I was listening to my 32GB ipod touch 2nd generation and it got real hot and quit working.  i can not get it to do anything.  I have let it rest for several months and I can not get it to do anything.  Can anyone help?

Do you have Apple Care for it?
If not, you may want to walk it into the nearest Apple Store and ask for assistance there...
Good luck in any case.

To rule out a problem with the shuffle's onboard software, I would try a Restore on the shuffle using iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
If that does not help, you should do a test to confirm there is not a problem on the USB port, such as lack of power to operate the iPod and charge it battery.  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.
If that does not help, it is more likely that the problem is a hardware problem on the shuffle, such as the battery.

  • Wireless connection to ipod touch 8G 2nd generation

I may have to use a different wireless router, (which could be one which uses wireless n), as i am having to change my broadband service provider. So can anyone advise me what wireless does the ipod touch 8G 2nd generation use (ie wireless b/g/n etc) & are they compatible with wireless n/wireless routers, or is wireless n backwards compatible/generic etc with all other wireless/devices.
    THANKS

All the iPod Touch models are b/g except for the newest 4th generation which is finally now "n"..
    Yes, they are backwards compatible.

I have always used all Apple Base station.
Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, and also the Airport Express of which I have 3...
I am now using the Dual Band Airport Extreme for the main base station and the 3 Airport Express units for Airplay and one of them to extend the network.
Works well with the Dual Band.

Same thing here. Try putting the brightness down all the way (its hard to see at first but you will get used to it) and one more thing is that close all you open apps. So to do that you have to click the home button twice (after you put your passcode in) and you will see some apps in the bottom. Hold it until there is a red - sign. click all of them so they go away. This does not delete your apps it just makes your ipod better.

If you have the first gen ipod touch as your information shows, then you would have to buy a software update:

  • HELP!! Ipod touch will not charge or turn on

My ipod touch will not charge or turn on. I think the battery went dead, but now it won't even turn on or charge. My computer does not even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried to charge it on other devices and get the same result. Can anyone help?

    TRY GEORGE GUERRERO'S ANSWER FIRST.
Plug it into the computer for about 15 minutes.
If it starts to turn on after about 15 minutes then unplug it.
As it is turning on hold down BOTH THE POWER AND THE HOME BUTTON on the itouch for 15 seconds, or until it flashes white or just turns back off.
Then RELESE THE POWER BUTTON BUT STILL HOLD DOWN THE HOME BUTTON.
    Then plug it back in.
The computer should reconise your ipod.

  • TS1398 My wireless password in only 6 lowercase letters, but my iPod touch requires me to enter 8 before allowing me to join.  Therefore it will not let me log on to the wireless network, any solutions?

What encryption are you using on the router?
If WEP you have to set the router to use the first key and you have to enter the first key as the password on the iPod. See:

  • My ipod classic will not charge or turn on

MY IPOD CLASSIC WILL NOT CHARGE OR TURN ON

Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.

You might have to bite the bullet and restore the device if nothing else works. If that doesn't bring it back to life, make an appointment at an Apple Store and let take a look at it.

  • Help my Ipod will not charge or turn on.

My Ipod touch will not charge, or turn on.  First it was just giving me the apple logo, then I attempted to restore, but a message appeared an error occurred(9).  I went to error code 9 and did what was suggested and it still does not work.

Did you try restoring on another computer as recommended by:
    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • Ipod touch will not charge or turn on.

My daughter's ipod touch got wet. Now it will not charge. I have set it in rice. And now it has set for a least 2 months. Help????

I've been having a problem like this, and I'm posting this for those looking for a solution like mine, but not finding the same problem and fix.
One day, my Touch would not turn on. I plugged it into the cable connected to the usb port - the same one it always charges with.  The low/red battery icon appeared with the little lightning symbol below.  It's done that before, fine, but this time, it went straight to the apple icon.
I'd tried everything, but could not find a solution. No one seemed to have my problem.  Then I found this today, and it solved my problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • IPod touch recognizes it is plugged in and has low battery but will not charge no matter what it is connected to! Suggestions????

After a year of owning my iPod touch 4g it suddenly stopped charging on my computer and outlet addapter.  It still shows the two pronged plug icon that recognizes the iPod is connected to something but even as the battery level goes below twenty percent it will not charge. Still functions well and even connects to iTunes.

If it is still under warrenty which you can find out from here or if you know it's under one year old bring it to the Apple Store.
