I get 3 messages in console every 10 seconds

A few days ago, i noticed a process running in my task manager. Something along the lines of, "Seagate data manager". The reason it was there is because my friend installed some software that would let us use his Seagate hard drive (it would not work on a mac without it). I was annoyed that this process was running on start-up years later when i did not need it any more. I searched though my Mac and found no apparent way to uninstall it, so i decided to find every file that had the word "seagate" and delete it. Probably not my brightest moment, i know, and technically it worked. I dont see the process running any more, but now i am seeing the fruits of my stupidity as i get these 3 messages in console every 10 seconds from what i think is my Mac trying to launch the process, but cant find the files that i deleted. I deleted 2 files. I cant remember exactly what they were called or where they were from. I think one was from "Macintosh HD > Library" and the other was from "Macintosh HD > System". I know that one of the files had the icon that looks like a little white Lego piece (see attachment called "icon").
Is there anything i can do?
here is what console says:

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
Step 4
ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

  • Not getting any messages at console (Developer studio)

    hi all,
I am doing a web application project.
Here i created a java bean class for the database connections etc..
I created WAR file and EAR files also. Deploy to J2EE Engine is successful.
I created jsp file as front end to insert the values into the Database. When i'm running the web page i didn't get any messages (System.out.println()) in the console.
How can i start the server in the Developer studio?
    Please guide the steps....
    Thanks,
    Raghu

    Hi,
As far as i know when u deploy your ear in the J2EE engine it will be available.. You dont have to start any server.
IF u have a JNDI name you can direct lookup the bean.
And about system.out.println we cant see the ouput in webpage ! Try response.getWriter().println()......
Elobarate on ur scenario .. and it will be easier to help !
    Regards

  • Getting strange messages on console

My new external HD suddenly began running continually.  Curious, I opened the console and am getting this message repeated over and over and over:

I ejected the drive, shut the computer down, waited a bit, pressed the power button and held for 5 seconds then released it.  Pressed it to start, got the tone and then did the CMD-OPT-P-R thing.  Plugged the drive back in and it's off and running again.
This drive is a 3TB LaCie Porsche which I partitioned into 2 segments.  One for extra backups and the other to use with Carbon Copy Cloner.  It has been fine until about two days ago when it just decided to spin its wheels indefinitely.
I'm wondering if my iMac is using it to write logs to since there's so much room there and my internal HD is about maxed out.  I just checked and there's only 18GB available on that drive.
    anyone?

    Solved!!!
I found an old discussion that said to delete any references to unwanted applications from
                /library/launchdaemons
                /library/launchagents
In my case, there were a couple of Adobe files from when CreativeStudio was installed.
    Removed the files.
    Emptied the trash.
    Rebooted.
    No more unwanted console messages...YAY!

Further, 1 external Hard-Disk died during my holidays. (Not used whole equipment for 3 weeks.)
The Disk has been replaced today and works fine.
    What I tried today:
    - remove any item connected to the iMac except the keyboard and the mouse
    - PRAM-reset
    - reboot with drives attached
    - reboot without drives attached
    - eject drives before restart
    - don't eject drives bevor restart
    - reboot with only firewire-drive
    - reboot with only usb-drives
Nothing happens, still the same error.
    any useful hints for me?
    Thanks!

When you reboot without any drives at all attached, do you get the same message?
Have you tried using Disk Utility?
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
When you're dome, repair permissions from the hard drive and see if that helps.

  • How can I get my phone to ring every 2 seconds?

I've looked and looked all over the internet and I have seen people with this problem but so far no solutions. I would like my bb8520 to function as any $20dollar phone would, which is to ring  every 2 seconds instead of every 10 seconds.
My phone rings, then 10 seconds later it rings again, by the time 10 more seconds have gone by, the caller either hangs up or is sent to voice mail. If you miss the first ring, hear the second but take a little while to find or reach your phone, you miss the call.
Is there any way I can decrease the time between rings??  I really hope someone has a solution besides contacting the carrier. The caller usually hears about 8 to 10 rings before it goes to voice mail, so it is not a carrier issue. The problem is for me, not for my caller.
I have already changed the profiles every which way, you can only change the number of vibrations, but not the rings. My only solution so far has been to program a song as a ringtone so it lasts longer, but I prefer a regular ring ring.
I'ts incredible that RIM hasn't been able to make this easy.
By the way, my other issue I had is that it wouldn't vibrate and ring simultaneously, but I solved that downloading buzz me.

