (categorized into 114 events). On my iphone 4, I have 1,028 photos taken exclusively with the phone. Can someone tell me how to get all of my iphone photos into my iphoto library on my iMac?
    Thanks----

Never mind..figured it out. Just in case anyone else is dense like me, just plug iphone into iMac, then launch iphoto. In iphoto, the iphone will be listed on the left as a device and all your iphone photos will show up to the right. Simply click import at the bottom of the screen and you're on your way.

  • Importing RAW photos into iPhoto 6

I recently upgraded to iLife '06 for the sole purpose of working with RAW photos. I kept getting error message "Unreadable file(s)", so I thought i'd upgrade to OS 10.4.5. Still I receive the same error message. I can click on the file and see it's profile and a thumbnail by using "Get Info", but I cannot import the RAW files into iPhoto 6 at all. Online and phone tech support keeps telling me to rebuild the iPhoto Library, as it may have something to do with deleted RAW photo in the Library. Well, I even tried to import these same RAW photos on a friend's brand-spankin'-new G5, which only had 10 photos in his Library and no deleted photo at all, but sadly this was to no avail. The same error message comes up when trying to import.
Background; the camera used is supported by iPhoto 6 (Nikon e5700), and the files are not corrupted as far as i can tell. I was able to import jpegs from the same camera card at the same time I attempted to import the RAW pix.

Solved: This response has solved my problem completely.
Actually, only Apple's engineering staff can solve my issue, but you answered the question as completely as possible. All that time on the phone and on the chat support and no one could give me that straight answer. Sad to think I upgraded iLife and my OS for the sole purpose of reading RAW photos from a camera they claimed to have supported on their own website. Someone at Apple better get on the stick.

  • Importing/exporting Moto V265 photos into iPhoto

    Hi,
I just got a Motorola V265 cell phone. The phone have a small camera in it.
I'd like to know if there is a way to import the cell photos into iPhoto (by using an utility) ?
Also, since it is possible to put pictures on the phone as backdrop, I'd like to know if there is a way to take a picture from iPhoto and export it to the cell phone?
    Thanks

I haven't found any possible way of doing it, so I take it it is impossible...

  • Restoring old paper photos into iphoto

I will be buying a digital camera and saw a feature on a camera in local store--called "restoring old images", where camera supposedly can take digital picture of old photo prints. The store's dvd showed restoring from a colored picture and it did look easy. I have boxes of old photos (both black and white and colored) and want to know if anyone has any experience in doing this, and what to watch out for. Is this camera feature a gimmick or can any digital camera do this? I would like for quality to be acceptable into Iphoto, then into idvd, then into imovie. Thanks....

    Hello,
Is this camera feature a gimmick or can any digital camera do this?
I don't know about that camera's feature of restoring old images...how can a camera always read correctly what needs to be 'restored'?
However, you can use any digital camera to take a digital picture of old photos. It is recommended that the camera be about 5 megapixels, have macro focus, and that you use a tripod. You can then import the photos to iPhoto and retouch them yourself as needed.
You could also scan the old photos into your computer and then import the scanned photos into iPhoto. That is the method I use for my old photos. Most of my old photos are in albums and it seemed easier to just scan the photos instead of trying to photograph each one. Some scanners have the capability of doing some scratch and dust removal as well.
Timewise, both methods probably are the same. Using digital camera to take picture, you have to get each print ready to be photographed, make sure lighting is good, print is in focus, maybe clip it to an easel, etc.
Scanning prints, you can place several on the scanner at the same time, but you have to select them one at a time for scanning.
Just pick the method you prefer.
If you decide to get that camera, be sure you can try it out and return it if it doesn't perform the way it is advertised!

  • How to fix lost connections to original high-resolution pictures in iPhoto and how to import an iPhoto Book from one iPhoto library to another

