I have OS X 10.8.2 w/ no IDVD.  How do I burn a DVD?

I need to burn a DVD ASAP.  HOW?

Purchase iLife 11 (or iLife 09)  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.

  • Hello,  I am have problems with coruption of the photos in a slide show after burning the DVD in iDVD.  This coruption does not always appear when you preview the project.  I have slowed down the burn rate to 1X and kept the quality to professional.

I am having a great deal of problems with Data coruption in slide shows after I have burned a DVD in iDVD.  I have changed burn rate from best to 1X with no difference in the coruption.  I have the quality set to professional with no improvement.  The size of the project is near 3.95, so it should fit on a single layer burn.  Should I use either iMovie to create the slide show or "Photo to Movie"?  Also, can anyone comment on how I preserve the highest quality picture resolution with a slide show?  If I do use iMovie or Photo to Movie,  the file size should exceed the 4.2 size so, will I have to buy new DVD's which are capable to handle the double layer burn and upto 8 GB?  What DVD's are recommended?  Any preferred brand?  Are there problems with burning with double layer?  I read on this blog of numerous problems.

DVDs are LOW resolution by today's standards - only about 0.3 megapixels - so there is no way they your images on a TV set will look "High Definition".  See Preparing images for iDVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6675.html for recommendations on image sizes to use.  Using larger images won't give you better  quality, andf in some cases, will lower you image quality because  the Quicktime resizing that occurs isn't the best.

  • How do I burn a DVD. I do not have iDVD, on my new Mac

I have purchased a new Mac (last one was Windows based) I am trying to burn a holiday DVD.  I have made the DVD in iMovies, I have purchased an Apple disc burner, Burnt a DVD but the player can not see it - I have been told it is in the wrong format to burn straight from iMovie
I have now install miDVD but can not drag the film into it as it says it can not read the content.  Would be greatfull for any help
    Thanks

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Free solutions:
Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
Gives a fairly good resulting Video-DVD
Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
(very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)

  • I have 24 min movie in IMOVIE on my IPAD how do I send to DVD

I have 24 min movie in IMOVIE on my IPAD how do I get it on DVD

You would need to transfer it to a computer that has a DVD burner and appropriate software.

  • How do I burn a DVD on my new iMac? It does not have iDVD

I have a new iMac that I can't get to burn a DVD that can be read in our DVD player.  I have the videos in iMovie but the iMac doesn't have iDVD.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to destribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That has worked for some, but is not guaranteed to work for all.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with Lion. You have to buy iLife 11 from online Apple Store in order to get iDVD. You are strongly recommended to do so soon as it will not be available for much longer.

  • How do I burn a dvd from iMovie if I no longer have iDVD?

iDVD didn't come on my new MacBook Pro so when I went to burn a dvd of a movie I made the pull down option was to send to iDVD.  If iDVD isn't there how I am supposed to burn a DVD?  I purchased Aimersoft DVD Creator but it won't allow me to drag my movie to it.

Your in the wrong forum, this is for iOS (iPads and iPhones).
I will try to get this moved.
But I do have an answer, export a quicktime movie from iMovie.
I believe it is under the share menu.
That will be able to be burnt using Aimersoft DVD.
You can't send a project file to Aimersoft.

  • In iMovie or iphoto I have made a good slide show with music. I want to burn to DVD disc for viewing on any DVD player.

In iMovie or in iPhoto I have made slideshows that I want to burn to a DVD disc. But they only play on computers and I want it to play on DVD players. How do I do that?

    Hi
You need to do a Video-DVD
Your Mac can only make Data-DVDs without any extra program.
    • If it's some Years old then iDVD was included to do this
    • If brand New - iDVD is not supplied any more. Nor does Apple sell it either.
(Can be bougth from Amazon or second handed in boxed version of iLife. The iLife on Apple Store do not contain iDVD or iWeb any more)

  • I have two questions.  How do I burn a DVD from a slideshow created in IPhoto without using IDVD which is no longer available?!!  And is there any way to control the automatic zooming in my slideshow?

