I have a Synology NAS server and a Maxtor HD connected directly to my router. With Snow Leopard I was able to connect through finder directly to the devices and move files accordingly. Now with Lion I cannot connect to either device directly. Solution?

How do you connect to NAS/External HD on router directly with "connect to" command in Finder. Worked in Leopard, but not in Lion?

Was able to create guest network but when I try to access guest network to test it, I cannot connect.  I tried iPad and iPhone.

The Guest Network feature will not function correctly if the AirPort Exteme is configured in Bridge Mode.
But unfortunately, Bridge Mode is the correct setting if you have the AirPort Extreme connected to a modem/router or gateway type of device.
So, is the AirPort Extreme configured in Bridge Mode as illustrated above?
Can you provide the make and model number of the device that you might call your "modem"?

Remove the iPhone from the list of devices in the car. Remove the car from the list of devices in the iPhone. Turn Bluetooth off on the phone and reset the phone. hodl the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and release. The phone will reboot. Turn the car on and put the radio into discovery/pairing mode. Turn Bluetooth on for the iPhone which puts it into discovery/pairing mode. The two should see each other.

  • I was able to search google. Then close the window and later get back to the search page. Now I cannot?

I am using Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and iMac with 6GB RAM. When I go back to Safary/History/Google search all I am given when I click on the Google search subject a "Blank window" to re enter my subject. I used to be able to get back to the original search window with all the Hits or  links available.

Try deleting the Safari cache more often. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that doesn't help, try this ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

See this article: iPad: Using the iPad Camera Connection Kit
No, this canot be done, afaik. When your camera or card is connected, you will see the thumbnails in the camera pane, but not full size preview. So to browse your photos on the iPad you will need to import them to your camera roll. But you need not delete them from the camera or card after importing, so you might simply import selected photos to your camera roll from the camera grid and then delete them again from the camera roll after importing and browsing, without removing them from the card/camera.

  • Unable to connect to Verizon Fios Router after Snow Leopard upgrade

After upgrading to Snow Leopard on the three-year-old iMac, I am unable to connect wirelessly to the Verizon Fios router, and what's worse, the Fios rep couldn't solve it either. She thought that it was an Apple software issue. Any ideas? My other two Macs are still connecting to the router without a problem and the MacBook is using Snow Leopard also.

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • I have installed firefox3.6 on my mac with snow leopard, but firefox will not open when I click on the icon.

It seems that firefox installed correctly, but then it wouldn't open. I restarted my computer and still the same problem. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still the same problem.

    Also having the same problem.
I have tried the following with no luck.
*Uninstalling and deleting profile + profile.ini then reinstalling
    *deleting the .parentlock file
    *deleting and reinstalling version 3.6.8.dmg
*Checked the activity monitor that the application isn't listed as running
    *Downloaded addtrap and uninstalled again
    all with no luck.
Try some of these first as they might fix your problem but not mine! ;)
If anyone knows of something I may be missing I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

  • Two MacBooks with Snow Leopard should be able to iChat?!

I feel as if this should be easy. The connection is established but the audio is intermittent and video is intermittent. Is the inability to have streaming audio and video tied to the connection speed? How do I validate my current connection speed? I am currently using a wireless router (at my parents house, LOL) and assume I have decent connection speed. Happy holidays beautiful people. Thanks. K.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Yes, good Video and Audio is linked to adequate Connection Speed. (or to be more specific the portion that each computers gets of any Connection).
The Upload speed is the Controlling factor as this is often slower.
    Speed test site http://www.speedtest.net/.
Click on the yellow star. If this offers you a drop down then choose one of the options.
    It check Download and Upload.
You will need at least 128kbps Upload if there is only one computer at your end.
If both Computers are where you are then effectively you will need 256kbps Upload.
I would go as far as saying the 256kbps is a much more realistic "Real World" figure to use as the lowest point.
iChat 4 and Earlier (OS 10.5.x and 10.4.x and earlier)
Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and set the speed there to 1.5Mbps
The Automatic Setting does not get the most out of your Connection and the LAN/Intranet is also suspect for iChat, so the 1.5Mbps is the least capping of the figures.
If you have iChat 5 (10.6.x) anywhere in the connection both ends, even if on iChat 4 or lower, should go to iChat > Preferences > Video/Audio section and drop the Bandwidth to 500kbps.
This has the effect of smoothing out very vast connections.
    All Internet Connections vary.
A 5% change in a 10Mbps service is in fact very large compared to an iChat 4 users variance based on the 1.5Mbps max.
Also some ISPs look at Peer-to-Peer File sharing traffic and try and stop it by slowing the network. iChat to iChat in Video Chats is high amounts of data passing Peer-to-Peer.
The 500kbps setting can "get you under the Radar" so to speak.

