I'd like to use iBooks author to make a book. Thing is I don't have an iPad (yet) but would still like to make a book and read it on my iPhone 4 but I'm having a hard time doing that. Please advise.
I exported it and saved a copy to my desktop. It appears as a folder. Then I dragged it to my other books on iTunes. Check. Then when I wanted to sync, that book was not listed. Please help.
The Performa 6400 has an IDE hard drive, not a SCSI drive. This means that you can use one of those inexpensive USB-to-IDE adapters that plugs into the drive's data interface and includes a separate power supply. Because this type of adapter isn't platform-specific, you can buy one from a PC store for about $15. The USB-to-SCSI adapter that you wish to purchase will likely cost you more than a vintage Mac sold in thrift stores. An older Mac or Power Mac with an internal SCSI bus and ribbon cable with an extra connector would enable internal connection of the Quadra 950's hard drive.

Can I create a book using the IBooks Author word processing software, save it as a PDF, then have it professionally printed on an offset press to sale in brick and mortar stores? If so, is this procedure free from any IBooks restrictions?

If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish. -
I am using OS X 10.8.5 but I'm having a hard time downloading Mavericks.
It keeps on showing that there is an error downloading.
Can someone can help me?Some have managed to resolve the problem by cancelling the download, logging out of their App Store account and then logging back in again and starting over. The same approach also sometimes works for a stalled download:

Also, if you are connected via wifi, try connecting via ethernet cable if you are able to. It's a 5.3gb download and it seems the more reliable the connection is, the better. -
I'm trying to make a time sheet and include a grid, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to print a full grid on my spreadsheet. There are options for shaded grids but I want a defined grid, and I have spent the last 2 hours looking for the answer. Any ideas?

Are you planning to have this table do any of the calculation, or is is to be used as the electronic equivalent of a sheet of paper with a grid printed on it—a place to record the data.
For your seven column table:
Are you using one or more rows at the top of the table to label the data below? If so, you might want this row (or these rows) to be set as Header Rows.
Are you using the leftmost column to label the rows? If so, you may want this column to be a Header column.
The default table supplied on the "Blank" templates contains one header row and one header column. If you need more (or fewer) Header rows or columns, select the table, then go Table (menu) > Header Rows > (choose the number you need). Repeat to set the number of Header Columns.
To make a seven column table from the table supplied by default, click on any cell in column H (The eighth column), and drag right to add more cells to the selection, until you get to the last column of the table. With these cells selected, Go Table > Delete Columns.
To make the remaining seven columns fit across a single page:
Go View > Show Print View to show the table as it would appear when printed to paper.
Select the table by clicking its icon in the Sheets List to the left (easy method), OR by carefully clicking on the outside boundary of the table itself (fiddley method).
With the table selected, you will see square white handles at each corner and at the middle of each side (including the top and bottom).
With the mouse, grab the handle in the middle of the right side of the table and drag right (or left) until the table just fits onto the width of the defined page.
With the table still selected, set the thickness and colour of the cell boundaries using the Gaphics Inspector (as described by Jerry), or using the Stroke, Thickness and Color Well controls in the Format bar above the working portion of the Window.

1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups made while on Snow Leopard, then you may do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion/Mountain Lion files. -

BUT, I'm not having success with Photostream. Help me.....I've been researching and trying everything I can and so far, no luck. OS 5 updatee, I can get anything to do what it needs to do. I have added all of my apps to my computer file, even updated those that needed to be updated. When I finally get ready to up date to OS5 and hit the prompt, I am sent to a ;paid that tells me everything that will be updated, but there is nothing on theat page re uiring me to accept. So I close that page and hit download again, and I get to the page again. If I hit syns, I am syncing 1 out of 4, however it barely makes through the 1st backup, or sync---I'm not even sure what it is doing because sometimes it refers to sync, whi;le other times if refers to back up. Can someone help me? I've been working on this now for 2 solid weeks and it is very frustrating. ould I be signed in to my itunes account before I plug in my usb attaching my phone? Should my phone be ON and should I uno that It is completely on? I don't remember having to do this before. I am NOT using a MAC. I.m using Windows 7, just as I always have,.

There is a new $5 iBooks Creator app in iOS app store for the iPad.
The output looked pretty good for an iPad app.
There is a video on how to use it to give you an idea of how easy it is.
It creates ePub 2 whihc can be read on all platforms with an ePub reader except Amazon Kindle whihc forbids such things.
You can run the ePub through Calibre and get MOIB for Kindle which works for me.
I have done thirty or forty conversions so far. -
I am in the process of authoring an eBook using iBook Author. The project is a work in progress and I want to share the draft with other collegues. We each have our own iPads synced with other computers and we have different iTunes acounts. I attempted to preview the book on the new iPad, but the iPad did not come up in the available device window.