about vibrating and ringing at the same time, provided you upgrade the OS on your device from 4.x to 5.0 then this option will be available without requiring to install a third party application like BuzzMe.
About the ringing, if you are not pleased with the current ring you are using you can of course change it to another. For example of of the series which name starts with Ringer_BBPro_ . It will ring every second.

  • I keep getting the message come up every month or so. Especially after I've just download a lot of new tracks. The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?

I know how to get my old library back - but I want this to stop coming up time and time again. My Mac won't allow me to down load the lastes iTunes software. What do I do?

this just started w/ me yesterday.  I was running 10.5.3, and nothing changed - the message just appeard out of nowhere.  I update to the latest iTunes 10.6 but the message is the same.
Sounds like probably some sort of Library file corruption.
The two options available in the message box are "Download" and "Quit".  Download is useless because I'm already running the latest.  Quit is pretty useless.
I was going to just create a new Library and re-import all my music.  Of course, all my iPhone sync settings are going go have to be recreated.

  • In Console every 10 seconds: "FireWire GUID ffffffffffffffff is invalid!"

    Subject says it.
Any ideas on what this is all about?
    FireWire GUID ffffffffffffffff is invalid!

    Which Mac?
Have you tried resetting the FW bus?
Information on resetting the bus can be found in the 5 steps listed here.

  • Repeating Message in Console.  Can you tell me what this means?

Hello. I am receiving this repeating message in console every 10 seconds and I think it's the result of a application that I once had that I removed many months ago and apparently I'm being pinged or something. How can I get rid of this?
I had at one time a wireless Nikon digital camera wireless software installed that I've removed but apparently something somewhere in my mac is trying to communicate with Nikon...in Japan! Does this look right? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

There is still a piece of the software that is trying to startup, but cannot. launchd is the daemon in charge of starting things and trying to make sure they keep running. It is not trying to contact Japan--certain files are named in reverse domain name format.
Try looking in a StartupItems folder or the LaunchDaemons folder in you user Library or the main Library folders.

  • Console Messages - Every 10 seconds

I recently checked the Console Messages for my system and notice the following messages being posted every 10 seconds:
    com.apple.launchd[1] 1 Warning (org.xinetd.xinetd439) Exited with exit code: 1
com.apple.launchd[1] 1 Warning (org.xinetd.xinetd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
    com.apple.launchd[1] 1 Error (org.xinetd.xinetd440) posix_spawnp("xinetd", ...): No such file or directory
    Is this normal?
If not how should I go about troubleshooting the cause of these messages.
I am a recent convert to Apple and OS X and not familiar with the terminology.
    Can anyone help?

launchd is the system process responsible for launching (and relaunching) other system or background processes that your system needs to function correctly. It knows to do this based on lots of configuration files, each of which describes a unique process for launchd to monitor. Most of these configuration files are kept in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/. You can take a look at some of them if you're curious -- they're just XML and usually pretty short.
xinetd is another program/process/daemon (all these words are basically synonymous) that behaves very much like launchd. xinetd, however, is not created by Apple, but is an open source piece of software. OS X, pre 10.4, used to use xinetd to perform the actions now being done by launchd. As of 10.4, launchd replaced xinetd.
For whatever reason on your system, launchd is trying to start xinetd. Odd. Have you recently installed something, perhaps via Mac Ports or Fink or something like that?
Making this message stop is not overly difficult, since all you need to do is tell launchd to disable it as a service it monitors. This is easy to do from the command line, but since you're a new Mac user maybe that's not so simple An easier (i.e. graphical) way to accomplish the same thing is to download and install Lingon:
    http://lingon.sourceforge.net/
This will allow you to browse these launchd configuration files and make changes to them. Via this program, you can disable xinetd and you should see those console messages stop.

