I have an iPhone and my 9 year old has an iPad, they are both linked to my Apple ID however I want his to be separate now so that we can send messages and face time. Any suggestions how I do this???

Thank you. I tried changing his id but it changed it on both devices:( Don't really have a clue:( I have set up an email account so that he can get an Apple ID.

Does it work sometimes, or never? If it never works that means that the phone was not unlocked. If it works sometimes most likely it is a network problem with the carrier. If you think it might be the phone go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings. You may also need a new SIM card from your carrier.
If it is a phone hardware problem you must return the phone to the US for service, as iPhones are only repaired by Apple in the country where they were purchased.

You can turn it off:
Turn off iPhone cellular calls
To turn off iPhone Cellular Calls on a device, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.

Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on both your iPhone and your iPad to make sure that the following are all true:
(1) you have selected the same Apple ID on both devices,
(2) you have the same entries checked under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both devices,
(3) you have the same entry checked under "Start new conversations from:" on both devices,
and
(4) that the entry checked in #3 is one of those checked in #2 on both devices.

Mkae sure you have enabled Home Sharing using the same AppleID on both computers.

One phone is for work and one is for private and I don't need both phones to ring from one call. It's bizarre.......is this supposed to be like this? If so where can I turn it off?? And while we are at it iOS8 has installed iBooks on both of my phones and iTunes won't let me uninstall it. I don't need or want iBooks on my phones.

There are two easy fixes to this.
One, you can set up Family Sharing, in which you can have two different iCloud Accounts, yet still share the same apps, music, media etc.
Two, go to Settings and turn-off "Handoff". This can be found under the General page.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

You can also make a FaceTime call from the Contacts app.

Updated to Mavericks and I get the upper left quarter of the screen blacked out on Time Machine. This means that I can't see the files. Any suggestions for getting rid of the black square?

Ive tried disconnecting and reconnecting the Time Machine. And I've tried rebooting the iMac, but I still get the top left hand quarted of the screeen blacked out. I can scroll back through the back-ups but the back square means that I can't see the details of any file.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
