I have 2 Macbook Pros. One is a mid 2010, the other is mid-2012. I'm upgrading my 2012's memory which will free up the two 4GB ram chips in the machine. Can I use those chips to replace the two 2 GB chips in the 2010 Macbook Pro?

By upgrading my MacBook Pro mid 2012 computer to 16 GB I will have 2 - 4GB Ram chips unused. Can I put those 2 - 4GB chips into my MacBook Pro 2010 computer to replace the 2 2GB chips that are installed in that, which would upgrade its memory also.

You can install them but they will not work. The RAM specifications for those two models are different.
The 2010 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
The 2012 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

My daughter and I both have iphones. I created an account (not separate itunes) for her on my computer so she could sync her phone/itunes but not have it interfere with mine since we have WAY different taste in music. Creating a different computer profile should work if you have separate itunes accounts, too.
If you all use the same itunes account, you can turn on Home Sharing. That way you can all download the same content without having to pay for it again. Not sure how or if that works with separate itunes accounts.

As far as we know, Time Machine cannot write to a disk image. It needs to write directly to the Time Capsule disk.

Make sure the iPad fully synced back up to your computer after the installation. The apps were removed as part of installing 5.0, and should be restored back to it as you finish. Connect the iPad to your computer that you backed up to, and sync it again. If they don't come back, go to the Apps page (click on your iPad under Devices, then Apps) and click the ones you want to sync. You could also restore to the backup you made right before the update.

Yes, but you are very likely to get in trouble very quickly.
The problem is that TimeMachine saves multiple versions of any file modified, and if that file happens to be large, you can quickly fill up your TimeMachine drive such that it is throwing away older versions faster than you would desire.
Also if your boot drive's storage usage gets even close to the 250GB external drive's capacity, TimeMachine is likely to stop working.
If possible, I would suggest an external drive that is twice as large as your boot drive, or at least 1.5 times larger.
I guess you could repartition your boot drive so it is smaller than your external disk so you would be less likely to use more space than could fit on the external.
Personally, my opinion about backups is that much of my data is impossible to replace (family pictures, etc...), and spending money on backup hardware is a small price to pay for securing those memories. I also try to have it backup in more than one location in more than one way.

Check the "Purchases" page in the Mac App Store and see if there is a more recent version there already waiting for you.

Can I use render files to replace missing media in FCPX

I lost some media, but I still have render files. They are weird files that don't open in any other software and have no filename extensions. Can I use these existing render files to replace missing original media? Or maybe a better question is....what kind of files are these render files for FCPX?

I'm not sure at all but first things first. Try simple list of commands in shell :

Render -r sw file1;
Render -r sw file2;
Render -r sw file3;
Each command separated by semi-colon will be executed one by one.
Unless command 'Render' exits before finishing the rendering, the above shell script should do what you want.

What happens if I put a 2 gb and 4gb ram chips in my macbook?

I currently have 2X2gb ram sticks in my laptop and I now have an extra 4gb ram sticks which is identical to the 2gb(except its a 4gb, everything else is identical including manufacturer) that can from my mac mini which had a failure of the other stick. So, will I lose performance, keep the same or get a slight boost. Thanks.

Check the specifications for your computer here - http://support.apple.com/specs/ - simply enter in your serial number in the provided search area, and choose your computers specs. In the ram section, it should tell you if you require "matching" ram slick. Most computers do.

I am proposing to upgrade the 4GB RAM in my Mac Mini 2.5 GHz core i5, by replacing it with 2 x 8GB Crucial 'slots'. Will the performance be significantly better than if I upgrade with 2 x 4GB slots? Is it cost effective, is the question.

I 150% agree with dwb and woodmeister50 about WD hard drives. They are NOWHERE near the quality they should be. When you can get a Seagate for just a few dollars more, and they last years longer, NO ONE should buy a WD. I lost $25,000 worth of music and audiobooks on a six-week-old WD in 2007 and that was the last I'd ever buy from them. They REFUSED to warranty it with the ORIGINAL sales receipt from Bestbuy.
I have 16Gb of Crucial RAM in my Mini and here's what I've discovered.
You WON'T see "lightning fast" performance increases, becasue the Mini is pretty darned fast to begin with. What you WILL see is that when you're running RAM intensive apps like Photoshop or Parallels, other apps won't "bog down".
Quite frequently I find myself with less than half a gig of free RAM out of that 16. When it was only 8 I was at 100% nearly ALL THE TIME. When I only had the 4 it came with, it was always maxed out.

I tried to replace the 2 2GB chips with 2 4GB ones but it will only let me replace one and only in order. the deepest has to be the old 2 GB and then the outside one can be the 4 GB. If I try to install both 4GB chips it freezes on startup. The same if they are in the opposite order.

You may have a bad stick of new RAM.
Try only one of your 4 Gig sticks in the bottom slot and if it boots, then try the other stick, but only in the bottom slot. The idea is to test each stick individually.