  • Console Message Every 10 Seconds

Can anyone help me understand why this message is being repeated in Console every 10 seconds throughout the day:
9/3/09 6:20:54 PM WDDriveManagerStatusMenu[223] * attempt to pop an unknown autorelease pool (0x838800)

I also emailed WD, here is my response dated 11/9/2009:
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is Aristides
That software is still under beta phase related to that O/S. Besides that it is should work without any issues.
I hope that we have met your expectations today and that you are satisfied with our service. If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.
    Sincerely,

Probably need to keep checking WD support site for updated WD Drive Manager. I like being able to turn-off my Studio II using the power button. Can't do it without WD Drive Manager.
I also noticed that the error message occur much less frequent when the drive is ejected.

  • Amavis is logging error messages every 10 seconds

    Hello,
I noticed today that amavisd started to report error messages to the console log every 10 seconds as follows:
    4/13/10 9:25:26 AM org.amavis.amavisd[617] Can't send SIG 0 to process [62]: Operation not permitted at /usr/bin/amavisd line 11203.

    4/13/10 9:25:26 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.amavis.amavisd) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
This block of messages repeats itself every 10 seconds.
This began after I restarted the server after it apparantly crashed last night. Otherwise, there were no changes to the system.
Running Leopard Server 10.5.8 on an intel mac mini.
I am wondering how to stop this?

Found the following blog post at Geek Foibles which solved the problem:
+AMAVISD NOT STARTING AFTER RESTARTING MAC OS X SERVER+
    +February 6, 2009, 4:31 am+
+Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: amavisd, bug, mac os x server, mail, spam filtering+
+I had a recent spot of trouble with Mac OS X Server for a client who has mail services running. Due to a hardware issue I had to force off the server, but when I started it back up I noticed that while Postfix would accept mail from senders, it wouldn’t actually deliver it to the destination mailbox. Instead, I’d get this message in mail.log:+
    +postfix/error[7063]: 56118A83885: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=4776, delays=4776/0/0/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused)+
+The complaint that it wasn’t delivering mail due to an inability to connect to the local host suggested some sort of mail filter not running, of which there are two on Mac OS X Server: clamav (used for virus scanning) and amavisd (used for spam filtering). In my case it was easy to narrow it down, since clamav wasn’t enabled. I checked amavis.log and found that it hadn’t been updated since I’d restarted, so it seemed clear it wasn’t launching. By looking in system.log I could see launchd was trying to start it repeatedly since it was enabled in Server Admin, but it kept failing:+
    +Feb 5 23:59:36 hq org.amavis.amavisd[5404]: Can't send SIG 0 to process [68]: Operation not permitted at /usr/bin/amavisd line 11203.+
    +Feb 5 23:59:36 hq com.apple.launchd[1] (org.amavis.amavisd[5404]): Exited with exit code: 1+
    +Feb 5 23:59:36 hq com.apple.launchd[1] (org.amavis.amavisd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds+
+It was trying to kill process 68, which in my case was kadmind. This didn’t make sense since kadmind deals with Kerberos, something spam filtering has nothing to do with. Fortunately amavisd is a Perl script and it was giving me the line number, so I was able to open it and hunt down the offending code. I found that when amavisd starts, it looks to see if there’s already a PID file (located at /var/amavis/amavisd.pid), gets the PID out of that file and then tries to kill said PID. So, if another copy of amavisd is already running when you start it, it kills the old one so that they don’t conflict. Problem is, in my case the PID file was stale: it hadn’t been cleaned up after amavisd’s last run since I’d had to force off the system, and now the PID was in use by another, unrelated process that it doesn’t have permission to kill.+
+amavisd does check to see if the PID file was created before the last system startup, which would allow it to ignore stale PID files, but it only does this after trying to kill the old process. This bug was fixed in December in version 2.6.2 of amavis, but unfortunately for Mac OS X Server users, Apple uses version 2.5.1 from May of 2007.+
+Removing the stale PID file resolved the issue. Its removal allowed launchd’s next automatic attempt to start amavisd to succeed, then a few minutes later Postfix’s mail queue manager started being able to deliver all the mail queued during the downtime to the appropriate mailboxes.+
