When i click edit original it opens in preview mode how do i edit in PS

Using the tools your operating system provides, you need to link the image type to Photoshop.

An xmp file is not an image. Usually those are the files containing the settings used for raw conversion, any metadata keywords, and other data that PS/PSE can't write to the files themselves. If those really are all the files on your disc, contact the photographer, because it sounds like someone made a mistake.

  • Can I open .ai file w/ text editor and edit linked file path?

I want to relink a placed file in a lot of illustrator files to a new file with a different name. I've tried setting up various actions but it is not doing what I need. If I open the file in a text editor such as Notepad++ or Text Wrangler, I can find the linked file path in two places, if I edit this path and save the file (still with .ai extension) I thought the link would change, but when I reopen the file, it does not change. Any ideas?
If I make an action to relink a file, the action will only place a new file but not replace the old one. I also can't get it to place into a specific layer.
    Any ideas?

CSS files are plain text with no links, so what you see is all there is.
In order to apply CSS to HTML, you need a <link> tag in your HTML.
If you install the Web Developer Extension from the Firefox add-ons site, there is a handy "Edit CSS" sidebar that lets you play with style rules and see the effects live. Note that this pane is not saved, so if you switch tabs, you lose your changes. Make sure to copy out any changes you want to remember.

  • Can you place linked files into Photoshop CS4?

If you place a .psd or .tif file into an InDesign file, you are alerted if any changes are made to that file (as I'm sure most of you know). Is there any way to do this within Photoshop? I have several dozen carpet sample .tif files that are to be used in several hundred "montage" type "carpet sample groups" layered .psd files that will then be saved as images for the web (does that make sense?). Is there any way to do this so that if there's a change in the original .tif file it will automatically change any .psd file in which it's being used? I know the easiest way to do this is in InDesign, but I have two problems: 1) the conversion from InDesign to a web image is laborious, and 2) the person doing the work does not know InDesign at all. I can show him how to use it, but that's a small part of the battle.
Any suggestions? I'm using CS4 for Windows.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

Thanks for your comments. The problem arises because we have to create that intermediate Photoshop step.
We have, say, a dozen individual carpet swatches that are used to create hundreds of combinations (which are all separate layered .psd files). If one swatch changes (color, for example), then we have to open every .psd file in which that swatch appears and change it (or place the changed one). I'd love to be able to change the original and have it update every layered file in which it appears, just like InDesign does with placed/linked files.
    Maybe there's a plug-in (wishful thinking)?
Also, I'd really like to have it changed in the web development end of things, but we're working with a company that is (obviously) using templates and we can only give them single images, hence the need to create the intermediate Photoshop files.

  • How to edit PSD files on Photoshop Creative Cloud

    Hi there,
I am new to Creative Cloud and just downloaded the Photoshop App to my desktop. However, I can't seem to find the options where I can edit my psd files. Can someone please help me? I would like to know how I can start editing PSD files on the Photoshop Creative Cloud App.
    Thank you so much!

    HI Resumeboston16,
Which version of Photoshop are you using? Photoshop CC?
You'll probably still want to save you PSD files locally to the computers hard drive. You can upload them to the Creative Cloud files page here https://creative.adobe.com/files through the browser.
Then you could download it on another computer to work on it there.

  • Edit LR file in Photoshop

I would like to edit a file in PS possibly using layers. Then come back later, select the file in LR, go to edit in PS, and be able to edit the file with the layer structure in place and the lightroom adjustments in effect. At present this seems impossible. I have to choose to edit with the layers, or without the LR changes. Makes no sense.
It seems if you want to do some layer editing and not flatten the file yet, you just need to export out of LR and complete the function in PS.
    Am I missing something?

Unfortunately you can't. You're not missing anything.

  • I cant load .ant file with photoshop CS5 Extended version

I need to load a .ant file into photoshop cs5 please tell me how. When I simply double click it doesn't

I just Googled .ant and it seems ANT is a file extension used by SFR Calculator (formerly CalcANT). ANT files are used when saving the calculation data. No relation to Photoshop files at all. I strongly suspect that c.pfaffenbichler caught your typo. So:
Place your .atn file on your desktop.
Open Photoshop and shift it if necessary so that you can also see the .atn file on your desktop.
Choose Windows > Action  You will see it as a panel.
Double click on the desktop's .atn. It should load to your Actions panel. If that doesn't do the job, choose Load Actions... from the Actions menu in its upper right corner.

  • Editing Lightroom files in Photoshop, still wants Plugin 7.3

I have just joined Creative Cloud and I have used it to upgrade from CS5 to CS6 and reinstalled LR 4.3.  However, when I go to edit in Photoshop, I still get "This version of Lightroom may require Photoshop Camera Raw Plugin 7.3 for full compatibilty".  I have tried to install this plugin, but Photoshop says it is already there.  How can I get Lightroom and Photoshop to work seamlessly as they should?

