I frame ONLY MPEG2 video?

Adobe Media Encoder documention states that:
M Frames
Number of B frames (bi‑directional frames) between consecutive I frames (intra‑frames) and P frames (predicted frames).
N Frames
Number of frames between I frames (intra‑frames). This value must be a multiple of the M frames value.
This is great... but Media Encoder only allows the settings to go to 1, not 0...
With a M and N Frame setting of 1, and reading the documentation, I am expecting to have 1 B Frame between every I Frame.
Am I wrong? It reads as if a 1 frame M setting would allow 1 B frame...
and the 1 frame N setting would also allow for one frame between each I frame, which would be the B frame...
I need ALL I frames in my video!!
And where does the Closed GOP settings come into all this?
Maybe someone could give me the M N and GOP settings needed to create an all I Frame MPEG2 video?
I'd love an explanation on how to translate the settings since I can't specify "0 Frames" between I frames, only 1...
Thanks!!

The specs list mpeg 1,2 & 4. but when I called the company, the technician told me to use mpeg2 or .avi
My daughter can take a card out of a point and shoot still camera with video capability and it plays without a problem including sound.

  • HDV MPEG2 Video Playback in QuickTime - frame rate too fast!!

    Hello All,
    I'm having a very strange problem which just began this past week when I upgraded to QT 7.2 (darn me, I'm a video pro, I should have known better than to do this mid-project!). I am editing a film with HDV content: 1280 x 720 pixels, MPEG2 video (.m2v file type).
    I have the MPEG2 plugin for QT.
    When I open the file in QT Player, it plays the video almost 2.5 times faster than the audio, increasing the frame rate to do so. For example, if I view the Movie Properties for one particular file, and compare the sound track to the video track, it will claim that that the sound track has a duration of 7:03:24, whereas the video duration has a duration of 2:49:27. When watching the video, it plays it back too fast. When I import the file into Final Cut, the same "sped up" file is viewed.
    I think this is a QuickTime specific problem because I downloaded VLC Media Player (which can also open MPEG2 files) and it opened and played the same MPEG2 file perfectly and at the correct speed.
    I tried uninstalling and downgrading to QT 7.1.6 (and then re-installed OS 10.4.10) - but the problem still exists. So there must be something else that was installed in this QT update that I haven't been able to figure out that is causing this very weird problem.
    I'm at a standstill with my FCP project because all the files it refers to in my sequences use the same QT engine - so all my video files are playing back too fast. Yikes!
    Please can anyone help me or provide any insight, I'm happy to try anything or post more info.
    Thank you,
    Catherine
    P.S. I'm going to post a similar thread over with the FCP folks to see if they have heard of any similar problems.

    Sorry to dig up an old post, but I am having the same problem. Does anybody know a solution, it seems to occur on all MP2 movies, HD or not.

  • FCP X / Motion 5 Drop Zone Video Freeze Frames Only!

    Hmmm, well, I've followed the other discussions here regarding what appears to be an on-going issue with videos not playing (freeze frame only - usually the first frame of the clip) in a Drop Zone.  I'm using the latest versions of both FCP X (10.1.1) and Motion 5 (5.1).  I created a video generator in Motion with 15 drop zones for use in an open for a project I just started on.  These drop zones are sliding left and right in three bands across the canvas.  I can't get any of them to display moving video.  I've used drop zones before and had some success with getting video clips to play in them, but in this case I'm batting zero.
    Has anyone found a way around this problem?  I may just import the videos into Motion and render them there since this open more than likely won't ever be used for any other project; nevertheless, I'd like to be able to use the Motion 5 template as it was designed to be used.
    Thanks.