    Hi there,
I am using a MBP Pro with 8 GB cache and 1 TB HDD from beginning of 2011 with OS X Yosemite and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
I created an iPhoto Book to print which contains my best pictures of 2013 and 2014. Then I got an error message when I wanted to print the book, saying (translated from German):
    Book could not be created.
With photo p233432343.jpg there was an error. The original version of that photo with full resolution could not be found or is damaged. Please replace the photo or delete it from your book.
When I enquired further, I found out, that many, many pictures in my iPhoto library have that problem - only the thumbnail picture is found by iPhoto, but not the one with the high resolution. When looking at the photos in detail one sees that they are not sharp because obviously the photo book only refers to the thumbnail. When I went into the iPhoto Library using Finder, I saw that the original high res photos are still there. As there are an estimated 3000 photos with a lost connection (some still have, it but about 1/2 of my photos don´t), it does not make sense to import those photos manually. This photo book is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say.
Then I looked for solutions in some forums. I had two lPhoto libraries, one on my HDD (120GB) and one on an external HDD (175GB). Assuming there might be problems, I have deleted (moved) the one on my HDD, because the "right one" is the one on my external HDD and started iPHoto again using the alt key. But that did not work either.
I then tried to repair my iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, and merged and rebuilt libraries. The library that came out was crap - all folders that had lost connections to the high resolution pictures now have zero photos in it. Also it is lacking the projects, including the photo book I created.
Then I went to find out if there is a way to import the iphoto book project from the old, corrupt library into the new, repaired library but could not find anything. It can only be exported as a file structure or website. As the file structure is missing the high res pictures, that does not even solve the "little" problem of the photobook.
I would REALLY appreciate your help on the two questions:
1- Can you advise what I need to to do to to get the connection to the high resolution photos established again  ? As it is more than 3000 photos, I use an automated way of reestablishing that connection. Probably an answer to this question would make question 2 irrelevant.
2- Do you know if there is a way to export and import a book project created in iPhoto from one library to another ?

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

  • Cannot drag photos into iPhoto '09

I just got a new MacBook Pro and I installed iPhoto '09 and I noticed something odd. I cannot drag photos into iPhoto to import them. I remembered in the previous version on my old MacBook Pro I was able to drag photos to the app (in the photo area) and it would import them. Now the only way dragging works is if I drag the photos to the iPhoto icon on the dock.
Anyone see this before? I think I might have some strange dragging problem because I can no longer drag attachments from Entourage and save them to folders I have to manually click the save button. I'm not sure if this is related. Thanks

It was my Helvetica and Helvetica Neue fonts. They got jacked some how. I moved them and then copied them back and then rebooted. That fixed it. I guess you used to be able to disable and renable them from font book but they were locked so I did it manually. Fixed it.

  • Best way to import photos into iPhoto from apeture

    Hi
I imported all my photos from iPhoto to apeture a while back, and after using it for a year, have decided its not for me.
Now I want to import them all back into iPhoto from apeture, with preserved events (projects in apeture), metadata and quality.
Can anyone provide a step by step guide to do this easily and efficiently?
    Many thanks in advance
    Richard.

he only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
iPhoto has no knowledge of, and knows nothing of how the Aperture Library works. It cannot read the Aperture library.
    1. Export all your Masters
    2. Export all your Versions
You can write the metadata to the files on export - check out the Export presets. Note that you cannot export Faces. There is no convention for sharing Faces. The best you can do is use Faces as a basis for keywording.
Import them into iPhoto. Note that there is no way to associate the masters with the versions in iPhoto, so you'll have apparent duplicates.

  • Importing photos into iPhoto from Hard Drive

Mike just downloaded our back up onto our newish Mac after our Macbook bravely went to it's grave in coffee.    I'm now trying to import about 100 - 200G of photos into iPhoto from my hard drive.  I really do not want to spend the whole time selecting and dragging these pictures.  All that I read so far says that is the only way to get them off your hard drive.  Some one please rescue me and tell me there is another way!  Unfortunately I have already started a new photo album with pictures from my iPhone, so I can't just start a new album with these pics.  Thanks for any help I can get. ~Kari A.

first off do not import an old library into iPhoto - it does not work
If you have an old library you simply drag it to the new computer and launch iPhoto while depressing the option key to get the select library window and then select it - repeat to select a different library
If you have just the photos (not =an iPhoto library) then simply drag the folder of photos to iPhoto

  • Can't import photos into iPhoto

I have a Sony DSC W5 digital camera. For five years I have been able to import photos from the Sony camera into iPhoto. In the last two days I can no longer import photos into iPhoto. I get an "unrecognizable file" prompt. I can drag the photo files onto the Finder and view them there. The photo on the Finder has a .jpg suffix just as all the other photos in iPhoto. Anybody got an idea on how to solve this problem? Thank you.

get the photos off of the card and reformat the card using the camera format command
Can you import the photos from disk once you have moved them from the camera to the disk? If not try opening one preview and saving as to create a new file and import that
