Right click 'computer' in your PC/laptop (whichever). Click 'Manage', then 'Services and Applications', then 'Services', you should see 'Apple Mobile Device' running or stopped. If you couldn't find 'Apple Mobile Device', it means you haven't download iTunes into your PC/laptop (whichever).

That is because your apple mobile device service is not started.
The apple mobile device is the thing that allows your phone to communicate with your computer. First thing to try is restarting your computer then plugging your phone in. Check with activity monitor / task manager to see if it is running. -
After updating to iTunes 5, I got an error message said the iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Moble Device service is not started. Any idea why and how to fix this? Thanks!

This iphone cannot be used because the apple moble device service is not started. This is the error I am now getting. Can anyone tell me why? My phone is working fine. I an very confused. LOL
I assume that you are gettting this error message when you try to connect the iphone to your computer.
To start the service, right click on my computer and choose "Manage"
Then select the services tab. You should see the service listed towards the top of the window. Start the service and see if it works.
If not, you may need to re-install itunes. This will re-download the service for you.