    The good news, Russ, is that I've made some progress!  To say that using Drop Zones can be a bit quirky is an understatement!  Nevertheless, your Pro Res hint seems to have fixed my issue.  I've been recutting the clips from the master archived files and saving them as Pro Res 422.  The file size is considerably larger that the H.264 files, but since it works I guess I won't argue that point!  :-)
    I need to do a bit more investigation of this next point, but it also seems as if I need to move a frame or three into the clip before inserting it into the drop zone.  I had just been taking the clip and dumping it in as is.  When doing that I noticed that in some cases the clip either didn't play (freeze frame) or it started at some random (or at least what seemed to be random) location within the clip.  However, since I moved the start point in 2 or 3 frames (end point doesn't seem to matter) so far, at least, the clip plays every time and starts from the proper point.
    I don't know if this mattered or not, but I completely deleted the library with the project and event that I was originally trying to edit to.  Since it wasn't working anyway there is nothing lost and I felt it was worth starting the project "fresh", so to speak.
    So far I've only re-clipped and inserted 5 of the 15 drop zone videos but for now, at least, they are all working!
    Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

  • Generic standard definition Mpeg2 video in FCP

    Hi guys,
    I am trying to make a software wrapper to wrap Mpeg2 422 I-Frame only 720x480 29.97i video in Quick Time container file format. However, the video encoder I am using does not do D-10 (IMX). What compressor name/code can I use for generic standard definition mpeg2? The output .MOV need to be decoded properly in FCP.
    Actually I've tried to use HD compressor code 'xd5b' and it seems no problem to be imported into FCP X. Nevertheles, I afriad there could be some decoding issue in actual editing process because of possible incorrect color mapping (different in HD and SD)

    No sure what all that means but for optimal performance in FCPX you'd want to recompress into ProRes which you can easily do with Compressor or MPEG Streamclip.

  • Please help! i need to make multiple custom shaped frames for different videos in one scene and cant work out how!

    hi there!
    im really stuck on this and cant work it out i hope you guys can help! i have been trying to make a single shot or scene whatever you want to call it with multiple videos playing all at the same time in it but i want them all to have their own custom shape. i know that i can just put them together into one frame and play them at once but they are all the original rectangle shape they where filmed in and i could put a mask over each one to make it a circle but i want to make each one a custom shape for example if you where to make a face out of 4 videos and one was the shape of the main part of the face one was the eyes one for the hair and one for the mouth now i would have to make the shape of each video the right shape for the corresponding body part then place them on top of each other and then i would have a face made from looping videos. i cannot work out how to make the frames of each video a custom shape after searching tutorials please can someone help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as it is a collage project. thanks very much for your time in the matter Josh.

    ok thanks yea thats helped alot im new to this so thats why it seems basic to you but not me. i have tryed to find out through tutorials but could work it out. im now able to do this but i want to draw my mask free hand and it seems you can only place points with the pen tool? is this the only way to make the shape of my mask? or example in photoshop which i know well i can use a paint brush and paint any shape i want to make a mask but i cant see how to do that in after effects? any help on this would be greatly appreceated. thanks josh

  • Strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image

    hello all,
    got a strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image,
    menu size is 1920 x 1080 (photoshop file)
    mpeg2 video 1920 x 1080 (1second 19 frames)
    the idea is to go from the menu link to the next sub menu with a video as transition, using the same image on the video as the menu and then zooming in (in my case through a door) to end up after the zoom in the next level menu.
    I try to achieve a smooth change from the first play menu picture to the video image into the next level menu picture,
    everything works good but when I watch it on the preview mode on the left and right side of the video it shows a black bar at least 15 to 25 pixel wide, that means the video image appears smaller and it causes a little jump what is preety disturbing and can not be sold as a professional work.
    why encore treats the video size and picture differently?
    it's gratful appreciated if somebody who got experience in a transition I mentioned obove posting any solution,
    thankl you all