I know IMac messed up by no longer offering IDVD OR ILIFE on their new computers. Yes I too am mad I spent the money.  But does anyone have a solution  on how to work with the limited programs I did get?  Or what programs do you suggest I purchase to be able to do something as simple as burn a slidewshow on a DVD!!!!  I already purchases Xilisoft DVD which does not allow for photos only videos.  I want to use both!  I have had my new mac less than a year.  Can I still return it?

    If you contact Apple at
U.S. iPod, Mac and iPad technical support:
    (800) APL-CARE (800-275-2273)
You should be able to get a copy of the original DVDs for  a nominal charge.

  • I have extended video footage taken on my ipad that I need to burn to dvd.  Tried imovie and final cut.  Final Cut rendering time was extremely long. What is easiest way to accomplish my goal?

I am a video technology teacher and coach at a high school in NJ.  I have footage of a basketball scrimmage that I need to get from my iPad onto a DVD.  I tried importing it into iMovie without success.  I have imported it into Final Cut Pro but the rendering time makes the process very cumbersome with 7/8 hours of rendering time to create a quick time file to then use with iDVD.  Is there a quicker way to accomplish this.

The Mac does not come with a Blu-ray burner. So you would be burning a Blu-ray compatible file to a standard DVD-5 or DVD-9. Neither of which are ideal for authoring Blu-ray content.
Do an exhaustive search online about Blu-ray authoring and disk creation. This is not something for the hobbyist video creator (and I say hobbyist in the sense that you're not creating thousands of copies for mass distribution, so no one take offense.)
Blu-ray is expensive and requires a lot of planning and prep to do it right. But you can't burn an official Blu-ray disc on a Mac as they stand. And, Compressor doesn't burn discs, it only creates files. DVD Studio Pro would be the app that would burn the Blu-ray disc, and DVDSP has not been upgraded since long before Blu-ray came on the scene.

  • How do I burn a DVD? i have I tunes, but do I need I movie?

Not sure how to find I movie on my mac or do I need it to do CD with pictures and music. I was a PC, trying to learn...

Since you are new to the Mac you might want to get this book which explains how to use your new Mac as a former Windows user. I recommend it to all switchers. iPhoto, which you can freely download through the App Store if you haven't already, is a very good photo organizer and you can use it to create slide slows. It isn't a massively featured slide show program but it probably serves the needs of the majority of users. Having created the slideshow you can export it as a QuickTime movie that anyone can view.
Having created the movie you can burn it to a data DVD without any additional software. Just pop a DVD into the drive, drag the movie onto the DVD and burn. Any Windows or Mac owner will be able to play the movie (Windows users might have to download the Win version of QuickTime but it is often pre-installed today.) What cannot be done without additional software is creating a DVD that the typical commercial DVD player can play. This is what most of us have been talking about. But if the people who'll be viewing your slideshow have a computer, this isn't going to be an issue.

  • I am finish my project and want to end to another person by email the project so that they can burn a dvd to be displayed at our Church. Normally I would burn the DVD myself but have to send it via email. how to they press it to dvd. Thanks

I have finished my FCP X project and in the past I would burn a copy but since I am out of town I need to send it via email. The peron is able to view the project when it comes by email but I am wondering how can they burn a dvd copy of it to display at the Church for our announcements.  The person I am sending it to has a Mac too. Thanks

First off, you're not likely to be able to email it. Most email systems limit the size of messages (and their attachments) since email isn't really designed for large transfers. It's not uncommon to see 50MB as a cap. Unless you're working on an especially small project you're likely to exceed this limit.
Instead you should consider creating a disk image of your DVD and using a public file service such as DropBox or YouSendIt.
If you create a disk image (.dmg) file that simulates a full burned DVD, the reciever can burn that to disk using Disk Utility on their machine. They don't need FCP X on their side.
