I have an iMac with OS X 10.5.8 and Time Machine no longer finds the backup device. It had initially worked. I have checked the connections and restarted the backup device but cannot make it work. What actions should I take to correct this?

Do not use any file sharing or remote access into Mac.
The SSH host attempts were my old Amazon EC2 instances.
Appears to start bitcoin app and few databases.
Worth noting I've been having tons of various issues last few months.

<POB> ENDI'm extremely unclear on exactly what's happening. You mention something about a script running at startup in your subject, but then never mention that again. What's going on there? Where are you finding that script?
That script would suggest someone playing a joke on you, by making your computer say "quack" every time you start up. That's not indicative of malware.
On the other hand, a hidden file as you describe is a common malware trick, though I'm not sure why it would only contain "--purge" - that isn't a complete command, as far as I know, and the purge command isn't likely to be used for malicious purposes anyway.
Still, you do have some indication that you're using Bitcoin-related apps, and there has been some Bitcoin malware that has appeared recently. See:

Note that the post on MacRumors that you refer to in your second post is almost six years old, and references a vulnerability that was closed later in 2008. It's completely irrelevant to any modern system. -

Yikesyou have helped me before and I thank you for that. Funny how at the last resort I ask a question and then an hour later I fix something that has been broken for five days. I got off on the wrong foot with Lightroom installation and I really stepped in it...a lot had to do with a bad hard drive and all that. I still have remnants of catalogues etc so I am never quite sure where I am. I ran a search and found more than one .lrdata files. i recently downloaded an album from itunes and from what it appeared, everything completely downloaded, but 5 of the songs won't completely play through when i want to listen to them. i don't know if the song files are damaged or what. what actions should i take to either repair the files or get my money back from itunes?
Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

Basic troubleshooting: start with a "hard reset" - hold its reset button depressed continuously, about five seconds, until your TC's LED flashes rapidly. After a moment or two it will flash amber, slowly. You will then need to reconfigure it using AirPort Utility.
This does not affect your Time Machine backups.
If its LED remains illuminated amber without blinking after several minutes, it may have a problem you will be unable to fix. In that event, try another "hard reset". -

I can currently use remote app on my Ipad2 to access my windows desktop itunes library. I cannot use the remote to access appleTV. I am setting something up wrong? Home sharing is turned on, apple tv can access the internet no problem. The remote app just connects to my itunes library and that's it
thanks for any help.The remote app requires home sharing to be enabled on Apple TV and both to be on the same network. If those aren't in place you will need to purchase a new remote.

How could someone else's directory get into my phonebook? Someone's grandma, cousins, etc. got added to my phone's phonebook. If I delete each entry, does someone still have access to my phone in some way? How do I secure it from them?

It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:

ios 7.0.4There aren't any supported carriers in Pakistan. Apple hasn't released the iPhone there. The OP is using a grey-market iPhone and hence is pretty much on his/her own as regards getting this phone working with the carrier, unless that carrier can help.

I have an Imac with OSX 10.6.8 dual intel core.

Timecapsule
3G modem connected to iMac for internet access.
I have tied to get Apple TV2 to see the inernet but it does not seem to see the inernet connection either via the Airport network or even if I connect it directly with a ethernet cable to the Timecapsule or the iMac.
I have tired to set up Home Sharing but it doen't see the Itunes Store so no go.
I don't have wired internet but it is probably something to do with using a 3G modem
Any tips on how I can check if the TV coonect to internet and what to do about this problem?
I was trying to connect my HD TV earlier using a WiFi USB modem but it could not see my iMac. Apple Support told me to buy an Apple TV but that is not helping as I can't see anything there either.

I have reset the printing system, a few times for good measure but nadda.
I have also looked at getting the software from the Apple site after seeing that with Snow Leopard you should let the operating system lead the install not the manufacteurers software as it is most likely out of date. I too found it wasn't there so I uninstalled the software got up the CLX_3300 series stuff then went from there with the USB cable. It apparently hasn't worked either
Unfortunately now after using the print utility to scan for a while that has now gone again on the last restart of the Mac. I am so completely clueless
The box says the printer is compatible, the place of purchase said it was compatible, the Samsung site says it is compatible.
I think it's the set up of my Mac? Our maybe a glitch in the network settings?

Got my 1st Mac! I have an iMac with Nvidia GT640M. What great native OSX FPS or MMO games will run well on it, if any?
I'm an Android developer and got my iMac primarily for coding at home as well as general home computing (after being issued a macbook air at work and falling in love with OSX). I was a huge Windows gamer in the past but not in years. I switched from Windows to Linux a few years ago (when I transitioned my career from Windows development to Android). So gaming wasn't a big consideration in fact I didn't want anything too great for gaming so that I don't get sucked into gaming 24x7. However if I can enjoy a game or two on my iMac that would be cool.
I want a native Mac game and I want it to run well (not just barely on the lowest settings) or I would not bother. Will anything run great on my iMac or at least very good?It's the same Deus Ex franchise.
If you want multyplayer games, again see App store where you will find Call of duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty Black ops, and Modern Combat.

Have new iMac with latest version of quicktime. But still have FCP5. When try to make a quicktime movie this version only processes 8 sec of a 7 minute sequence. What's up?
Mike T.It is strange. I thought 10.x might be the more recent but it also locked up when I tried to the web export. I ran into the no autoplay issue with the webpage so I'll need to look elsewhere to replace a Flash gallery... oh well. Looks like there are probably JS option that might work.

I have 2012 iMac with 4 GB RAM. When I turn FCP X, I usually have 2.5 RAM free and the program works normally when I edit. The issue is importing video. I use a Sony HDV camera to import from miniDV tapes, and Apple says Sony HDVs are supported. Yet every time I'm importing, it works normally for 10-15 min, then the amount of free RAM quickly (yet gradually) is reduced to almost zero (I used Memory Clean to dicover it) and then FCP X got frozen and I need to force quit it and start all over again, to work for another 15 min. Horrible! What is it?
Are using 10.0.7 (the latest version)?
Memory problems seem to have been alleviated with 10.0.6 and 10.0.7.
Please post the screenshots of Activity Monitor, as Tom asked. This will at least let us see if it is FCP X itself gobbling a lot of RAM or if you are suffering from the problem of OS X not releasing "Inactive Memory" in a timely manner - an issue that has been there for a long time :-(
You didn't mention whether you have the 27" or 21.5" iMac. Unfortunately, in the 21.5" adding RAM is a big hassle. But if you have the 27", then seriously consider upping the RAM. It is quite inexpensive, from the likes of Crucial or other reputable third parties.

Quick issue. Lost disc. Need to find and download ...
