I feel lost (orphaned)

Ok, I feel lost. When Oracle took over Virtual Iron, we knew this would be the end of the VI product line. But, we were hoping that the next chapter would be a fantastic new product morphing both VI and Oracle together......(so said the hype)
So here it is .... October, and the defunct VI product is still light years of Oracle as far as the Management.
I am not going to install Oracle VM for this reason. Why spend the time to learn a new product that one day may be like the one I use now. With the Oracle solution, I need to install the server, then a management server... I need to install server on every new physical server... Yuk, lets step back in time.
If I were to use the Oracle VM.....is there a white paper on how to migrate the VMs over? How do I get from point A to point B.
Since VI works with the latest Windows 2008R2, and is very stable, if I can get more processor licenses for VI, I am staying put for the production servers.
We are in the middle of deploying Citrix and our vendor plus management want to virtualize. Just does not make since to do this on a product that is going to change, either VI or Oracle...... So the decision was make to use the Xen server from Citrix. Since it was free, it was a no brainer. Its not as nice as VI, but it needs to be installed on something.
However, if we get comfortable with Xen, it will be hard to hold management back from making the full migration over to Xen Server.
I guess I am also disappointed in the lack of perceived progress of the Oracle VM. Where is Oracle at with the development of meshing the technologies together?
We need feedback!
-Shane

Hello, Chris Barclay here, formerly responsible for Virtual Iron's product management and now with Oracle.
I **do** believe the next chapter will be a fantastic new product morphing both Virtual Iron and Oracle VM together. While I can appreciate your sense of urgency, I believe it is important to take the time to make this best-of-both worlds product "right".
Please refer to our [statement of direction that describes the functionality of the combined product|https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=859714.1] as well as timeframes. We are tracking well to our goals and we look forward to positive feedback from our existing users.
You have a number of options for how to migrate to Oracle VM. It is reasonable to maintain your existing infrastructure on Virtual Iron until the products come together. Oracle VM is also free, and has a rich feature set. I would recommend looking at it if you are looking at XenServer. Oracle VM 2.2 is able to import Virtual Iron VHD images. For larger installations, we can offer additional options.
I hope this helps. Please stay tuned, and if you're at Oracle Open World this week, please come to our roadmap session where we will be describing additional details and showing the first screenshots of the combined product.

  • I understand code but I feel lost in AS3

Ok guys so first sorry for posting this message which is not really RELEVANT in coding or anything but I need your help.
I'm trying to learn AS 3 with Adobe flash CS6 and I've been at it for a week, but I tried FlashDevellop before.
My problem is that I am COMPLETELY lost. I understand a bit of code (variables, array, conditionnals, logical operators, event handling at some extent etc...) and i litteraly (yes i did) followed EVERY tutorial that was on the first/second page of google for searches like "How to code in AS3 for flash CS6" or things like that. But i feel lost.
Some tutorials tell you to use frames and don't even talk about classes, like everything could be done with only frames on the timeline and code in frames. Others don't even talk about classes and tell you everything can be done with code in one frame
What I'm trying to say is that : Making games seems really fun and coding doesn't look THAT hard (I just search for fuctions or events name on the web when i'm not sure since I've just started)
But sometimes I don't even understand what I did wrong, or what i should actually do at one point. What should i use and well yeah I have no idea.
I'm trying to make a little flash game like Elona Shooter (http://www.kongregate.com/fr/games/noanoa/elona-shooter) but way simpler that this ofc. Just a basic for my first one.
I'd say a bit more like this one : http://armorgames.com/play/4964/
But Idk, at first I thought I could do it with the bit of knowledge I have and the internet but I get messed up with my classes, there are some things that I have no idea of how to do.
Like adding sound, I actually know how to do it using frames, but i don't know how to do it using classes, and i started making the game with only classes so should I switch to frame? Or can i use both?
If you guys have a GOOD tutorial, like one that not only explains code but how the WHOLE THING works, that'd be SO great like really.
Once again sorry for posting this disorganised text. It's just that I don't know if it's just me having a lot of trouble with such a simple coding language, or if there's really a lot of things to take into account.
Thanks a lot for reading if you did haha, and if you have any answer, please share .