  • Is it possible to order an iMac specifically with Snow Leopard, in preference to Lion, say, by the end of this year (as a Christmas gift)?

I want to buy an iMac as a Christmas gift this year and wondered if it may be possible to specifically order one with Snow Leopard? By then I imagine all machines available for sale are likely to have Lion pre-loaded, hence my question.
If I could buy one now, I would, as there are many around still with Snow Leopard - but sadly I can't manage it just at the moment.
    Thanks
    Ross

Thanks folks, I realise this is just a user forum of course, I was just wondering if anyone had previous experience with buying a Mac with an older system on it at a time of changeover like this. A friend has just bought a new one from an Apple store this week with Snow Leopard on it - not surprising given the newness of Lion, but I was curious to know if anyone had experience with being given a choice during a system upgrade.
And who knows...maybe Apple do look in at the forums to see what people are asking????
    Thanks

  • Need to get game to work on macbook with snow leopard?

Downloaded Civilization Vfrom the app store on my macbook pro with lion, then moved it (via flash drive) to my macbook with snow leopard. When I open it, it asks me for the apple ID I downloaded it with, but after that it never opens or stays in the dock. Its like its killed the second it opens. Is there a way I can force it to stay open?

We need to know which model you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When the System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier. Then post that information back here.
    Civilization V Minimum System Requirements
    Operating System: 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
CPU Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core)
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
    Memory: 512 MB
    Video Memory (VRam): 256 MB
    Hard Disk Space: 3 GB

  • Pages 4.2 update doesn't run with Snow Leopard

I keep both Montain Lion and Snow Leopard on the same computer, different partitions. After upgrading Pages this week, it no longer runs under Snow Leopard.  The icon changes and a launch message says I can't use this version with Snow Leopard. It looks like this is true of all the iWorks apps. This is the first time I recall the iWorks suite not being backwards compatible.
My advice is to keep a backup copy or older iWorks releases if you need to run Snow Leopard. The App store only has the Mountain Lion version so I can't just download the SnowLeopard compatible version.

The same exact thing happened to me. I have a thread on this same issue but no one has responded. Did you find a way around this?

  • IPhone 5 used with  Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

My MacBook Pro 17" is an early model (2/07) and I have read that it is not capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion.  So it looks like using iCloud is unavailable for me.  What else on the iPhone 5 won't work with Snow Leopard?

CS 1 Works totally fine here on 10.6.8 and Rosetta is a killer feature, very fast and unobtrusive, I generally don't notice speed differences between CS1 (PPC) and CS5.5 (Intel) on the same machine for normal size files. So I have no reason to believe this won't be the case with CS2 as well.  With gigantic files 5.5 certainly has the edge as it can use way more memory.
Don't forget to ENABLE rosetta on 10.6. It is no longer ON by default.

  • Leopard backup compatible with Snow Leopard?

Hi I tried to upgrade my macbook from 10.5.8 to SL 10.6.3 but seems to be stucked in the boot process.
I did make an backup before installing but I wonder if it is compatible with Snow Leopard?
Should wipe the disk and reinstall and can I still find all files in the old backup then?

What kind of backup did you make? If it was bootable (eg Time Machine, or a clone) it wouldn't have to be compatible with Snow Leopard, since you're just going to recover that 10.5 backup and then, hopefully, try the upgrade again. If it was a Time Machine backup, you'll need to use your original 10.5 install disks and choose the "Recover from Time Machine" menu option when you boot to it.
Can I ask what disks you used to attempt the 10.6 upgrade? (eg, where did you get them, what color are they?)

The first two things I recommend is boot from your installer dvd or external bootable drive and repair/verify your drives with Disk Utility (not repair permissions) and do a smc and pram reset.
Also make sure you have at least 20GB to 25GB free space on your boot volume for OS operations.
