I have a new laptop to replace my old one and need to install my itunes library on there, so that all the stuff on my phone, including music is transfered to my new computer

please advise

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

    Bought my Daughter new ipod touch 4th gen to replace her old one and i want to get it ready for christmas by transferring everything (games, music etc) - how do i do this?
    Also, if she sells her old one, would the new owner have access to account/bank details?

    You can transfer iTunes purchases from the old iPod to your computer then sync the new iPod.
    Connect the old iPod, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases From
    Now connect the new iPod and sync Apps, Music, etc.
    As for selling the old one tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
    That will erase all personal data from the iPod.

    The progress for some games will transfer since some games synce progress to a cental server. For other games you will have to have the backup of the old iPod.
    You can restore from backup or access the backup. See:
    How to transfer game saves between iOS devices, without iTunes, and without jailbreaking | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog
    If you have acces to the old iPod yu can make a backup by connecting the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore from that backup.

    Did you change the ID you are using for iCoud?  If so, did you delete the account, then sign back in with your new ID on your device?

    She would need her own Apple ID, though not an iTunes Store account per se. This article will probably be of help:

    You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
    They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Creating a new table, to replace an old one

    Hi experts;
    I'm looking for an advice about what I'm going to do.
    This is the situation;
    I got a production table with more than 1,000,000,000 of records.
    the queries to this table are too slow, and I decided to create a new table, to replace this one.
    But my doubts are:
    How can I create a new table including the same structure as the old one, and with some data.
    I got this query:
    Create new_table as select * from old_table
    where trans_year = '2012';
    I know with this I got the structure, but what about indexes?
    My other doubt is, to replace the old one, just I drop it, and rename the new one?
    This table belong to an oracle 9i DB.
    Thanks for your comments.

    You could export the table metadata and then import it as a renamed table. That would keep the indexes, triggers, constraints.
    But for one table it may be easier to just recreate the indexes and other objects.
    For the query you may want to disable logging of the INSERT.
    Create table new_table NOLOGGING as select * from old_table where trans_year = '2012';
    -- set the table back to logging mode
    ALTER table new_table LOGGING;Then you can drop the old table (if you already have a backup of it) and rename the new one to the old name.
    The create will perform much better with NOLOGGING but because it is not logged you will not be able to recover the data from the log files.
    So you should take a backup afterward.

  • I restored my new iPad 2 from my old one and the 2 games I play most are missing. Any suggestions?

    I Restored my new iPad 2 from my old iPad and everything came across except my 2 favorite games which I play all the time..I dont want to download the games as I will lose my score. Any suggestion?

    Apparently those apps and their data were not in the backup file that you used to setup your new iPad.
    If you still have the old iPad you could take a new backup and restore your new iPad from this new backup.
    If this is not possible you can still download the apps from the App Store at no charge but you will have to start over on these games.

  • I have a new laptop and need to sync my itune library with it ... how do i do this ?

    I have not backed up my itune library from previous laptop and have a new laptop. Got a new iphone which has all my music but since i bought a new laptop and want to sync my music on iphone with my new lapotp... how do I do this ?

    the proper way is to transfer your itunes library from the old laptop and resync your iPhone to the new computer.
    It will erase the iPhone and load it again from the new laptop.
    If you do not have access to your old laptop and the iTunes library...
    well there are ways of getting things off iPhone but you need to google for third party software to do it.

  • HT1449 This was somewhat informative, but what happens after you receive the  "The folder containing "iTunes Library" cannot be found, and is required. Please choose or create a new iTunes library,"? I ran through all the steps, received this message. Now

    tried to move my itunes library to an external to free up space and run itunes off of an external. Went through all the steps. Received the message "The folder containing "iTunes Library" cannot be found, and is required. Please choose or create a new iTunes library," like it mentioned I might, and here is where the instructions end. Now what?

  • New BB - 9/10 attempts on old one and need to access data. Please help me understand which password to use

    I got a new BB yesterday and IT took the SIM from the old one, put it in the new one and set it up for me. During this they changed my password.
    I then realised that I had left my pictures on the old BB (my son's birth to date) so I took the SIM from the new one and put it back in the old one.  It did some kind of synch thing automatically and then I tried entering my old password. It wouldn't accept it and before I knew it I had a warning saying I would be locked out on the next attempt. (I didn't know about this restriction before or I would have stopped earlier)
    Do I have to enter the new password that IT gave me?  Will my old phone recognise the new password or will it wipe? I am not clear if there is some sort of match up between the device software and the sim card.
    I know both passwords but I am afraid to enter either as I am at 9/10 and if I chose the wrong one my pictures are history. Please can someone explain how the passwords work so that I know which one to enter.
    The old one didn't work so I suspect I need the new one but I am afraid to use the new one in case the device knows the old one somehow and when it doesn't match it wipes. Sorry if I am babbling on but very distressed and anxious right now :/
    Thanks

    You need to ask your BES Admin that.
    But FIRST... on the old device, are the pictures ON the Media Card or in the device Memory? Where are they stored?

  • I have 20 GB of music stored on my Macbook Air (2011) and only 7GB in my iTunes library? How can I delete the extra music without deleting any of my 7GB in my iTunes Library?

    I have no idea how to go through my folders and delete all this extra music without deleting whatever the 7GB is in my iTunes!
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    If you use iTunes' default preferences settings, anything in your collection will be in your iTunes Media folder.  When you add a track to iTunes it places a copy in the iTunes folder but leaves the original where you downloaded it.  The exceptions are if you use the Automatically Add To iTunes folder it does move it, or you drag items to iTunes while holding down the option key in which case it uses the copy wherever it is.
    As for where the other files are, you will have to look on your computer.  Use Spotlight to search for .mp3 .mp4 or whatever file formats you have.  If they aren't in the iTunes folder and iTunes lists them as being in the library then likely they are the original files which you can delete.
    You will have to do some careful checking that whatever you delete is not the file actually used by iTunes.  If you have a flash drive or another drive for temporary storage i would stick the extra files there and then if something breaks you can restore them