You should start with an "intro to programming" class.  A class that teaches the basics of programming.  You should know everything taught in this class before moving on to anything else - so you don't waste time learning these things by trial and error.
I googled for intro to programming videos and there's a Stanford class on video (it looks like its all there).

Here's the first video on youtube

  • What next? I am feeling lost.

    Hello.
I am at the last page of my Swedish programming book. Most of my knowledge today is about applets. I know how to add and use action listener with buttons and text fields and I know how to make simple 2D animations. I know some about object orientated programming and I am trying to learn how to use API to find answers and solutions. My goal is to learn how to write a good-looking Graphical User Interface with child windows and every component a good GUI might need.
I don't know what to do next or where I can find new knowledge. Please recommend good books for learning how to write good GUIs!
I really could use a good overview of this language. Is there a good howto explaining the difference between Swing, Awt, Frame, Applet etc somewhere? please help me out, I am feeling really lost.

thank you. I am currently reading the page.
but what is really the difference between Awt and Swing? I noticed that a button with ActionLister can be done with help of Awt and Swing. You import very similar:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    vs
    import java.swing.*;
    import java.swing.event.*;
so what is the difference between awt and swing?

  • I feel lost with this phone! :(

I got the bb 8330 about a week ago and think i've done pretty well but im still lost in the following areas:
how to add a contact to bb messenger?
how to download music from my computer (i downloaded the bb disc and have usb cord) to my bb?
how to send a picture in a sms instead of email (no sms option when i click on the pic, only email)
Can someone pretty please help me?
    Thank you, Thank you!
    Stacy

    For the BB Mess
There are two methods of adding contacts in BlackBerry Messenger. One is via PIN and the other is via email. A PIN is an eight digit alpha-numeric code that is assigned to every BlackBerry device. You can find your own PIN code by going to Options>Status>PIN on your BlackBerry device. If you are requesting a contact by email, you simply need an email address associated with their device.
    Method 1—Requesting by PIN
First, you will have to open up BlackBerry Messenger and click the track wheel or trackball depending on the device you have. In the drop down menu, select ‘Add a contact.’ You will be brought to your address book. At the top of the list there will be an option that says ‘[Use Once]’. Select this option and a menu will appear. Click ‘Request by PIN.’ On the next screen you can enter the PIN code of your contact and press enter. You will be prompted to enter a personal message if you choose and press ok. At this point the contact will be added to the pending group in BlackBerry Messenger until the contact accepts you.
    Method 2—Requesting by Email
Requesting a contact by email is the almost same process as requesting by PIN. The only difference is instead of clicking ‘Request by PIN’ you click ‘Request by Email.’
Method 3—Adding a contact already in your address book
If you remember back in method one when you were brought to your address book, we selected ‘[Use Once].’ This is unnecessary if the contact is already in your address book. If the contact is in your address book and has a PIN or Email address associated with it, you can simply click their name. Again, you will be given the option of adding a personal message.
Can I create groups to organize my contacts?
Yes, BlackBerry Messenger will allow you to create groups of contacts. For example, perhaps you would like to have a group for family members and a group for work contacts. With BlackBerry Messenger open, click the trackball and select ‘Add Group.’ Here you can enter the name for your new group. Now that you have created your groups, you need to organize your contacts. Highlight a contact’s name in BlackBerry Messenger and click the trackball; select move. A menu will allow you to select the group where the contact should go. Select the group and press enter. The contact will now be listed under that group.

  • Feeling lost.

So, I just bought my first MacBook. I love it. BUT......I've got an iPhone and an iPod that were both loaded on other computers that I don't have access to anymore. I want to take the music from each, put it on this computer, and be able to access it for both devices. Any help? I'm sure it's something basic that I'm missing.

The iphone is not a storage device. The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. It is designed not to allow what you want to do. Iphone can sync to ONE library/computer at a time. When you sync to the new machine, the current music will be erased from the iphone and replaced with the new computers info.
You should move the music from the old machine to the new machine first, then sync. If you are moving from a Mac to a Mac then you can use migration assistant to move everything over and you can sync without losing your music. If you are moving from PC to Mac, the Apple Store will move info for you.
Where is your back up? You can use your back up to move your itunes library to the new machine.

