I have changed the Apple ID in the main ID settings but my iPhone does not recognise this. I have added this to the main account but it does not accept the password.

I changed from iPhone 4s to iphone 5s. While doing the set up, I also renamed my Apple ID. However, allowed the old Id to be an alternate. However, now my iphone refuses to accept the password - neither the new one or the old one. What do I do?

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

You need to sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and sign back in again with the new password

If the old ID is yours, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). So you made a new Apple ID? Unfortunately that won't work. Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one ID to another and Apple does not merge Apple IDs. What should have been doen is mearely change the email address that was associated with the Apple ID.

The only way that you can do this now is with a new email address if you used your current email address for the new Apple ID.

If you have any apps downloaded with the other AppleID, those apps
will ask for the other AppleID to update.
Downloads are forever tied to the AppleID used to download them.
Delete the apps associated with the unwanted ID and download them
under your ID. You will have to purchase apps that are not free.
You cannot transfer apps from one Apple ID to another, not can you
merge 2 Apple IDs.

OK ..... Did you sign into your new ID in Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID. Tap your old ID and sign out and then sign in with the new ID.

In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

To change the iCloud ID on your devices you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted (if using iOS 7), then sign back in with your current ID.
