I have a macbook pro and have just updated my itunes to the 10.5, it has been sitting on the 'software update' box for 2 and a half hours and only has about 3mm of space left that is not blue. Is it normal to take this long downloading this update? Help!

I have been sitting looking at the blue line almost finished for over 2 hours. It says Writing files... underneath and Installing 11 items above the blue box. What should i do? Is there a problem or is it just taking a long time?? Im trying to set up my new iphone 4S but cant until this itunes is updated!

You have 10.6 on that machine, I suggest you stick with it for performance, third party hardware and software reasons as long as possible.
Consider 10.8 (not 10.7) when it's released, because 10.7 and 10.8 will require a new investment in software and newer third party hardware as it requires newer drivers the old machines won't have. (forced upgrade because of software, really nice of them)

Far as your Safari problem do these things until it's resolved:
1: Software Update fully under the Apple menu.
2: Check the status of your plug-ins and update (works for all browsers) also install Firefox and see if your problems continue. You should always have at least two browsers on the machine just in case one fails.

There's no reason to install a smaller hard drive. In some cases, it may decrease performance.
Your MacBook Pro comes with a 5400 rpm hard drive, so what you can do is to install a smaller, 7200 rpm hard drive, so you will get a better performance. Any 2'5" SATA hard drive will work, but you can have a look at OWC for hard drives > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
HGST and Seagate hard drives have a good reputation, so you can purchase one of them

Bought a Mac Mini. at 18 day's old it started to lock up and not function. Took it in and they wiped and reinstalled it. Well at 24 day's old it's been sitting in the box not being used. First and last Mac for me. But can I get something for the junk?

If your Mini is anything less than six months old it would be running Lion, not 10.6.1, nor would it have been necessary to "reinstall the OS". Any help that anyone can provide is predicated on your system configuration so it's important.
If you are running Lion then boot your Mini while holding the D key. This will load Apple Hardware Test which will enable you to test your memory. "Mac approved" memory is sort of vague, and even memory that is allegedly designed to meet your Mini's specification may fail. There few reputable memory vendors.
"Apple installed" memory is more meaningful, and indicates Apple has tested it and guarantees its function. Otherwise all bets are off with a claim of "Mac approved". You will have to verify that yourself with Apple Hardware Test.
If your Mini was running, or ever ran OS 10.6.1 for that matter, it is close to three years old.
You must clear up these uncertainties before anyone can help.

You are in the worst scenario, because now you have to delete Windows 7 and get back OS X Mountain Lion. Next time you install Windows through Boot Camp, be very careful with the partitioning step, and follow the steps of this site > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf
To reinstall OS X Mountain Lion, follow these steps:
1. Hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your computer is starting to start in OS X Recovery, and open Disk Utility.
2. Select the hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the whole hard drive. Make sure that "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is selected next to "Format".
3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
4. After reinstalling OS X, follow the steps of the site above to install Windows 7 on the MacBook Air properly

I tried to back my iphone up to my computer and it deleted everything i had on my phone. I must not have done it right. Can someone explain how i can do it without it deleting everything on my phone?

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder and any pictures being synced from the old computer to the new computer.
If syncing contacts and calendars to the computer, copy them as well.
On the new computer, simply sync. iTunes may wipe the device but as everything is now on the new computer it is a no e issue. Simply setup syncing as desired.
Honestly though, I've moved my ENTIRE iTunes folder between my laptop and desktop multiple times and never had an issue syncing.

Yeah the default program for installing Applications somehow got changed from the proper program to Terminal.
Right click on the App .DMG file and select Open With. It should say DiskImageMounter.App. If it says Terminal then select Other, at the bottom of the list, and then find DiskImageMounter.app.
Or after you right click on it select Get Info thenn in the Open With area select Other then find DiskImageMounter.app.
By the way you are in the correct forum. It is a Mac problem.
