I have a Powermac G4. When I bought it it was a dual 1 GHz. Now it says it's a dual 733 MHz. Bow weird is that?

I bought a dual 1 GHz in 2002. System profiler now says its a dual 733 MGz! How can.that happen?

Hello Jayg00,
I had this problem recently, and I'm trying to remember just how I resolved it. I volunteer for a charity that recycles old Macs, so we get weird problems all the time and trying to remember exactly how I solve things can be a problem.
As I remember, it was a G4 Quicksilver that had had its memory and maybe its CPU updated...  and I think I diagnosed the problem by looking in the Apple Profiler at the top left under the Apple logo and finding that that not all the memory was being recognised... why this would cause the misreading was not clear, but I moved the memory into different slots and replaced some of it. Of course, I would have reset the logic board and the PRAM. I think maybe I replaced the thermal paste between heatsink and CPU, too.
Exactly what the problem was or what else I did that might have cleared it doesn't remain in my memory (sorry!), but I hope that helps.
Regards... Jon