  • Credit Score in the 400's and I'm feeling awful :(

I went from a 700 credit score to now 490 and I'm not sure how or where to begin towards repairing my credit. I separated from my husband 2 years ago because our relationship was becoming extremely dysfunctional and I didn't want to expose my 2 year old son to the disaster we were going through at that time. When I moved out I was only working part time as a school teacher and unfortunately had to let some of my obligations go unpaid which has ultimately affected my credit for the worse. Now 2 years later, I'm divorced though teaching full time and need to get my credit repaired, the thing is I'm not sure where to begin. I have almost 7 charge offs and 4 collection accounts and at this point I'm feeling lost and hopeless. I've considered using a credit repair agency but not clear how beneficial they really are? Please any advice, encouragement or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please any advice, encouragement or help would be greatly appreciatedc. Thanks. First step is to get your reports, which you apparently have done. Second step is to "triage" the damage. Separate them into groups - Charged off accounts that have not gone to collections, Collections that are updating each month, and collections that are dormant (not updated in a year or more). The first group does the most scoring damage, and has potential to worsen - they can spawn more collection accounts, and judgements. The second group does the maximum damage that collection accounts can do, and the third group does the least amount of damage. Try to work out repayment plans/settlement agreements with the first group - the priority is to get them settled and reporting a $0 balance. That will result in better score right off, because those balances will not be used in your UTI portion of FICO scores. The second group items you want to approach each one ONLY if you have the ability to pay in full should they turn very agressive in you negotiations. You want to try to negotiate a PFD if at all possible. While you are doing all of this you also want to work on establishing new credit. You may have to open a couple of secured credit cards to begin with if you have no current credit accounts at all. I would suggest beginning with Capital One and OpenSky if you need to go that route. Avoid predator lenders like First Premier and Credit One. Do you have any current credit accounts at all?

  • I am Lost on where to Post this but I am tired of throwing money away by staying with Verizon

I have a MOTO old phone and I want to upgrade.  I have never had a smartphone.  The MIFI 2200 has never worked where I live, even know it is a 3G device and all the tech support agents have been unable to help me.  However, Verizon kept taking my money for nearly a year.  I was even paying more than what I should have been paying until about 3 months ago an agent said; "do you know the MIFI unlimited price is $10 less than what you are paying?"  So that went down $10.  It still has not worked for a year and all I am told it is because of this small pocket in Salt Lake City that is Unified and near railroad tracks, which make the signal unable to reach my MIFI2200.
My contract has been up for about 1 year and I would like to either get far away from Verizon or give them another chance and get an iPhone and the 4G version of the MiFI made by the same company.  I understand Samsong has a model too but I was told the company that makes the MIFI2200 3G is the way to go with the 4G.
I know this all will be like living in the stoneage and moving to the current age, but I think I can handle it.  I am open for suggestions.  I se that I can go in to an Apple Store and have them get me hooked up with an iPhone on Verizon but I would lose my New Every Two.
I really feel lost.  I was told the 4G mobile hot spot will work where I live in the same location where the 3GMIFI has not worked for a year.
Is getting ripped of by Verizon just par for the course or am I just a sucker that has no luck?
    any suggestions?

How did my Post turn into people thinking that one gets a new phone?  I never said that.  The program is discontinued but those who still have it will get it.  I have 2 lines, one for the MOTO cell phone which gives me $30 off of whatever comes up on their website and $50 off of whatever comes up that the MIFI2200 used.
does anybody know what mobile hotspot has the best reputation?  the MiFI2200 3G has a 4G but I have heard that the Samsong is the best.  I have no idea what to do but I am hoping the 4G will be able to get a signal since I need a back-up for the online courses I teach.
what other phone is as good or better but easy to use as the iPhone?
I would like some recommendations but not any ******** comments.  I am lost and geting more lost the farther I look into what devices I shold get.  I need a phone.  what are some of the good phones?  I have researched but the more I research the more confused I get.  I think getting other's recommendations gives me some idea where to at least look.  I am not asking for somebody to tell me what to buy just some advice for a newbie.
I also need to upgrade the MIFI200 3G line.  I likes the 3G when I lived at a place it worked but when I got in this dead zone it was useless.  I am really hoping the 4G will over-power this dead-zone since it appears some people have commented on another forum that their 4G has worked in the area I live in Salt Lake City that is a so-called dead-zone.
it sucks not knowing much about this topic.  I read, research, read, ask, join forums, read more and research more but it boils down to how the device will work where I live (as far as the mobile hot spot) and the phone it boils down to what are the good phones and a phone that a person who is not good with this technology can understand and use without too much brains in this topic.
that does not make much sense but maybe somebody will give me some recommendations as far as what to replace my MIFI2200 3G with and what to replace my MOTO cell phone with.  I think it will be cool to be able to send a text.  I have never sent one but how practical it all seems.

