I exported my 1080i project as QT movie with current settings but...

when I burned it onto a dvd using iDVD and displayed it on my LCD HDTV using my PS3 (more acronyms please?) it still look compressed/pixelated and had artifacts. I exported to QT movie using "current settings" so I was assuming that the quality would be as good as it was while viewing it in FCP. Any idea what happened?
(using fcp 5.1.4)

Might try using Compressor and DVD SP for the DVD creation... the encodes to MPEG are better there I believe.

  • Moved Premiere Elements 10 project Error: "Project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements"

After moving an entire client folder from an external hard drive to an internal one, the client's video, created in adobe premiere elements 10, will no longer open in adobe premiere elements 10. It appears to be loading the project, and instead of completing, the following error message is displayed: "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements."
The same thing occurs when attempting to open the archive files.
New projects, and unmoved projects behave properly.
    Moved projects receive this error.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 on a solid state drive (SSD) (c:/), where premiere elements is installed

    Archiving Aspects of this.....
First let clear the matter of the "archiving" as a life saver.... We do not appear to be on the same wave length.
    a. I am talking about File Menu/Project Archiver with its Archive project and Copy project options. This feature is a safety net to save you when you
inadvertently disconnect source media from the project file. With the Archive option (Trimmed Folder result), you get saved to the computer hard drive (safe keeping) a copy of the project file plus copies of the media that were taken to the Timeline. With the Copy option (Copied Folder result), you get copy of the project files plus copies of much more.
    b. Instead, you appear to be talking about "archiving" in the context of AutoSaves. AutoSaves are saved snapshots of the project at various phases of the edit. They suffer from the same shortcomings of the original project that has been disconnected from its source media.
When you import media into a project, all you get are copies of the originals in the project. But, those copies need to trace back to originals at the locations where they were when first imported into the project. Moving, renaming, deleting files/folders that went into the project after the project save close leads to some very time consuming messy situations.
    What to do....
If you can, put everything back the way it was. If not.....
    Let me emphasis some factors..

Here you mention specifically "client's video". Later you detail with .mod files converted to .avi. What kind of .avi? If you have converted to AVCHD.avi or H.264.avi, they have been found not to be compatible with Premiere Elements. You should not be able to import them into any new or old project.
From what you described, I am envisioning
    "Video" Folder
    which contains 2 folders named
    "Timestamped Folder" with .avi files
    and
"DVD" Folder with the project file (project.prel)
The project file has many files generated automatically in the course of it workflow. Where do you have them going?
(See Premiere Elements  10 Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs). If you have the Scratch Discs directed
"Same As Project", then we would expect all those files to be going to the DVD Folder in the above scenario.
If we could open the project and get greeted with some "Where is the file.....?" messages, that might give us some hope.
But that is not the case.
Consequently from what you have said, I am suggesting that the path of least resistance is try to recreate the "before".
    Please review and consider.

  • Converting AVCHD 1920 x 1080i projects to HD MOV

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on a PC. I have a project that is composed of AVCHD MTS files (1920x1290 60i 29.97 fps, upper field first).
If I export to an MP4 using the H.264 codec everything is fine.
If I export to an MOV then the frame rate stutters or it stops completely. The audio plays fine the whole time. I used the H.264 codec here too so I find it odd that it worked with an MP4 and not with an MOV encoding.
Anyone have suggestions on how to export this type of project to an MOV so I have the highest quality fort an archive file? Can you tell me what the exact Quicktime settings should be in Adobe's Media Encoder or what I should export out to so that I can convert in Quicktime Pro?
I even tried exporting to an uncompressed AVI and had a similar problem.
Finally, this may be unrelated but if I export as a DV AVI and bring the SD clip into Quicktime Pro it gets vertically squeezed.
Any help on the settings would be much appreciated.

I have the exact same issue, using MAC OS, so I assume this has nothing to do with the operating system. Converting any AVCHD footage (source is a canon HF10, 17Mbit/s) to .mov (Apple ProRes 422 or even h.264) results in a video that looks like 10-15fps. Playback of the original AVCHD footage or exporting to an MP4 works great though. I reproduce the same error no matter which transcoding software I try. (There is an available demo of VoltaicHD which I tried for example.)
Following an idea from another thread I deinstalled Perian and rebooted - unfortunately no improvement. Please help!

  • Trying to share movie with "Expert Settings" - nothing happens (help?)

