I have a iPod Nano 5 and recently got an ipad Mini.
I sync'ed the ipad with iTunes and now cannot sync the Nano.
Any thoughts or comments please?

Uninstall/Reinstall iTunes then try to rebuild the library.

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the iPod is not in iTunes. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is ituens purchases. The ipod is not a backup device.
Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.

Delete your iCloud account on the iPad 2, then he can follow the instructions to create his own iCloud account on it:

You can backup and sync your Touch at anytime, and after you get the iPad 2 you can set that up and sync with the tunes, etc, that are from the Touch. Be aware that not all apps can sync since there are some apps on the iPhone/iPods that are not available for the iPad series. Any that do not sync will have to downloaded in the iPad format.

Reset iPad settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:

Get a new charger. You could've bent it when you were charging your ipad so it doesn't work, or maybe apple just gave you a bad one . Just use your dad's charger for now.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