  • Touchpad no longer scrolls up and down on Satellite A

So my HD crashed and i have to completely install Windows and all the Toshiba stuff with it a new.
All is well - except for one thing, my touchpad no longer scrolls up and down using the side of it in IE or Chrome, but it still works in SeaMonkey.
My Computer technician tells me it's an issue with getting some new driver for the touchpad, and i think i had to do that already about a year ago when i still had my original HD running.
So i went to the Toshiba.ch website and tried to find something.
I found all their "verfication" stuff and got inside the system and it instantly returned about 45 drivers by the looks of my "un"-driving eyeys they all could have been for whatever, so i searched especially for "touch pad" and yes, there was one for my Synapsis touchpad and XP as well, so i downloaded it - or i should say i opened it in Win Zip and checked first on the "readme file - wow, that was some Portugese in there, and that's when i kind of begun to feel lost.
I check in at Toshiba.ch, get a ton of drivers in my face i have no clue whether i am supposed to download them all or what, and when i finally pick what i think i need the whole thing seems to be in Portugese, what the crickey in the afternoon is this???
Anyway, before i download and try to install stuff i have no clue about i was hoping someone would actually give me a better hint on what i have to do exactly to get my touchpad to scroll up and down again also in Chrome, IE and where ever else.
I use Service Pack 3 on Win XP Pro and was told that's maybe why the old original driver for this laptop needs to be updated, but which file, where to get it, and how to properly install it please anyone???

Thanks for that, you confirm what i actually found out myself in the meantime.
The way i got this issue solved was that i first tried to download and install the Synaptics driver from the Toshiba site - that simply failed miserably, glad with no negative side effects at least.
Nesxt i used what unfortunately is way easier that sites like the Toshiba overload, i used Google to simply find the Synaptics website and instantly got the link to their driver download - eh voila, that actually gave me a .exe file, not an endless array of zipped files like the stuff on the Toshiba site in endless language versions!!!
This worked, tested everything out alread since a while.
    - Which now leaves me with the question about the second driver you mentioned,
    Alps Electric
what is that one needed for??
I have not seen this name on my lappy before, so totally unsure about whether it still needs this dispite things are working everywhere, i did not even have to go into the Device Settings of the Mouse / touchpad to change or rearrange anything in there after the direct download from Synapsis, but well informed is always best, so if you could let me know about that
    Alps thing would appreciate...

  • Anyone know how to contact anyone in Verizon headquarters?  Since I'm not getting anywhere with Customer Service

