I guess another person with RAM problems

I'll start from the very beginning. I ordered the rest of my new comp two weeks ago, Neo Platinum and 3200+ newcastle. I finally recieved them the thursday after I ordered them and built it that night. For RAM, because of the 754 only having 3 RAM slots I traded 2 Apacer 3200 256MB sticks for one Corsair XMS 3200 512MB and included with it 2 Infineon 3200 128MB sticks. It succesfully posted. So I went to install XP on a formatted HDD, which took 4 different copies. The first was having many corrupted files and and so I went on to a copy of home which also had trouble loading and BSOD a few times, then another copy of pro and finally the last copy of pro, which BSOD many times, including during installation so I had to redo it, though it eventual was installed. The first two times it started up it gave me a BSOD on stratup though the third went fine. The next restart it BSOD'ed only once and it was this way for a few more restarts. It would also BSOD when changing things in programs such as resolution and mozilla firefox would crash very very often. I noticed that the two infineon sticks were causing the clockrate to go down to 333Mhz and took them out, though I still had general instability it was better than nothing while I tried to figure it out. A few days later I asked a friend and he imediatly said RAM, he thought it was the clockrate not syncing right. I checked and it was 200Mhz, no problems there. Later I made a post about this and asking for my RAM timings to be evaluated, somebody mentioned using Memtest86 if I had any problems with RAM. That night I let it go and in 7 hours it had 14000 errors, 300 errors each retest. I swaped in the infineon RAM and got only a few errors each time, so I tried to see which stick was not working. Both would go fine when alone but there were still a few errors each time I tried both at the same time. I was using slot 1 when only testing one stick, and slot 1 and 2 when testing two sticks. So the expensive Corsair RAM was always getting lots of errors and the infineon got a few errors but always on slot 2, so I thought that it was bad and I got an RMA number from newegg.com. I then had a friend with a p4 come over and I tested the RAM on his computer and it all worked fine, including the RAM which got over 300 errors each test, so I was sure it was my motherboard, but I still traded him back his Corsair for my 2 Apacer, which I put in alone, slots 1 and 2. I was curious and ran memtest86 again last night and got no errors at all, for 7 hours. So the cheap Infineon erros, but only slot #2, the expensive Corsair errors a lot, but only on my motherboard, and the cheap Apacer doesn't error at all. So is this the same problem everybody else has had? Should I keep my motherboard, or should I RMA it? I really don't want to be without a computer for 7-10 days. Will it stay stable now or when I plan on getting some a Gig of nice RAM in the future, will I get the same errors?

Help 645E Ultra with RAM problem

Hi, This is the first time I tried to build a system. I just bought a 645E ultra/MS 6547 Ver2 MoBo, a CPU P4 2,4/533 and RAM one stick DDR 512MB PPNY PC2700 /333. I cannot get the system running. It hangs at the memory detection test (according to the Led D Bracket). I also tried DDR Spectec 256MB PC 2100 /266, but with the same result. A friend brought his Samsung PC 2700 256MB Ram, and it worked on my board. I tried mentioned 256MB Spected Ram on his system and it also worked OK. So any idea what the problem can be and how to fix?? Is there a compatibility problem with RAM? Thanks, Velti

I temp used memory from a friend and ordered new memory from Crucial (the memo they advice for my MoBo). I received the new memory from Crucial and it works fine :P . The "old" memory sticks that did not worked on my MoBo work fine on other MoBo's, so this MoBo is very, very picky on RAM. 2 out of 4 brands did not work although they work perfectly on other MoBo's.

Another user with publishing problems -- proof that it is .Mac related

Just before Christmas I started getting the dreaded "Publish Error: There was an error updating .Mac" message every time I published. I read all the previous posts, even the ones dating back to October. I think I can conclusively show that the problem is on the .Mac backend, and not at all on my computer. Here is what I did: first, I created a temporary .Mac account; second, I moved my Domain file for safe keeping and did not replace it; third, I logged into the Guest User account that is now available in Leopard. I then attempted to publish a single page website from iWeb from both my normal login and the guest login to both my normal .mac account and the temporary one. (To switch between .Mac accounts I used the system preferences panel when iWeb was not running). The results are as follows:
.......................Regular .Mac.......Temporary .Mac
Normal Login..Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
Guest Login.....Publish Failed......Publish Succeeded
This tells me that there is no problem on my computer, or with my network connection, and the problem is squarely on the .Mac side of things.
I sent this message off to the standard help page, and got the standard form letter back. In reply I asked them to reset my .Mac account so it would appear "new". I'll see what they say.
It would be interesting to see how many other people with "publish" problems can repeat this test.