When trying to "share" (export) my movie, if I select the "Expert Settings" option, nothing happens. That is, if I select "Expert Settings" and click "Share", then a dialogue window displays briefly and disappears, and the main iMovie window returns.
I'm running iMovie 4.01 on Jaguar. I tried deleting my iMovie prefs and the ~/Library/iMovie files, didn't help.
My iMovie project was previously corrupted somehow, I started a new project and imported the old ".mov" file to try to salvage it. This seems to have worked somewhat (I can play the movie and I can export it in some formats). But I can't use expert settings.
    Help?
    Neal

    Two things you might consider:
    - QuickTime export may fail if the ~/Movies folder is missing. Re-create that folder if that is the case.
    - iMovie 2.1.1 can't export to QuickTime if Roxio Toast Titanium 5.0.1-5.1.1's Toast Video CD Export 1.0 is in iMovie's Resources:Plugins: folder. Toast Titanium 5.1.2 installs Toast Video CD Export 1.4 which fixes this. With new Toast versions this is not an issue.

  • Editing H.264, exporting with current settings results in transcode?

Hello,  I just edited a H.264 (.mov) home video and exported it using "Current Settings". The original file size was 400 MB but the export resulted in a 4.5 GB file. FCP X obviously transcodes the original material. I've also tried exporting the same file using the "H.264" setting, the result then was a 300 Mb file. This corresponds to the cutting I've done but the export process still took a lot of time and CPU to finish which proves transcode taking place again.  In the past I used Quicktime 7 Pro to cut and edit H.264, it never transcoded the files and the saving was quick an painless.  Am I missing some settings here or is FCP X currently unable to edit H.264 and export it without transcoding the original material?  Thank you

    Hi Badunit,
thanks a lot for this clarification. It perfectly makes sense in the way you describe it.
Maybe you can give me an additional recommendation ?
At the end I need my film in h.264 format and of course I'd like the film to be in terms of quality as close to the original material as possible. Original files are AVCHD HA (so h.264 codec with 17Mbit/s) in 1080i resolution.
So far I have exported my material directly from FCP X (using either the "export to h.264" from FCP itself but also trying several h.264 export formats from Compressor). All these attempts ended up with a quality that is visibly worse compared to the original AVCHD file, even when I use a bitrate for the output that is much higher than the 17 MBit of the original material. Resolution is fine but scenes with fast moves are really bad in some cases. From a "naive" point of view this seems strange to me: An output file in h.264 25MBit/s should be as good as the input material that was h.264 17MBit/s, shouldn't it ?
From what you stated above, I now wondered if I should better export to ProRes first (thus building what you called the "master" in best available quality) and than build the h.264 file from the master with Compressor in a second step ? means: go the way "Highly compressed" -> Master -> "Highly compressed" instead of directly doing "Highly compressed" -> "Highly compressed" ? Would there be any difference ? Or is the material anyway transcoded to ProRes in the background when exporting to h.264.
Happy to receive any recommendations / experiences on this.

  • Why does export with "current settings" compress 1440 x 1080 to 720 x 480?

I am trying to export some clips from fcp x to motion (wish you didn't have to do this, to begin with). Anyway, my clips are being exported in a lower quality )720 x 480)-- all of the choices in the "export" drop-down menu are 720 x 480, even though the clip is 1440 x 1080, imported to dfcp from hdv format.
Thanks for the help; this is driving me nuts.

Ah, well it says 1440 x 1080 in the project that I am editing, but since I wanted to only fix a short clip, I created a "to fix" project and put the files I want to fix in there to export. That project had defaulted to 720 x 480--there's the problem. Thanks, yet another.

I rented an iTunes movie using my iPad but I didn't have enough space to download it.  I thought I'd be able to jump over to my MacBook and do it instead but the movie doesn't show up in the "purchased" area.  What can I do?

  • Exporting a movie with the settings "nearest neighbor"

    Hello everybody!
I am trying to upscale a movie from an old video game. The resolution is 320x240 and should be upscaled to 1440x1080. The problem is that I don't want Adobe Premiere Pro 6 to upscale it using a chroma subsampling method (http://ingomar.wesp.name/2011/04/dosbox-gameplay-video-capture.html), instead I want to use something similar to the option "nearest neigbor" (the one you have in Adobe Photoshop when you resize images). Why I want this is because I want to keep the pixels from the video game sharp. Is this possible to do?