I'd like to express how unsatisfied we have been with Verizon on an issue that has been ongoing now since March 14, 2014.  It involves an upgrade on one of our lines.  After all these months, phone call with customer service, Tech support, and visits to a Verizon stores, I would hope that there are ample notation on our acct but since I've had to explain the situation on a bi-weekly time frame, I would assume that no one has documented any contacts.
We've been with Verizon for few yrs now and I have always been very satisfied with Verizon who, up until now , always provided excellent customer service in their knowledge, concern, and customer satisfaction.  But I have to say, every positive outlook I've had with your company has been wiped clean with the worst service we have received in the last few months.
We upgraded my daughter's phone on 03-14-14 with a Samsung Galaxy Mini from an Iphone 4s.  Within 24 hrs, the phone failed.  After 2 visits to a Verizon store the next day which took 6 hrs, we still had to return the next day to speak to a manager.  The 2 stores advised us to make a CLAIM on the defective phone thru our insurance plan with Verizon.  A CLAIM on a 24 hr old phone!!  A 3rd visit with a manager finally convinced him to replace the phone with another new phone at the store.  Within 2 weeks - issues began to occur with the replacement phone.  Several visits more, several calls more with Customer Service, several calls more with tech support which adds up to soooo many of our time taken up to simple have temporary "fixes" is outrageous.  If I billed Verizon for my time, perhaps the situation would have been resolved more quickly.  Each visit lasts approx 2 hrs, each phone call approx 1-1 1/2 hrs.  We are talking at least 2x a month for the course of 5 1/2 months.  Plus the time it takes to get the phone back to where she needs it - contacts, apps, internet.
Not once were we offered a new phone or replace the phone.  Not until today.  Replace the phone with the same phone that my daughter has grown to hate.  So basically a 3rd phone - same phone.  She is not interested in this phone any longer.  She dealt with this phone model for far too long.
Today we were offered to replace the phone with same phone, or pay for a refurbished Iphone 4.  So basically she would be going back to her original Iphone 4s before the upgraded WITH a cost.  So her upgrade was wasted, we'd paid over $200 for a defective phone, and would need to pay for an even older model Iphone 4 and have to pay for it.  Why wasn't she offered a different phone within those 30 days after the upgrade and 6 visits?
Every rep at the stores, every rep in tech support would provide a different reason for the issue.  Finally, tech support advised not to download apps.  WHAT GOOD IS A SMARTPHONE IF YOU CAN'T HAVE APPS???  We are talking about a 20 yrs college student who attends school in another state.  Do you know the trouble she has to go thru to visit a store? To find 2 hrs between being a full time student with 2 jobs to sit on the phone with a tech support or go to a Verizon store?  Once-ok  Twice-maybe  BUT for 5 months?
She's not eligible for an upgrade.  She will be stuck with a phone that she had grown to hate.  And I with customer service which I've grown to hate.
Finally, The Edge.  Trying to find a way to make my daughter happy, I spoke with 4 representative today about the Edge.  Each rep gave me 4 different information.  1st rep advised Edge phone could not be used on another line so I could not use a line eligible for the Edge and give that phone to my daughter since she isn't eligible for the Edge.   2nd rep advised that although new phone thru edge must be used by same number that it was eligible for, we could use the current phone o that line for my daughter.  My son currently has an Iphone 5 and is eligible for the Edge early upgrade.  He would not have to return his Iphone 5 so my daughter could use it.  However, all the lines would have to go to the More Everything Plan and share the Data between all our phone lines.  3rd rep advised the cost would almost double from our current $358 to go to the More Everything Plan so suggested to have 2 accounts vs just 1.  4th rep advised not every line needs to go the More Everything Plan, we could not keep the current phone, and my daughter could get a replacement phone but same phone or made exception to offer the Edge early upgrade to my daughter but only after we go thru the replacement program because the phone we send to Verizon has to be in good working order/no defects.
After 5 1/2 months, it is now Verizon that is indicating that we have a defective phone and can't accept it thru the Edge program or we would get billed approx $299 for a defective phone.  After 5 1/2 months of me calling in about a defective phone that not one rep replaced because they "fixed" the problem ( by the way, a temporary fix is not fixing, if it was fixed I would have made those calls today or writing this email), I am now being told her phone is defective.  She advised to get a replacement phone first, return the old phone, activate the new phone, then call in to get the Edge early upgrade.  So my daughter would have to do all this, plus add contacts back, apps and whatever else she needs to use her phone just to turn around a couple weeks later and do it all over again with the new phone thru the Edge program.  Once again, we are the ones having to be inconvenienced and go thru all these steps.  Did I mention she is going to be studying abroad in Italy beginning Nov?  So the idea of having to wait 2-3 weeks for a new phone and having only a week or 2 to test the phone to make sure it's working properly before she's out of the country doesn't sound appealing to me.  Verizon has made us have a defective phone for 5 months advising it's in good working order after each and every "fix" but Verizon will not accept that phone if returned in the same condition as a phone in good working condition.  Do you see the irony in that?
I have reached my limit and after 5 yrs of my brother in law trying to convince us to switch to AT&T where he works in their Corporate Office, I can honestly say I will not be sad to leave Verizon.  Especially when one of your reps simply provided me with the contract end dates to provide to AT&T because they offered to buy out our contract.  No effort in customer retention what so ever.  That was a phone call on Thursday.
And yes, one of your tech reps tried to convince me of all the hassle it would be to switch and time AT&T would take to buy out our contracts but honestly it was the pot calling the kettle.  I am not in the position to discuss hassle and time after 5 months of getting that with Verizon.  Did I mention it's my brother in law so we would be getting special treatment and no out of pocket expenses to switch.  It was my loyalty and satisfaction with Verizon that has kept me from switching all these years.  Something Verizon clearly does not appreciate.
So can you guess where I am with confidence that your customer service department is knowledgable about the plans/offers?  Where I am that I can trust what I'm being told?
I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.

