I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro and the hard drive keeps making a clicking noise. The computer is still under warranty. Will it cost anything to be repaired and will all the data on the hardrive be lost?

White screen means the EFI partition isn't loading and it's the first partition on the drive to load up, EFI contains the gray boot screen.

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in. That's about all you can do.

I have a mid 2009 macbook pro and my issue is that I installed windows 7 and when I wan to install the drivers it says " bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" I tried installing the drivers with the bootcamp 4 but it did not work either it says that i have a newer bootcamp version. You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers -

Your MacBook doesn't support SATA III, so if you install a SATA III HDD, it will work with SATA II speeds.
That hard drive should work. Also, 7200 rpm hard drives will give you extra performance -
So after installing the SSD, I tried rebooting into recovery mode and erasing it and was successful, I think at least. Now I am trying to reinstall Yosemite and everytime I go to do it, it says an error has occurred. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or is there just a step that I am missing? Thanks

Start up the macbook and hold down CMD+R. Then choose disk utility from the drop down menu. Partition the harddrive as you would normally using "MacOS Extended Journaled" GUID partition table. 1 partition or more (not current.) -
Mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 restarts when moved
Hi everyone,
I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch that still has the factory 8gb ram and 750gb HD and the 2.9 i7. Recently i have been having issues with it restarting, the first couple of times it did it would only do it when i would move it and right before it would restart the screen would glitch a little. A little bit after that it would restart if i was running something memory intensive like converting movie files. And finally at one point it wouldnt boot up at all and would beep 3 times, after that i opened it and just swapped the the 4gb ram and it worked just fine. I also clean installed Yosemite right after that and it was fine for about a week and now its starting to restart whenever i move it again. Before everyone tells me to buy new ram or take it the genius bar I want to know if theres anything else i can do, Im in college right now and I'm not covered by applecare anymore so my budget it very limited so i would like to make those a last resort kinda thing. Based on your description, it indicates that there is a loose connection. I would open the MBP and inspect to see if it can be located.

Okay so I'm looking at purchasing a home theater system and was wanting to know the best way to connect my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the home theater system and TV. I am wanting to play both movies (Netflix etc) and music. Will my MacBook play 5.1 surround sound to the home theater system? Whats the best way to connect this all up? MacBook audio to the home theater system via Digital Optical from the headphone port with a 3.5mm to toslink adapter and then video to the TV via HDMI cable from the thunderbolt port with thunderbolt to HDMI adapter? My thinking was to separate the video and audio to get the best picture and sound. Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

An AppleTV or any AirPlay-enabled AVR. AirPlay is wireless, though you could use wired Ethernet if you want to avoid all the potential problems associated with wireless. Make sure it specifically says AirPlay which is Apple's proprietary technology. There are quite a few of them to choose from today. Denon is one, I believe Pioneer, there may be others. Shop around. The AppleTV's price was recently reduced to $69 US and may actually be the most cost-effective solution, allowing you to research the best AVR for your needs. The AppleTV has both HDMI (audio and video) and optical audio outputs.

Way too complicated But if you really don't want to use AirPlay, you can purchase an inexpensive (< $10) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an equally inexpensive (<$3) HDMI cable to any HDMI input on your AVR.

It makes absolutely no difference. HDMI and optical audio use completely identical digital audio signals. -

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and the GPU is causing issues with Yosemite. There are a number of issues I have run across:
If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing
When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. I have to reboot
FireFox Web browser will not run
I get issues with the computer running very slowly
I have already turned off the transparency option in settings. Any ideas??

You may want to look at something like http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/. This has a Free Trial window, but it is a commercial application. If there are any heat/sensor issues, this may help.
A SMC Reset or PRAM/NVRAM reset may also help.

I have just transferred my iTunes library from a hard drive previously connected to a windows laptop to a MacBook Pro and now all my options for editing info are greyed out. I have seen the answers if still using windows but could find a similar situation to this one.

in that case it might be best to copy the entire iTunes folder to the external. then, on each machine, launch iTunes while pressing option on your keyboard. when prompted, click on +choose library+ and navigate to the iTunes folder on the external.
note only one iTunes can access the iTunes library @ a time !
also, make sure the external is mounted on either machine before launching iTunes.