    Hi all
    I'm having a very similar problem with Encore. My menu items are distorting (a minor but infuriating squashing top and bottom) when previewed.
    Using Encore,PS,AE CS4
    DVD format SD PAL DV widescreen
    I created 3 menu frameworks and 3 video transistions to link them in AE. On the final frame of each transistion in AE I saved the frame with Composition>Save Frame to> Photoshop Layers. In PS i added the button functionality and saved.
    In Encore I use Dynamic link to import AE transistions as timelines and imported each PS menu twice, once as "menu" and once as an asset.
    When I link the timeline transistions to the menu and preview at the point the menu begins the whole image is squashed. When the next transistion is activated the image returns to its original size.
    Thinking it was the use of PS that was causing the menus to distort I used the menu asset directly in the time line. Obviously no menu functionality but also no distortion. The AE transistion flowed straight into the "menu" just as I expected.
    In the properties panel the menu Aspect Ratio 16:9
    The AE transistions PAR is SD PALwidescreen 1.4587.
    I did try the Blu Ray suggestion above but the same distortion was apparent.
    Any suggestions short of squashing the video to match the menu would be welcomed.
    Thanks

  • MPEG2 Video is not smooth in Quicktime Pro Player

    I have a MBP with Core2 2.4Ghz (2GB RAM, 250GB SATA HDD).
    I have a bunch of mpeg2 files downloaded from my Canon HV20 HiDef camcorder. When I play the files with Quicktime Pro with MPEG2 Component, the video looks very very jerky. The CPU usage is not too bad, all other applications behave OK.
    On the other hand, if I use VLC to play the same file, the video is lot smoother. CPU usage is roughly the same.
    FYI, the video is 1080i.
    Can someone suggest some solution? My problem is, I want to watch these videos from Frontrow and VLC is not a solution.
    The video plays fine in Windows XP, Vista and even in Linux in any player I tried so far.
    This is really killing me, any solution is appreciated. I definitely do not want to go back to Windows for my media.
    Message was edited by: vrkiran

    Quicktime does play DVDs OK. Its not as smooth as VLC, but very acceptable.
    However, my MPEG2 video files are Hi-definition files from Hi-definition camcorder. These are 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced) files.
    These files play perfectly smoothly on the same Mac when I use VLC player.
    When I use Quicktime player, they are very jerky. Its hard to quantify how jerky it is, but just a naked eye guess would be 2 frames out of 5 are vanishing. Sound is smooth though, no hiccups in sound.
    I hope that describes my problem better.

  • I-Frame Only MPEG in premiere pro cc

    please help........ I dont have I-Frame Only MPEG preview file format in sequence settings. It is set to Microsoft AVI. I want to set it to I-Frame Only MPEG.

    Start here;
    Get Started with Premiere Pro
    New to Premiere Pro? Get started with your first project — editing a video. In less than an hour, you'll learn to edit together different types of media to tell a video story.

  • Project will not render with 'I-Frame only MPEG'