I've done what appears to be the standard littany of things:
1) Confirmed that I am running the latest version of iWeb (2.02) on 10.5.1 (although the problem persists when using my backup of 10.4.10 that includes the ilife update)
2) Changed my .Mac password, even though it was less than 20 characters
3) Published all of my previous website to the temp .mac (in chunks to avoid the space limitations)
4) Successfully published my site to a folder
5) Successfully uploaded that folder to my iDisk
6) Attempted to republish and republish all multiple times
7) Deleted iWeb's plist
8) rebooted
9) logged out and back into my .Mac account
10) confirmed that there is no password protection on my site
11) confirmed that there are no comments on my site
12) deleted assets.[membername].plist from the Domain file
13) Confirmed that my password in Keychain is correct
14) Run Keychain First Aid
15) deleted Sites.RSS from my iDisk
16) deleted the website and index.html from the iDisk
So, I have done a fair amount of ground work here, and am not just spouting off against Apple/.Mac. However, I still claim that the fact that I can successfully publish to a temporary .Mac account while the exact same iWeb content fails when being published to my normal .Mac account implies that there is something wrong with my .Mac account -- it is almost as if Apple is trying to eliminate its paying customers (since there are no problems with the free account).

Another person with yet another problem, JVC and iMovie '08

Ok, so I've downgraded my Quicktime to allow me to import my .MOD from my JVC Everio HD camera, and I can open them without a problem in Quicktime, but I cannot open them in iMovie '08. I just upgraded to a MBP with Leopard, and I can still use iMovie HD without a problem, but I cannot import any of the projects over or import any of the files into iMovie '08. Anyone know a solution to this? Or should I just write iMovie '08 off until I can manage to sell my expensive paper weight?

You probably have a Realtek/AC97 or other chipset, you could try the AC97 audio drivers at the following location: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/
If you don't have that audio device, supplying the dell model number or audio device name you see in device manager, would be helpful.

When i send an imessage to another person with imessage, my husband also receives the message, even though it was not sent to him. We have always been on the same itunes account and not had this problem, however, when i added the ipad, this started.

When I send an imessage on my ipad to someone, my husband also gets the message, even though he was not selected as a receipient. This just started when I got my ipad and sent a message for the first time. As a side note, my daughter received an itouch and both my husband and i were getting all messages she sent, no matter which one of us they were sent to. I turned her imessage off. We have all of our devices under the same itunes account so that we can share all music and apps. How can we get around this? I do not want him receiving all imessages that I send, this will get very annoying to him.

You can have a separate AppleID only for iMessage and keep using the other one for iTunes.
Just change the AppleID used for iMessage in Settings > Messages > Receive At

Another Question with RAM installation

Are you supposed to hear a clicking noise when you install the ram, because I didn't. I've read that you have to push extra hard to have the RAM fit in place perfectly, but I didn't have much trouble. The only problem I had was getting the middle screw of the L-bracket to go in. I got the two ends screwed in, but not the middle. However, I was able to get the battery in, and my Macbook reads the 2 GB. Should I go back to refit everything or should I just leave it?

There was not "click" when I installed mine. The chips are not held in with a clip, but by friction. That's why they are so darn hard to get in there.
I rocked mine in by pushing on the left side, then the right until my thumbs hurt. If the middle screw does not go in, then there is something wrong. Open it up and make sure that the foam isn't binding somewhere. I had to use a credit card to force it in.

Another User with HND Problems

I've just installed my WRT610N router today and used LELA for setup. When I went to set up HND I installed Network Magic as I found in instructions on the Linksys web site. I was able to do the initial setup of HND, however, when I went in latter to adjust settings, I received a notice that my subscription expired (I thought it was supposed to be 30 days, not about 30 minutes) and I was asked if I wanted to purchase it. Since I've only just begun trying to set it up, I wasn't sure if I wanted it yet, although it was the primary driver behind purchasing the new router. I still thought I should see if it met my needs to protect my kids while on the Internet. In any event, I did not purchase it at that time and I had to step away for a few hours to do something else. Upon returning I've tried to continue where I left off, but now I get the message that HND is registered to another account and it won't let me change the settings (at least it no longer asks me to purchase it while I'm still in the trial period).
I noticed on this forum that some people indicated they used LELA to configure HND so I uninstalled Network Magic and reinstalled LELA, but I cannot see any way to configure or control HND in LELA. I therefore reinstalled Network Magic and am still getting the same message. I have looked on the Linksys web site but don't see a link for live chat for support as some users have indicated they used, so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong either in trying to get support or trying to get HND configured.
This is a very frustrating set up process for a feature that will cost almost $60 to purchase and I'm also concerned that Linksys seems to push purchase of another $50 product (Network Magic Pro) to manage it. But right now, I'd just like to get HND configured so I can move forward with seeing if it will do what I need it to do.

