While I am no fan of Best Buy and would not buy a lightbulb from them I doubt you issues have anything to do with your iMac and more to do with your lack of experience and simply getting bad advice. Judging by you post I suspect you have loaded your computer down with a lot of crapware and that has caused it's problems. For example running antivirus apps on a Mac not only is a waste of time, it's a waste of money, system resources and will eventually create more problems that it solves. The good news is here are absolutely no, zero, zippo viruses for OS X. There are other types of malware available (for example trojans) however they differ greatly from viruses in that the use has to download and install them, whereas viruses do not work that way. OS X is not like MS Windows and is extremely secure.
My suggestion at this point would be to clean your computer of the crapware (including antivirus apps) however before doing so please download and install EtreCheck and post its report. Then we can see how your computer has been configured and begin to give you some advice on the next steps.

Well, your service is handled by an Authorized Apple Service Center. If they refuse to handle the claim, that is well within their rights. When my husband got home I was in the process of writing down all the details to inform apple of the dodgy o2 store, only for him to inform me that he never got it unlocked at the o2 store because they couldn't do it the same day and as I have zero patience he took it a few doors down to a phone shop that advertised unlocking of phones! So now holding my head in shame I have to appologise to o2 and to everyone for wasting their time! Sorry! Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

I have tried and confimed that you can download the previous version from some web-site about the version 10.5.1.42.
Remove/un-install 10.5.2.11 and restart your computer.
Install the old version 10.5.1.42
and then you can find the "Devices" on the left column and showing synchronizing when you connect the cable.

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for the original owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. No must contact the original owner to get permission to use the device. Are you sure the "friend" who sold you this iPad was the primal owner? If you cannot contact the original owner return the device to "your friend" and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

A Verizon-model iPad can only work on CDMA with Verizon. You cannot use it with any other carrier. Apple, to my knowledge, has not released the iPad in Yemen, so there is no iPad you can use with any carrier there that works only on CDMA. You would need to find a GSM carrier and then get an unlocked GSM iPad.
