I have an iMac i3 core with 10.6.8 and want to install Lion.  I have read good and bad reviews.  Is it worth it.

Is is worth it to install 107?  After all the reviews I am still undecided.  I have Office 2011 and CS3 and want everything to work.

Only you can decide that. Look here and see if the additional feautures are something you need.
Also, check here about compatibility: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Finally, open System Profiler and click on Software>Applications and look for anything listed as PowerPC. They won't work at all with Lion.

  • I just bought a 5g iPod touch and was wondering if there were any ihomes out or coming out soon that are compatible with this device? I know about the lightning adapters but read about their bad reviews and would like to avoid buying one for my ihome

I just bought a 5g iPod touch and was wondering if there were any ihomes out or coming out soon that are compatible with this device. I know there are adapters and cables you can purchase to use with your existing ihome but read the poor reviews on them and was scared away. I use my ihome very regularly and need this accessory to work with my new iPod. If you have any information on this, please help!

iHome already makes docks that support the Lightning connector:

Call Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).

    Processor 2 GHz Core Duo. 2 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 .

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If yours is truly a Core Duo then it cannot run Mountain Lion. Snow Leopard is the latest you can install.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $29.00 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

  • Have os 10.5, and want to install Lion? pay for 2 upgrades?

so i have os x 10.5.8, and want to install Lion...
Requirements are os x 10.6 (snow leapard), and thus this is $$ upgrade
before i purchase the Lion upgrade?
    Is Apple providing any assistance?

I've personally installed Lion on my iMac from a Recovery Partition to a partition on a hard drive that is blank.
I did notice however that the computer paused during the initial stages of the install for a "Checking with apple for your computers elegibility to upgrade" screen.  It appeared to be checking whether or not it would complete the install based on what?  I'm not sure. My iMac initially came with 10.5 installed and it still worked...  I did however have Snow Leopard installed prior to installing lion, then breaking it and reinstalling.
I'm not sure what it was checking on TBH.  But in any case, I'm running Lion on my iMac.

I downloaded and installed Lion on an external hard drive using my laptop which is running Snow Leopard I have now decided that I want to install Lion on my Laptop, but when I go to the App store and click on my purchases it will not download again

    Thanks Dirk,
Tried your suggestion various ways but it had no effect the download button was still greyed out and the install button would not activate will keep trying to find a solution. I dont want to boot from the external hard drive that has Lion on mainly because it is a usb HD and the connection to my wireless modem slows the connection rate and downloading would take about ten hours

  • If I want to install Lions on a 2nd hard drive in my MacPro Desktop, will it allow me to do so if I have Leopard installed on the boot drive?

I have a blank 2nd hard drive that I am going to install in my MacPro desktop. The boot drive already contains the Leopard operating system. I want to install Lions on the blank hard drive. Will setup in Lions when it comes out, allow me to install Lions onto the 2nd hard drive since it should detect that I have a valid Apple operating system on the boot drive?

You can first install Snow Leopard then re-download Lion. Or you saved the original installer application then created a bootable Lion installer on a USB flash drive or DVD. Or you buy Apple's $69.00 USB flash installer.

  • I have an imac 4.1 with 2g of ram and is currently running 10.5.8 operating system, How high can I upgrade the operating system?

I have a 2006 intel imac 4.1 with 2g of ram. I am currently running 10.5.8 and wish to upgrade the operating system. How high can I go as I would like to link it up with my newer imac, iphone and ipad...please advise and 10.5.8 is not cutting it.

You can run up to 10.6.8 on that particular model. That OS version is still available:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
10.6.8 will run on 2GB RAM, the max for that model.