I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • Why is my brand new iMac so slow?

    Hi,
I bought my iMac about four months ago. Never had a Mac before and I'd been looking foreward to it
    for a long time!
    Specs: iMac 27" | OS X 10.6.8 | quad core | 2.7GHz | 4 gig ram | 1 TB disk | 1333 MHz | DDR3
Very early it striked me how slow this machine was! Starting and rebooting is insanely quick, but
that's about it! I work in Photoshop, and it is just horrible. It crashes all the time! I am used to work
with several layers, I can't do that here. Because it's sooo slow...
I also work in a 3D program called ArchiCad and this is even worse! I've had to teach myself a
slower workflow to prevent it from crashing. I hate it...
If both Photoshop and ArchiCad is open at the same time, the Mac crashes VERY fast. I have to force quit app's
and reboot the Mac often. Sometimes several times in one day.
I see this little circus wheel all the time and it's driving me nuts!
Sometimes the Mac just crashes without having lots of apps open. I might have a couple of browsers open,
a word document, finder and a priview. And it crashes!
And I have to do the eternal job of force quitting and trying to tell the Mac to reboot. This often takes a while.
The Mac is full of small problems also.
    - I have to install the magic mouse all the time! It just gets lost and I have to use my track pad
to search for it. Even though the batteries are new. Sometimes this only happends once every
second week, sometimes it happens 15 times a' day.
    - Sometimes I can flip between pages in web browsers by swiping with the mouse, sometimes I can't.
Sometimes I can do this when working with folders, sometimes I can't.
    - I often have problems with Java.
    - The web browser Opera crashes all the time. Can't use it.
    - Sometimes, videos from f.eks youtube can't play.
    - Just opening a photo in preview can take 10 seconds! Not allways, but sometimes.
    - Using cover flow with images is useless. It uses so much time to preview the photos with good quality.
You might wonder, what have this dude done to his Mac?
I have installed Photoshop, ArchiCad, Chrome, Opera and a small app for browsing an old iPod touch.
    That's it!
Since I'm a photographer I've also put a lot of photos here, but not more than perfaps 100GB. Max!
I am very, very carefull with what kind of websites I visit. I never visit a website I don't trust.
I don't download anything (movies, games etc). Everything I have is original. No pirate.
So I brought it wth me to my local apple store. They thought it was a problem with the disc.
After being without the Mac for a week they told me nothing was wrong with it. It was perfect they said!
My jaw dropped all the way to the floor.
All they could say was that I could format and reinstall the intire system and/or upgrade to 8BG ram.
Do you guys think this will help? Why should I reinstall? I can't understand how I could've screeved the system up!
And really? I should use MORE money and upgrade to 8gb Ram? My previous 2gb Ram PC was so much faster! Is this necessary?
I hope someone can give me any advice.
I feel lost. This is by far the worst purchase I've ever done. I hate my Mac...

