If you have a mid/late 2007 MBP you can install the latest OSX that is available, on your MBP. Mavericks (10.9) has been replaced by Yosemite (10.10) and is no longer available in the App store.
You choices are Lion (10.7), Mt.Lion (01.8) (both $20) or Yosemite (free). The first two are available from the Apple online web site. Yosemite can be downloaded from the App store.

You can use any valid email address for your Apple ID. When you do so you are given an alternate .me address, which you then use as your iCloud mail address. You do not need to use the .me address if you don't want to, but only the.me address will sync via iCloud. You can set up your regular email address in the same way as you always have done and continue to use it if you wish to do so. -

I dont know what happened but the screen shows red flickering pixels everywhere where it should be black, and light blue pixels where it should be gray, I had this problem twice, the first time it just disappeared by itself. Now it's been like this for days, I have really no clue.

I have an iPad 1. I did an update itune from 10.2.1 to 11.0.1. to my XP PC, then attached my iPad and did a sync. Then tried to do update download of ios 5.1.1. but get a message that I need to download itunes 11.0.1. So, I am gathering that my itune update did not take. Please help me with these downloads. I have a Macbook Pro 15" (I think 2,2) with the Intel Core Duo (2.16 GHz) that recently has been powering off unexpectedly even when plugged in. Does anyone know about this and how to fix it? I researched it a little bit online and it seems others have had the exact same problem or something similar. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a common solution. I know it is an older machine, but this thing has been rock solid since I forst got it 5 to 6 years ago. I am not an expert with computers by any means, so here is what I know is going on. I usually have it running Firefox with a handful of tabs open as I surf the web. I will also have MS Word open in the dock with a few documents that I use for work. I usually just close the screen when I am done leaving everything as it was on my desktop when I reopen the screen the next time I use it. This has been how I have used the machine since I got it. I have gone through one battery and purchased a replacement a couple years ago. The life on the second battery has run down now to where its will probably only hold a charge for maybe 45 minutes without being plugged in. I usually have the machine on the charger all the time now. Recently when I surf the web, I will hear the fans start to speed up. Before they get to full speed, the machine just powers down. The first time it happened I was surprised and immediately pressed the power button to restart. It tried to restart for a second and powered down again. I pressed the power button a second time and it powered up and ran pretty much like normal. I have heard the fans speed up before and really get going at high RPMs, but it never just suddenly powered down. I would think that it was the battery except for the fact that I have it on the charger. Please share what you know or have experienced about this. It is starting to happen maybe once a day now.
If your Safari won't open, one or more of the following procedures should fix it:
1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
• history.plist
• lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy. -

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all.
Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it!
I need to know which one I need - 45w, 60w and 80w are listed - can someone tell me please? If I'm going to pay this price I want to make sure I get the right one!
Also, is a genuine Apple one available on Amazon UK, does anyone know please?

I've read here on Apple's site that the 85W version will work, as you say, and that it would run cooler with a 13" Macbook - I have a 13" MBP of course but assume this would be the same with mine. I wonder if running cooler is a good thing (it sounds as if it is) and it would be better for me to get the 85W version than the 60W one?
Then I have to decide whether to pay the (extortionate as it seems to me, though I may be wrong) £65 from Apple (bearing in mind the rotten reviews here of the Apple product), or risk a cheaper alternative from Amazon UK, at around £20 (also with various rotten reviews)... Any suggestions? Please? :-) -

What does it tell you. If it says it isn't compatible, then you don't have a mid/late 2007 MBP. You might have an early 2007 MBP, which cannot run Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -

Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any.