I took my laptop to my local Apple store to have the problem diagnosed and they told me the problem lies in the grpahics card which will require the replacement of the entire logic board at a cost to me of $340.
after that I did some research on the topic and found that this was a massive problem on this model of macbook pro and Apple never issued a recall to fix the issue, are there any class action suits in this category currently underway? if so how can I join?I also have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15". A month after buying a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" directly from Apple, it began to crash. At first, I assumed it was my fault as I had been messing around with Bootcamp and doing other heavy stuff, but I quickly learned it would randomly decide to shutdown regardless of the task at hand. I was very busy at the time. I was a fledgling teacher in France, and I hardly had any time, or money, to put toward a 84 euro train ticket to Paris. Also, OS X updates were around the corner (Lion, Mountain Lion), so I held out, hoping the issue would be resolved with the updates.
During my investigation of the issue, I did find the TS4088 article. It recommended I install some updates, and then it described a problem that seemed similar to my own, but the order in which the problems occured, as described in the TS4088 article, did not follow the same pattern that my computer had been experiencing–there was no gray or black screen after the restart warning message when my mac crashed. The first time I found TS4088 on Apple's Support page (at a time when their product recalls were easier to locate before they redesigned their website), it was a couple of months after I had bought the computer. I reasoned that my Macbook Pro must not be suffering from the same issues as I had never seen the video freeze or go black before seeing a restart message. The restart warning message is the last thing I saw, no loss of video or black(or gray) screen afterwards. My computer would simply start to boot up again.
About two years after buying the computer, and suffering from about 3 GPU panics a day, I searched for the TS4088 article again, wondering if I had misread it, and that maybe the issues described in the article were the same issues I was experiencing. This time I could not find the TS4088 article on Apple's Website. I searched over and over again, but it was nowhere to be found. I assumed that issue had been resolved and the article removed. Now after three years of using a faulty, unreliable computer, I was feeling like a schmuck. I searched again on Apple's website to find the TS4088 article, or any new ones that outlined my very apparent GPU issues, but I had no luck. I circled Apple's website over and over and could not find that article. It was only through a link other frustrated mid-2010 Macbook Pro owners had posted on some other website that I found the link to TS4088, also learning that the forum's users were experiencing my same problems.
Based on the language Apple used to describe the problem, I did not reason that I was suffering the same issue. Here's what happens when my computer crashes:
• The computer seems to shut down. The display turns off, the fans stop spinning
• The message "Your computer was restarted because of a problem . . . Press any key to restart" is displayed.
• I press any key, the computer restarts, I wait for next crash to interrupt my work

Apple has determined that a small number of MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) computers may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display or on an external display connected to the MacBook Pro. In this situation, you may also see a restart warning message before the video is lost or the display turns black or gray."
My computer never displays a restart message before the video is lost or display turns black. My Macbook Pro mid 2010 loses the picture on the display, and less than a second after that is the restart warning displayed. The video would never freeze or stop playing, rather the whole computer just dumped all of its processes and displayed a warning message asking me to press any key to restart.
My issues with this problem are the following:
•The problems described in TS4088 do not accurately reflect what users are experiencing. TS4088 is misleading in this respect.
•The article TS4088 was not easy to find on Apple's website. It seemed to have moved to an obscure, impossible-to-find location that could only be found thanks to the great number of other Mac users who are experiencing the same problem.
This issue hasn't been managed dutifully. I'm annoyed to have sunk money into a developer account. I'm annoyed that I sunk money into an expensive product that does not work. I'm annoyed that the description of the issue afflicting mid 2010 Macbook Pros was inaccurately and misleadingly described and that links to the TS4088 article disappeared from Apple's website when I could have truly benefitted from them. I am especially annoyed that my life in graphic design, web development, and iOS development has stagnated for several months as my computer crashes some 15 times a day. I am, however, pleased with the speed at which a Mac can boot up.
