I don't have wi-fi so I have plugged Ipad in my computer right clicked on start , opened explorer to see my Ipad but I cant download my apps
No end of trouble , Bought Ipod . No help from shop . I have no wi-fi .
Plugged ipad into my pc linked to I tunes all good . Ordered my apps But although they are visible on my pad I cant use them ????
Bit of Apple at the moment .
Any suggestions ?

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, as your tagline says that you have iOS 4 then you can only update via your computer's iTunes, as described half-way down the page that you posted from.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes and selecting 'Backup' (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC)
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

How do I enter an iTunes U course code in iTunes on a PC? My teacher gave me a course code to enroll in their course (unpublished), but I don't have an iPad or iPhone. Can I use iTunes on my PC? I don't see a place to enter my enrollment code. I also tried using the link sent to enroll but it doesn't work either. Am I out of luck?

There are two kinds of content available, "courses" and "collections". If you look at the iTunes U section on the iTunes Store, you'll note some are square (collection) and some have a faux wire binder and tabs (course); you can subscribe and watch collections from within iTunes, but courses only work on iOS.
The content you see in iTunes on your PC are "collections", while your teacher has created a "course". Collections are more like podcasts, with only audio or video episodes available. Courses have more structure and richer content, including assignments and iOS-specific materials like App Store links and Pages documents.
While the distinction is not particularly relevant for iOS users – one can subscribe to either type – it is admittedly confusing for desktop users since the distinction and terminology are not explicitly defined.

You are allowed to have two machines with activated installations, so if you only had one installation, you still have the option to install on a second without doing anything further than that. If you originally downloaded the purchase thru Adobe then you might find a download link available in your Adobe account online. Based on your post it sounds like you would like to sync your iBooks content with your computer. I have located an article that may help you in this situation. While you can sync this data with your computer you can also use the sharing button to send PDFs using various sources:

Every purchase page for an ebook has a section that says "Requirements". What does that say for your particular book? That should give you the answer to your question. Conversion is normally not possible.
But there are some exceptions. Please provide the Title of the book if you want further help. -

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.

In Itunes I don't have a listing in the column for "Devices" so I can check to see if my Iphone can sync all my new ringtones. I have one ready to go but cannot get it downloaded to my Iphone. Where is my "Devices" heading in the column on the left side of my Itunes page?