    Hey Adobe, I am posting this at your request.
    I previously used to have an old Intel Core2 chip system.
    I upgraded this so that my video editing life would be faster.  I have a new motherboard, with a new intel I7-4770 @ 3.5Ghz chip. same memory (16Gb-1600), graphics card, hard disk, DVD drive, etc..
    On the Core2 system, video projects which I worked on all worked fine. I mainly use a Sony Z5 to shoot video which creates .M2T files.
    On my old system, running Premiere CC it ALL WORKED - no problems, but on the new build, it crashes EVERYTIME i try to render, with 'Error Compiling Movie - Unknown Error'
    Having spent FOUR hours on the phone to your tech supports in India, they came up with a workaround. I stress - it's a workaround, not a solution.
    They found that if i changed the sequence to be 'Custom' and then selected 'Microsoft AVI' (and any Codec, doesn't matter which) as the Preview File Format  instead of 'i-Frame Only MPEG' then yes - it renders.
    The tech told me that this was because 'M2T' files were fussy, and needed to be treated like this.
    WRONG!
    if this *needed* to be the case, then why did it work previously on my old system without any problem?
    Also, if I take a project that crashes on my desktop PC, and copy it over onto my laptop, de-activate Premiere on my desktop and activate on my laptop and run in on there .. IT RENDERS FINE, using the 'I-Frame Only MPEG' setting.
    Also, i shot some video with a Nikon D5100 which produces full HD .MOV clips, *AND THE SAME PROBLEM STILL OCCURS* when rendering on my desktop PC, and only renders when i switch the Preview File Format to be 'Microsoft AVI - so it's not related to the .M2T video file type.
    So I can render stuff, but ultimately it's a workaround and not a solution, as when I am finished with a project, and want to archive it off I do so by exporting and choosing 'Match Sequence Settings', with with Microsoft AVI selected, it wants to therefore obviously export it as an AVI, which i do not want - I want to export it as 25mbps MPEG which is the original quality/format that it was shot at.  When i try and do this with 'i-Frame Only MPEG' selected as the sequence type - you've guessed it, Media Encoder crashes
    So.  Why does i-Frame Only MPEG work on one machine (my laptop), but on my main machine (desktop) which i want to use, it doesn't? What piece of software/codec/file am I missing?
    - i have installed from clean build of Windows
    - i have deactivated and reactived Premiere CC
    - i have uninstalled Premiere CC and reinstalled it
    - i have uninstalled all Cloud CC programs and reinstalled them
    - I have run CC cleaner too
    - I have the latest video drivers for my graphics card (it is the same graphics card that worked just fine on my old system anyway, so is not the issue)
    - I have full Windows/Admin permissions. it is not a permissions problem
    please don't suggest any of those options.  None of them work.  I need someone who understands your software and knows what i-Frame only MPEG is to be able to tell me why it isn't working on my system.  I am now past the point of anger (because i have lost several days worth of worktime - and thus money) and being upset (because it's massively frustrating when somthing that previously worked now doesn't), and am now just at the point of being bewildered that no one there can seem to tell me what is going on here, and how to solve it.
    Many thanks,
    Geoff.

    I have to put in my 2 cents...and first of all I'm sorry things are happening that are not FANTASTIC results... etc... but there may be ways to make things better... but this stuff is complicated and extremely computer intensive ( math stuff with cpu and ram and stuff ) .. so the platform is very critical to best results.. not just the software.
    There's books on compression and how that stuff works ( lossless or not ) and it's all about changes from frame to frame and how to best make file size smaller while keeping every single pixel perfect in each frame... and this is unfortunately not standardized on planet earth. Different companies make up what they can to sell cameras and recording medium and so on..  there are some standards ( for broadcast and movies etc ) cause at some point some groups have to deal with delivery to PEOPLE to watch stuff.. and have decent quality to watch...
    In general this is very complicated and full of problems cause there is no single work flow , and probably never will be .
    What Jeff is talking about ( I think ) is that during the process of a computer program interpreting images ( frame by frame ) those pixels that have not changed a lot are described in a line of code by the software that says, " This stuff has not changed much if at all ".  Some stuff from one frame to the next one DID change a lot ( someone walking or someone running.. the running changes more fast ) .. and so lines of code say ,  " this stuff changed a LOT "....
    During the process of the software to determine what changed and how MUCH changed.. is complicated.. cause the program basically looks at frame A and then Frame F and notes the changes of pixels... and THEN ( as if that wasn't complicated enough ) the program then goes BACK  to frame A and then ahead to frame J ... so now it has expanded it's look at what changes have occurred...
    Now the ' CODEC " ( the specific codec used by the program you are running , like CC or avid or FCP ) is going to make it's best GUESS as to what really changed that matters the MOST to the image...so you basically get a nice image from A to J ..... but it is now compressed and taking up less room on your hard drive and ram etc....cause it is interpreting the image changes... and so on...
    So if you had every single frame without any guess work and no compression to save space cause those pixels did not change between A and J .... you would have HUGE FILES .... and no benefit in terms of being able to edit anything on a little home desktop computer... even if you have a really powerful one.. it is not going to be good enough to do that stuff....
    It would be unfair to say that adobe isn't doing the best they can to accomodate all the camera manufacturers " codecs " and give the best results they can , with a million different computer platforms and hardware out there you can buy off the shelf ....
    The I frames and B frames and other frames have to do with the " guessing game " of changes in pixels, changes with every " action " in those ranges of frames, and is very complicated... but there are books about it and what standards exist can be researched and studied if you're into that stuff....
    I am an idiot about this stuff but the main thing is dont give up.. and just try to be patient when things dont work out like you thought they would, and figure out what is going on so you can make things work the way you want...
    and good luck !

