I have gone into Mac Help and followed this down to stage 4:
under shared it lists my time capsule and my husband's iMac - both use the time machine but we have switched his off temporarily. Clicking on my Time capsule I get "Connected" and "Sharepoint" - I didn't have to enter connect or password
I don't understand stage 5: how and where do I select the disk or volume that contains Time Machine backups ? How do I know which it is? My disk utility lists 160.04 TOSHIBA MK... with sub-heading Macintosh HD. It also lists (with a "CD" icon) HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS22N
Under stage 6, how and where do I Locate your backup ? I try dragging my Time capsule from Finder to the Disk Utility side panel but it won't go. What is my computer's name?
Please someone help! I'm completely stumped.

TS1368 For the last three days I have had trouble connecting to the iTunes Store. The blue icon pops up and it is impossible to download newsstand or indeed any purchased apps. When signing in, the same icon pops up so it is impossible to do anything.

Why is connection to iTunes stores so temperamental? For the past 3 days I have been unable to download my newspaper subscription or use my iTunes account as the blue icon pops up and says there is no access and one just has to press OK. I took the iPad to an Apple Service
Shop and the assistant deleted my newsstand and reinstalled it which helped until the next day when exactly the same thing happened. I tried to do the same and eventually got back into the store after several hours trying. The same has happened today and it is getting tedious. I have used the iPad without trouble for three months but now this happens every day. The wireless connection is fine but if I close the device and come back later iTunes is unavailable. What is the problem? Boone of the solutions in troubleshooting apply or work.

I have been unable for the past few days to download attachments to E-mails on my Mac OS using Firefox

I have been able to download attachments to E-mails for years. However, for the last several days the download process which seems okay but the attachment doesn't show up on the screen and a note appears about a blank document. When I switch to Safari, the downloads work fine. Therefore, I assume that the problem is with Firefox.

Schedule report for the last 45 days.

Enviorment
BOBJ 3.1 SP 3, FP 3.3
Report is built on Universe created on Bex. we have created the Date prompts in universe using the Invoice date object.
Business Requirement is to schedule the report that will run and brings in data for the last 45 days. I have tried to do this in universe but unable to acheive it. Any ides.
One way that we want to aviod is using a user exit variable in bex.

Have you tried appliying a filter on your report using the CurrentDay function.
The only disadvantage is that you'll have to include all the data in your query, then the filter at report level will filter the data.

My current settings for the security audit log is 20 MB (by default). I dont want to control it with file size limitation, but by the no. of days the audit is recorded (max 30 days).
What are the parameters that I would need to maintain?
Or any additinal config is required?

I have just activated the audit, and in just 30 minutes, I can see that the file is about 45MB. If this is the growth rate, the 300MB allocated for audit will completely used in just a day.
My requirement is - I want to track users and their activities for the last 30 days (or 45 days). No log should be overwritten unless it is atleast 30 days old.
In SM20, when I give selection from 1.1.10 to 31.1.10, it should show me all the activities during this period, without any breaks.
Other doubts: Do I have to start auditing manually every day? Or will it keep writing logs until it reaches 300 MB which can spread upto multiple days.

We work on a domain that uses Symantec Management console to administrate our patch enviroment. We have windows updates disabled. But our Windows 8 machines get this message once a month

You can turn off the message by GUI in Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center, in the right pane, click "Change Action Center settings", then untick the "Windows Update" option.
For GPO, you can disable all balloon notifications:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar\Turn off all balloon notifications
Or remove Action Center icon itself
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove the Action Center icon
And I haven't found a GPO to turn on\off a specific message mentioned in the action center, but the setting for the message is related with registry key under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks
but the value under the key is binary, hard to control, if you have interest, you can export the key from a preference pc, then deploy the GPO via
User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

When I select "plugin check" for updates, I have received a "try again later" error message for the last three days.

for the last few days, I've been experiencing long pauses or crashes while viewing a movie or clip using adobe flash. i've had no update requests for flash from auto updates. so my next thought was the flash plugin. however i'm not able to get the plugin updater to work. i get the error message listed above.

FCP X is loading and loading with the colour wheel revolving for ever for the past few days.

FCP X is loading and loading with the colour wheel revolving for ever, for the past few days.
FCP X was working fine in my new 15" Mac book pro (Retina display with Mountain Lion 10.8.2) for the past one month. Now a days, each time I try to open the FCP X, the same non-stop colour wheel is rotating, trying to restore one of my project. It continues even for hours together. Finally I am force quiting the application.
How do I come out of it ? Will I be able to recover my project. I didn't do any backup in particular.
Is backing up on the regular basis is required?
I tried the following guidance by Apple,
In the Finder, hold down the Option key and choose Library from the Go menu.
In the Library folder that opens, go to Application Support/Final Cut Pro.
Drag the Layouts folder from the Final Cut Pro folder to the Trash.

Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.5 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.5.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive.
For smooth playback without dropping frames, make sure 'Better Performance' is selected in the FCP X Preferences - Playback Tab.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.

If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install of the OS would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
If your playback in FCP X is not good, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
The downside of 'Proxy' is that it looks awful. DON'T use Proxy when you're assessing things like video quality - especially focus.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Personally, I work with XDCAM EX and h.264 from a Canon DSLR. Both of these run fine with my system, but I do transcode multicam clips.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.

Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.
If none of this helps, you might have incompatible or corrupt media or project files. Move ALL your Events and Projects to temporary folders so that FCP X doesn't find them on launch. If it launches OK, re-introduce the Events and Projects one at a time, re-launching each time, so that you can track down the corrupt or incompatible files.

For the last two days my PSE 12 hasn't been working at all. Been working perfectly for a couple of months since I got it. Now i keep getting 'Photoshop elements 12 has stopped working' messages and then it just closes. Ran it in compatibility mode. No better. Any ideas/help please?
I have seen that the uninstall/reinstall route is a posibility, but I can't find the Key Code i got with my copy, so not entirely sure I want to uninstall.

There a few things you could try. One, is to start up iTunes in safe mode by holding Shift-Control and the other option is to try opening in a new user on your computer. Check out the article below for more information and further troubleshooting.