    Well,
To start Dan, you are using quite a few CPU, GPU, RAM and HD intensive apps.
4 GBs of RAM isn,t going to cut it. 8 GBs isn't going to cut it! Not at all! 4 GBs Of RAM is the base (read minimal ) RAM the iMac model you bought comes with. It doesn't mean it's enough to run lots of Applications. Epecially processor intense applications you're trying to run!
Every re-iteration of OS X uses more and more CPU, GPU, RAM and HD resources.
OS X, BY ITSELF, needs between 2-4 GBs of RAM just to do its things smoothly.
Using Photoshop alone needs oodles of CPU, GPU, RAM and HD space for scratch disks.
If you are a seasoned Photoshop/Adobe user, you should already know this fact!
ArchiCad is another, CPU, GPU and RAM heavy app.
You have various browsers, email, word documents open simultaneously? Really?
More than one web browser open? Web Browsers also eat up lots CPU and GPU cycles and RAM!
The thing that eats up CPU, GPU and RAM cycles with web browsers is Adobe Flash and to some extent Java.
You're trying to run all these thing on very little to no RAM horsepower!!!
You're asking your iMac to run all these heavy processing apps with no additonal RAM available to do so.
As you've discovered, this is not working.
You're probably getting a lot of page in/outs and virtual memory swapping between real RAM and the hard drive.
You need to install, AT THE VERY LEAST, 12 GBs of RAM! I would just install 16 GBs of RAM and be done.
Your iMac can take up to 32 GBs of RAM, but this, I think maybe overkill. Try your system with 16 GBs first.
I have a 2009 27 inch iMac with 16 GBs of RAM running CAD and Adobe CS 3 and Blender 3D and other processor intensive apps with very little issues.
Buy reliable RAM from online sellers Crucial memory or OWC.
As wise advice from me, if you want to experience a smooth and productive Mac experience, do not upgrade your iMac to 10.7 or 10.8.
10.6.8 Snow Leopard is the last "real" version of the previous Mac OS X versions that many of us still love and use. Newer versions of the OS, basically, still have many issues and turn your iMac into a giant iPod, iPHone or iPad., Instead  of being a fully customizable and reliable OS.
The magic mouse is really a crppy mouse to use with drawing and painting applications like we both use.
Ditch it and purchase either the old RF style Mac compatible wireless laser mice or purchase a wired mouse.
These mice are more accurate pointing and tracking devices.
Look at Mac compatible mice models from Microsoft, Logitech, Kensington or Apple
The battery life of the magic mouse is just poor, also.  Its tracking is poor for fine mouse movements, too!
Does your wireless trackpad work any better? Is it better on baterries? Do you get fine control using it?
If the trackpad is better, than just ditch the magic mouse all together.
If the trackpad give you trouble, too, ditch it for a more accurate mouse, trackball or trackpad from another manufacturer other than Apple. Again, Mac compatible trackpads from Microsoft, Logitech and Kensington.

  • My ipod touch keeps turning the volume down by its self  and when i try to turn it back up it wont let me also when the sound is off the speaker that comes up when you turn it on down on the screen wont go it just stays there it doesn't go!Any ideas why?

I got my ipod for christmas this year its the 4th generation. It keeps turning the volume down by its self, when i try to turn it up it does not work. It wont let me i dont know why so i cannot play music on my ipod which defeates the reason i got it.Also when it turns the volume down its self or i on the rare occasion that the volume works and i turn it down the speaker comes up and will not go.It stays there which is making my ipod difficult to use.Its been doing this for about a week now.I used it alot and i feel lost without it haha. Does anyone know why its doing this? Or a way i can fix it? I've cheaked for updates and there is none!
    Thankyouuu
it looks like that when it is locked and when its unlocked it looks like this

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck

  • HT1198 unable to share libraries with multiple users

I read thru and followed directions on how to share using a disk image, I was able to copy my iphoto library to it and select it to open on my account, I set permissions to read and write for both other users and ignored ownership on that driver. it works for my account but it says that I dont have permission for the other one other and on my daughters it said that i would have to do an upgrade and I did not have enough space to write on the drive. I made it 100gb and am only using 10 gb. feeling lost  please help. Thanks

version 9.4.3 I ended up copying ther iphoto library to the shared users folder and telling iphoto to pull out of that folder on both accounts. I deleted  my daughters account and gave her the old computer for her home work and such. so far it is working. if there is a better way let me know. I do have a hard drive plugged in for backup purposes, should I use it for the shared iphoto library or just leave it as is?

  • Advice needed for beginner to Flash website building

    Help!
I have zero knowledge about using Flash.  I am being asked by my boss to build a flash web site for our music and video game stores.  I built our old site in Dreamweaver.
Does anyone have advice on where i should start?  A suggested book that will walk me through beginning to end.  I've worked through a few tutiorials but I feel lost as far at the time line and actions.
Any expert advice is appreciated.  I need to get started in the next month.  I'd like to build it myself instead of outsourcing to someone else.
    Know where I should start?

    Lindsay,
Last month I built my first Flash website after following this tutorial on Lynda.com:
    http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourseN.aspx?lpk2=735
Needless to say the concept behind the tutorial was mind-opening, at least for me: I have a HTML/CSS background and I always used Flash almost only for banners, headers and simple animations.
    Hope this helps...