And if you take a screen cap, import it into Photoshop and upscale by a factor 4 (with Nearest Neighbour) the result is amazing!
Actually, I find that up-rezzing with the Nearest Neighbor algorithm to be about the lowest quality of any of the algorithms. It came first, and is basically a holdover from about PS version 2.5. Bicubic interpolation was added later, and then Bicubic Smoother and Bicubic Sharper.
However, I am always working with continuous tone, high-rez digital photographs, and not screen-caps, so perhaps my material is not the ultimate to judge Nearest Neighbor?
Still, for a 16x increase, about the only thing that I can suggest (and this is for Stills, and not Video) would be Genuine Fractals (once Human Softaware, but acquired by another company). Still, that is beyond the max limit that I would be comfortable with.
Others have mentioned Red Giant's Magic Bullet Instant HD, and I would download the trial, then test. That might be "as good as it get."
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • When I export the the F4V to a MOV with Media encoder, why does it loose all of the animation sync?

I need to turn the F4V file that Captivate outputs into a quicktime movie. However when I use media encoder (i also tried it with premeire), The final product is all messed up. The audio plays back in real time, but the video simply runs through the animations one after another, until they end, and then the mov cuts off abruptly. What is going on? How can I turn the f4v into a quictime movie?

If you sync an iPod automatically with an iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with the contents of the iTunes library.
Apparently, you had music on your iPod that didn't exist in your iTunes library. iTunes did exactly what it said it was going to do (remember that warning you didn't bother to read?)... it replaced the contents of your iPod (your music) with the contents of the iTunes library (your videos).
I'm sorry you lost your music, but this is how it has always worked.
    Cheers!

  • Movie with stills - settings, raw, jpeg...

i took some pictures with my Rebel XT at a wedding last weekend and i am trying to create a movie in iMovie with them. i shot everything in raw and uploaded the images to iphoto then imported them to iMovie and created my video. i have exported the finished movie a few different ways and just not happy with the results. im just not sure if i am using the right settings or format for exporting. also, im wondering if there is maybe a problem with using straight raw or if i should export the pictures to jpeg first then import to iMovie.
any help with any of this will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I shoot in raw as well and after uploading my photos into iPhoto, I import them to iMovie without converting to jpeg. Through considerable experimentation, I have found that the following two processes work best for creating a DVD:
    1. share movie to Media Browser then to iDVD, save as a disk image, and burn using Disk Utility at the slowest speed possible;
    2. export to desk top (not using Quick Time), drop the .mov project into iDVD and burn from there, either directly or using the disk image>disk utility route.
Both processes have given me sharp, vivid images. At the moment I am working on a project that is 6 minutes long and growing. I have read in these discussions that iMovie is not meant to handle projects more than 15 minutes long. I will have to wait and see what happens when my project begins to exceed this time limit.
    Good luck with your project.

  • Exporting video with normal settings but video plays buffered

    Hi,
I have a preset in APP that i always use for TVC, today i went to use the same preset (with good quality footage) and when i go to play the exported video it plays very buffered and you can barely watch it.
I exported a video yesterday using the same preset and now that does the same thing (yesterday i worked fine) on other computers too it also buffers.
    Any ideas?

    fiatchrysler wrote:
the frame rate was very high i changed it down to 25 (thats the only thing i changed' and exported it again as H.264 format and 'match source'. still shows as skipping when playing exported video.
The video footage i am using to create this video is in quick time - would that have anything to do with it?
Did you try manually lowering the bitrate as I suggested?
If the original MOV footage plays fine, I don't see a reason for it being an issue after being exported.

  • Media Encoder CC 2014 Exports larger file than Media Encoder CC with same settings

We like to deliver final exports to most of our clients with the following settings:
    Format: Quicktime
    Codec: H.264
    Quality: 100
    1920x1080, 23.976, progressive, square pixels
    use maximum render quality
audio: uncompressed, 48khz, stereo, 16 bit, single track
When I used to export a ~5 minute video using these settings with Premiere or Media Encoder CC (7.2.2.29), I would get a file ~1GB. If I export a ~5 minute video using these settings in Premiere or Media Encoder CC 2014 (8.0.1.48), the result is ~ 4GB.
Any thoughts on why this might be? I assume it's a user error but I can't nail down what it is.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi matthewrichie88,
I used the same settings that you have mentioned above on a Windows 7 computer and got the same file size with both versions of Media Encoder. Please specify if you have a Mac or a Windows and which OS exactly? It would really help if you can post screenshots of your export settings with both versions. Give more details about the source files as well.
    Thanks!