I was able to get a live chat session with Linksys and they had me install the latest version of LELA. This version of LELA did have the ability to access the HND parental controls, however, now when I log in, it inidcates the license for HND expired on December 26, 2008. Since I recently purchased the router and installed it on 8/19/2009, I don't understand how the 30 day trial license could expire 8 months before I got the router.
A second session with live chat had me reset the router, which did not work (drastic last resort as I indicated to the chat support agent since it would require reconfiguration of the router to work again) I didn't think it would work as I believed the license information is in some account somewhere.
Can anyone help as I'd like to start testing HND to see if it will do what I hope it will and right now it does nothing.

Whenever I come directly to the discussion boards by typing in discussions.apple.com in Safari (1.3.2) address bar OR typing support.apple.com and then clicking the discussions link (in the purple bar) I'm greeted as guest. I click login and Safari helpfully fills in the details then several things happen (no pattern found yet).
1. I'm prompted for my login again and told the user name or password was wrong. It will then accept the next autofill by Safari. Forums function normally.
2. It greets me "Welcome Marlinespike" in the sidebar and prompts me to login again. Clicking any other link (e.g. My Questions, or iTunes) takes me to the forums and I'm not prompted again. Forums function normally.
3. It greets me "Welcome Marlinespike" in the sidebar and says "you only have read (or was it guest?) privileges and presents me with a page to create an account. Ditto 2 in that I can click anywhere and bypass the "please make an account".
The problem occurs every time I navigate to the forums home. If I leave SAfari running but close all windows, it'll happen.
I don't know if this is related to recently getting Safari 1.3.2. My Safari was 1.2 until last week. This login issue has only started for me in the past week. Also, I can click a link in the forums and will get a 404 not found error, but if I refresh the page (CMD-R), I get it.

FYI, since downgrading my OS back to X.3.8 and Safari to 1.2 I've not had any login difficulties yesterday or today. Also have not had any threads "not found" to be found upon refreshing. Perhaps there's some weird java thing going on with the forum logins that affects SAfari 1.3?

Another user with applet problems

I have a (should be simple) learning application that makes a window 400x400 pixels in size and fills it with random noise continuously. This works fine when run with the java command line, but when included in a html page I get these errors;

I'm new to the Java language and as I say this is based on an example file, so any cleanup recomendations are welcome (I think this is the most complicated way of setting pixels on a window I've ever seen!)

ok, I found the problem;
my Engine class only had an (int,int) constructor, and it seems the applet viewer doesn't like that. Adding an empty () constructor fixes it.
There are some new problems now, but I think I'll be able to solve them.

Driver issues *yes i know, another noob with diver problems*

So im not a total noob, I know my way around things. I have a centro that I cannot get synced. I have installed latest ver of hotsync and I am runnin XP pro (32 bit). When I hit the hotsync button it pops up multiple times asking me for the driver which seems to be non-existant for some reason. I dont know where my original disc is and I would love to get the cable working. As it stands now I can do pretty much everything though my SD card. it behaves the same as it does on my vista ultimate 64 bit install but I know that wont work with it. I do have ubuntu 64 bit installed on my desktop and ubuntu worked seamlessly with the software built in.

I would try a complete uninstall and then reinstall with the following procedure:
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.

Export a report from another page with parameter problems...can it be done?

I have used Dennis Excel pkg which works fine if on the same page... however, I want users to enter two dates in my items

I have manged to create a button that will execute the report on the second page without parameters
by choosing the redirect to url and this does work...
however, when i parameterize the url, it still works but does not send across the values
here is what i am using in the url

Another Newbee with Artwork Problems

All those weird % numbers at the beginning and elsewhere are causing the problem. Looks like whatever you copied the URL from used some kind of odd characters instead of : and \
Fix that and your artwork should show up in a few days.

I am receiving a connection error and can't send out yahoo e-mails. I can surf and use another browser with no problem what happened all of a sudden with my firefox?

I can't send out e-mails! I get a connection error message.
I can receive messages, surf the web via Firefox.
The only related thing to this occurrence is that I received a notice from Firefox recommending that I disable a Skype extension, which I did. Not sure if this is connected.

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: From address not verified - see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.
I had input the email address without the @verizon.net extension. That's exactly how I input it in the pop3 set-up for receiving e-mail and it works there.
So I went to the link that is referenced in the error message. It basically had me go to my Yahoo mail account page. I was directed to add an account with a different email address. A verification code was then sent to me via email that I then had to input into the new account's setup page in order to activate my Yahoo mail for smtp use. Once I input the code and validated I was then able to send e-mails just fine with Thunderbird. I was able to use my @verizon.net email address and not the new account I had created.
Bottom line - I had to activate/validate my account before I could send email. I had not read about this anywhere when trying to figure out what was wrong.

How to stop a person with dexterity problems accidentally deleting iTunes/music content

My husband has a tremor and we think he has accidentally deleted some audio books. Not sure how but can this sort of thing be avoided?

Thanks for the reply, my problem is deleting content accidentally from iTunes, do you think the iTunes restriction will help? I have set it now anyway to see and the accessibility motor skills one too but the little circle has disappeared now!!! No doubt will get to grips....