If this is the reason, and it may well be, I think it's almost unbelievable that this bug in the installer is still there. When you uninstall the old version it takes a lot of registry entries down with it, including many used by the new version. File associations for one thing, and apparently also links to Lightroom. It turns up in the PS forum regularly, so it's not as if it isn't a known issue.
I first encountered this with CS3 and IIRC I had to uninstall, then use a registry cleaner, then reinstall, to be able to move on. But possibly a reinstall over itself - first CS6 then Lightroom - could be enough.
Anyone contemplating removing old and presumably no longer needed CS versions: Don't. Just let them pile up until reformat-time. License-wise, it doesn't matter. If you're dead determined, uninstall the old version before installing the new.

  • Linked Files in Photoshop

I need to create a large multi-page website using many photoshop files. I'm wondering if there is a way to have a "source" photoshop file that is used in many other psd files and, when updated, automatically updates that file in all of the psd files it's used in... like when you link art in Illustrator or InDesign.
So, for example, if I create the header navigation in a psd file named "header.psd" and then place that into a file called "home_page.psd" and "contact_page.psd", if I need to update the original header.psd, is there a way to only update the original and have the changes cascade to home_page.psd and contact_page_psd?

An additional note to this less than efficient scenario... pretend you are not programming the actual website, you are asked to hand off a layered PSD file for each and every page, screen, and module within the website. This is a requirement regardless of whether there may be more efficient scenarios using Fireworks combined with Dreamweaver. Additionally, you have no say as to what the developers use to program the site nor how they receive the files.
What I'm trying to avoid here is laying out 200 photoshop files and, when the client says, "Oh sorry, we gave you the old logo" I have to go into ever Photoshop file and replace the logo. I understand that there are better ways to accomplish this by using software other than Photoshop. If I were to build this in Illustrator, for instance, I could maintain a file for each page that, when placing the psd into ai, it would maintain a link to that file. Therefore, when I updated the logo.psd and reopened any of the ai files, the logo would update in those files. Or, in Fireworks, I could maintain a common library of graphics.
My current solution would involve setting up a master PSD file that had a layer comp for each page so that I can cascade changes globally throughout the file and, when it comes time to deliver the required separate PSD for each page, screen and module, I can export layer comps as separate PSDs using the automated script in Photoshop.
    Any other suggestions? Please share.

  • Photo EXIF gone when editing LR files with Photoshop CS3

All I get is somethink like "edited in external application." How can I regain or retain original data (from Nikon D200 RAW files)?

Using LR 1.31. After editing, "Save" command used in CS3, which moves a copy back into Lightroom. (LR set up to stack CS3's edits, which possibly is relevant per Adobe KB 333740.) Files enter LR from memory card in DNG format and return from Photoshop in PSD. (Setup problem?) Using PS 10.0.

  • I am trying to edit VOB files and Photoshop cs6 ext. won't accept them.

I am trying to edit some VOB files from my daughter's wedding CD.  But Photoshop won't accept that format.  I read that I could just change the extension to AVI  and drag them in.  I did that and it opened  them but the video and audio didn't sync.  The size was distorted but I figured out that I could change the aspect ratio to widescreen from the view menu which looks pretty normal.  But I see black lines on the sides of the video.   What do I have to do to be able to edit the video??
    Thanks

VOBs are multiplexed MPEG-2 DVD files and they adhere therefore to the DVD spec - 720x576 pixels, 1.43 pixel aspect ratio. Anyway, you are wasting your time. The files will need to be converted in an external tool to be usable in PS and even then the question is how much sense it makes to edit video in Photoshop, especialyl when it contains audio. Premiere or other edit programs would be much more adequate.

  • How to make muse edit original file in photoshop?

On my mac, it always opens the jpg in preview. Guess I could always pre-open the jpg and save as a psd... that is a workaround that would just require more time however. In that case I could simply open it in ps and work on it, then update in muse.

At present Muse relies on the operating system to decide what application opens for a given file format. In order for a .jpg to be opened in Photoshop you'll need to change the file association in the Finder. Click on a .jpg file, select File:Get Info and choose Photoshop in the "Open with" section and hit Change All. Note that this has the down side that double clicking on a jpg in the FInder will now open it in Photoshop, which may not be what you always want.
Having specific "Edit Using Photoshop..." and "Edit Using Fireworks..." features is something we'd like to add, but haven't gotten to yet.

  • Cant open cr2 files in photoshop cs2 or cs3

Is there any faster way to open cr2 raw files from my canon g11 camera in photoshop, the dng converter I downloaded takes way to long. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Probably not. Sounds like you are not able to use hardware acceleration because your system isn't up to it and thus any alternatives would probably suffer the same limitation and feel just as slow....

  • Cant edit sql files,help!

when I edit a sql file,I can't delete anything ,if there is any configuretion that can block the rights? But It's strange to see that ,I can append any words to the files, anybody can help me ,thanks!

It sounds like your accelerators might be confused and it no longer knows that the Backspace is the delete previous character key (the key mapping seems to get confused ocassionally). Go to Tools > Preferences > Accelerators and select "Delete Previous Char" in the Actions list and see if there is anything in the Accelerators on the right. If not, you can revert to the standard accelerators (which tends to fix the problem) by selecting the "Load Preset ..." button.
