i have an ipad model mc764ll - going to france and want to use jet pack ?
does it work or what would be the best and cheapest way to go so my son can use the ipad to play games
the ipad has basic verizon but going to place where they are not much wifi like the alps

Verizon offers an email service for non-smartphones called Mobile Email. According to this Gizmodo article (link is below), it apparently was initially compatible with only certain of the non-smartphone models available at that time.
At the present time, every one of the non-smartphone models listed on Verizon's website is listed as having Mobile Email compatibility.
As far as finding out what discontinued phones are compatible with Mobile Email, phonescoop lists this. For example, search for the Intensity II at phonescoop.com Halfway down the page, phonescoop says "Email Client: Yes"
On our Samsung u370 (aka Samsung Reality) and Casio Ravine 2 non-smartphones, Mobile Email is pre-installed as an unactivated app in the Media Center section of the phone.

I understand you are using a cellular iPad 2 and since upgrading to iOS 8 (and 8.0.2) your iPad drops the cellular connection and says, "No Service".
So you have done step 5 in this list, but please test the other steps.
If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad
If you're in your carrier's coverage area
Follow these steps, testing after each.
Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
Restart your device.
Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.
Check for a carrier-settings update: Connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap Settings > General > About, and install any available carrier-settings updates. If you can't connect to Wi-Fi, connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues.
Restore your iPhone.

I think Gift Cards found in iTunes can help you. You can give her a Gift Card as the same value as the app and then she can buy by herself.

If it's not available in your country and you do not have a copy of it in iTunes backed up on your computer, you don't.

Clear Safari, close Safari and reboot the iPad. Then try again.

If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