  • Extraction Key Frames from a video

    Hi all,
    I would like to know what is the best way to extract keyframe from a video.
    My Status (butr I can cahnge it)
    I'm Marco and I'm using JMF; I need for an help because I don't know how to extract keyframes from AVI and MPG files.
    I'm using the code posted in this forum for extracting all frame in a video with the adding of an if expression that in the accessFrame method that I report below:
    void accessFrame(Buffer frame) {
    BufferToImage stopBuffer = new BufferToImage((VideoFormat) frame.getFormat());
    Image stopImage = stopBuffer.createImage(frame);
    try {
    BufferedImage outImage = new BufferedImage(size.width, size.height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Graphics og = outImage.getGraphics();
    og.drawImage(stopImage, 0, 0, size.width, size.height, null);
    Iterator writers = ImageIO.getImageWritersByFormatName("jpg");
    ImageWriter writer = (ImageWriter) writers.next();
    File f = new File(frame.getSequenceNumber() + ".jpg");
    if ((frame.getFlags() & Buffer.FLAG_KEY_FRAME) != 0){{color}
    {color:#ff9900}
    ImageOutputStream ios = ImageIO.createImageOutputStream(f);
    writer.setOutput(ios);
    {color:#ff9900}
    writer.write(outImage);
    ios.close();}
    } catch (IOException e) {{color}
    System.out.println("Error :" + e);
    So, I'm able to extract some keyframe, but i'm not sure it is the correct way and my dubt grows out of the fact that without the if expression highlighted in red, it seems that I have more keyframes (those ones with flag ==1040). Another problem is that it works only with AVI because MPG instead of 1040, they have alternate sequence of 32 and 1056.
    Cheers and thank u
    Marco

    >
    With the code yoodleyee posted, frames can be extracted and converted from the raw decoded format into images, but no guarantee that the frame extracted is a key frame, isnt it?Actually, there is such a guarantee...because the FrameGrabbingControl isn't implemented in any video format that uses keyframes. So, if it works, then every frame of the video is a keyframe, and it won't work otherwise.
    How can key frames be detected with JMF and then extracted with the code provided? Any tutorial or sample code about that?They can't be. You can write a custom codec that will give you access to every frame, regardless of the format, if you're wanting to get all of the frames.
    Example: [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/FrameAccess.html]
    But JMF doesn't have any way of dealing with key frames directly, at least that I am aware of.

  • Capture JPEG from MPEG2 video file

    Hello friends,
    I want to extract a single JPEG image from a mpeg2 video file. The user input will be the number of seconds since the start of video when the image should be captured
    e.g. if the user input is 5, the program should capture the frame which comes after 5 seconds of playing the video file and convert it into a jpeg.
    Please note that I do not actually want to play the video in a player but do this task of seeking into the video file programatically
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I have a jpeg movie file 60 mins long and a text file tell me five time-lines for breaking the movie. For example, break the movie at 10:21, 16:05
    The final output should be five small jpeg movie files. Each file contains a 90 sec (30 sec before the break time and 60 sec after the break time).
    Do you know any java library (jar) contain the library that can help me on programming this? Any existing source code? Any SDK for a movie editor can do that?
    Please help.
    Thanks

  • I frame only 4:2:2 encoding settings?

    Hi
    Can someone please tell me the AME setting to create an MPEG-2 Program Stream with the following specs?

    Video Size: 720 x 576
    50 Mbps CBR I frame only

    PS. FYI, these are the SD (PAL) video specs for AdStream UK digital delivery service.

    Thank you for the MediaInfo tip.
    I have downloaded and run the file I created. Details are below but I am not sure where I should read 'I-Frame Only'? The entire broadcast industry uses that term but for some reason neither Adobe nor MediaInfo mentions anything about it? Also, how can I produce 4:2:2 instead of 4:2:0 as I produced?
