Right idea, but wrong name for it.
Older power supplies took the raw AC as it came out of the wall and ran that through a transformer -- but the transformer had to be really big and heavy. Then pull Voltages off that and rectify and filter them for the various output Volatges.
A switching power supply is one that uses a very high power transistor to "chop up" or "switch" the input power into a lower Voltage AC wave inside, then steps that up or down through a more modest transformer and rectify and filter it to provide the outputs. It weighs quite a bit less, and is more efficient as well.

I have been using a Lightroom 5 including recent upgrades on my Mac Pro laptop for the past 1 year. This was purchased as an upgrade from Lightroom 4 for which I have a serial number. Today I purchased a new Macbook pro and loaded my Lightroom 5 however it is asking for my serial number which I have misplaced. I am unable to trace my serial number anywhere. I have photos on a USB memory stick which I want to put onto my iPad. I bought the USB adaptor but for some reason the iPad is not recognising the memory stick. Can anyone help? Thank you
You need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them. But a lot of USB memory sticks need more power than is supplied to the kit, so you may need a powered hub between it and kit.

This has nothing to do with fonts. It usually happens when your encoding is set wrong for a specific page. Panther Safari did not show these diamonds, but just displayed nothing, so people get the impression something has changed, but it really hasn't.
In Safari, I'm using Unicode (UTF-8) as my default
encoding. Is this setting correct?
Not if you keep running into pages with black diamonds. It would be better to set your default to Western ISO Latin 1. The black diamonds will probably go away. -

Connect your iPhone to your computer. Tp your pc should recognize your iPhone as a camera. Use what ever application you have on the pc to transfer files from a camera to your computer.

I have a Nikon D600 and D800 and I shoot everything in Raw. I use Photoshop Elements 9 for processing but I have been unable to convert any RAW files to open in PSE. Says unable to parse the file. What does this mean and how do I fix it?
Since pse 9 can only use up to camera raw 6.5 and the d600 needs at least 7.3 and the d800 needs at least 6.7, you can use the
8.6 adobe dng converter to convert those files to dng copies, which then pse 9 should open.

Forget the Pendrive stategy...
Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
or CCC http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)

I have Prem. Elements 12. I am trying to add audio media. I know where the audio files are located (using GET INFO while in iTunes), and when I try to add certain audio files, some are accepted and some are not. In one case, when I opened a particular folder, the song was not listed, even tho' the song is there when using Windows Explorer. This happens with mp3 and mp4 and just wav files. Some audio are accepted, most are not. I get that codec is not installed error message, too.

Go to System Preferences > iCloud and turn iCloud off.
Restart holding the Command and R keys and then choose to reinstall Mac OS X. If you have applicaitons on the machine that should not be transfered to another party, after the restart choose Disk Utility and erase the hard drive and then install Mac OS X...that will return the machine to factory condition. -

Does she have an Apple ID? Go into Settings>Store and change the account that will be used to purchase apps, music, etc. from yours to hers.