  • I cannot connect to my iMac or my Mackbook from my Windows 7 PC after installing Lion. Worked fine with Snow Leopard

I have a 2009 iMac and a mid 2007 Macbook. I also have an HTPC running Windows 7. I can connect fine to the HTPC from either the iMac or the Macbook, however, I am completely unable to connect to my Macbook or iMac from my PC. This was never a problem prior to upgrading to Lion from Snow Leopard. Please be advised that I know how to set my network up and have tried everything possible. I upgraded my iMac to Lion first and noticed the problem. After checking my settings I was stumped. I noticed that my PC could still connect to my Macbook running Snow Leopard. I then, today, installed Lion on my Macbook and replicated the problem I was experiencing on my iMac. Any suggestions?

The same happens to me!!! Any help out there?

  • I recently installed Snow Leopard but now I want to install Lion but it states that I do not have 2GB RAM space. How do I upgrade???

I have an iMac with only 1 GB of memory. I need 2 GB to upgrade to Lion. How do I purchase more memory? What will it cost me?
    Thanks.

    Order it online: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
You can get 4 GB for about $35, depending on what model you have.

  • IMac Duel Core with OS X op. sys. printing problems

    I have a HP LaserJet 4050.
I downloaded the appropriate driver from HP.
    The computer recognizes the printer.
The printer prints a test page no problem, using the print menu on the printer.
However, when I print from the mac, it tells me "Printer not responding" and nothing ever prints. Is there any help out there?
    Thanks.

How is the printer connected? What protocol did you Add it with in Printer Setup? (yes, I'm just fishing for ideas)

  • IMac Intel Core Duo - what software works and what doesn't???

So I decided to start this post/topic to get feedback from everyone who uses their Intel based iMac for all different reasons and all the various sortware that people use. This includes software, games, freeware and such.
    Here's my 2 cents:
Adobe CS2 software works fine except for Adobe Version Cue2. In other words, thus far InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2 and ImageReady CS2 seem to work fine. Probably a bit slower than on the G5's but not noticeably different.
Anyone else have feedback on their software that you use daily???

Toast 7 works brilliant on my iMac Core Duo. A lot
    better than my Powerbook G4.
EyeTV 2 is working fine on my Intel Core Duo as well.
I'm new to Mac, and bought an eyetv (PX-TV402U for Mac) with my iMac core duo. However, it doesn't run worth a hoot, can get some channels but lots of snow in picture. I'm sure I read somewhere on Plextor's site about a software issue with new core duo, but can't find it now and can't get a responce from Plextor. You say yours is working fine, is that because you have Toast 7? I'm stumped at the moment. Got any suggestions?

  • Need to upgrade - an iMac that works with PP CC 2014 *and* Pro Tools 11.2?

i'm looking back and forth between the two programs' system requirements and i'm stalled out.
Pro Tools 11.1.2 - 11.2 has these two options for iMac:
    2013 27" iMac (*)
    Model Identifier: 14,2
    Qualified Models:
    Core i7 3.5 GHz
    2013 21.5" iMac (*)
    Model Identifier: 14,1
    Qualified Models:
    Core i5 2.7 GHz
    so i'm thinking of this:
    2013 21.5" iMac,
    16GB RAM
Quad core i5 2.9GHz Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB video memory
1TB ATA (with external 7200RPM FW 800 drives for media)
fusion drives aren't supported by Pro Tools so i'm sticking with the ATA.
will this work with PP CC 2014? i need the upgrade because of a project i'm doing in PP but my normal 9-5 job is in PT so i'll need both to run immediately. thanks!

The better graphics option ie 780M for that Imac with the I7. I would also suggest a TB drive instead of Firewire which is higher latency and lower bandwidth for drives.

  • HT1533 iMac turns on with a blank screen and small grey world in the middle which flashes. Cannot do anything?

Been having problems with my addmin password / user name. For some reason it stopped recognising me. Reinserted the Os x disc's that came with the iMac so I could change the password & username. This worked for a day but has now locked me out again. Tried to check a few things and now have a blank display with a grey world flashing up in the middle of the screen. Now and then it changes to a grey folder. Cannot stop this happening. Computer is unusable. Mick

Sounds like a crashed HD. Please carefully follow Apple's instructions in
    Gray screen appears during startup
