I installed Adobe Reader 9.20.  Docs have lines with black blocks. Help?

I am not sure what to do.  I upgraded to the 9.20 and have had problems ever since.  I tried uninstalling all adobe products and reinstalling and am having the same problem.  Large portions of text in the documents are "blocked out" with a black or other color overlay making it impossible to read.  They print out this way as well.  ill
Also, my entire computer goes into almost a safe mode whenever I open a PDF file now.  I have Windows XP Professional, if that helps.   I attached a copy of one of the files I opened that should illustrate what I am talking about.
If anyone can help with this problem, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Barb Paul

Thank you so much for the information.  I am obviously not very
knowledgeable about technology.  I love it, though.  Your response leads me
to another question, however.  How do I check the compatibility mode of the
program acrord32.exe.  Would it be very difficult to give me instruction?  I
sincerely appreciate your help.
Warmest regards,
Barb Paul

  • How do i install adobe reader 7? Am having problems with 9

I cannot open PDF files...have recently upgraded to
windows 7 because i thought that would resolve this
    pdf issue. It did not.

Have you tried uninstalling Reader 9, then reinstalling it?
If you really want to install Reader 7, you can download it here http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/7x/7.1.0/enu/AdbeRdr710_en_US.exe
Uninstall Reader 9 before installing version 7.  Be sure to update it to the latest version 7.1.4 afterwards.  And please note that this version is no longer supported, i.e. Adobe is no longer issuing security fixes for Reader 7.x.

  • I am unable to view or print in Adobe Reader XI.  I have Windows Professional Home.  Help!

I have not had this problem before; however, within the past six months or so, I have not been able to view anything.  I have tried disabling "viewing in brower window" and other things, but to no avail.

What exactly means "unable"?  Local or online documents?  If online, in what browser?

  • Just re-installed Adobe Reader XI. Do not have ability to extract combine or rotate docs as I did previously. Is this a user issue am I not running latest version?

I just re-installed Adobe Reader XI and am now finding that it doesn't feature option to extract/combine documents, rotate, etc. Assuming this is a different version? Or was the other version an upgraded version?

What probably happened here is that you installed Adobe Reader but before you were using Adobe Acrobat. Reader doesn't have these particular options.
You may still have your old version of Acrobat. Look around in your programs and you'll probably find it.

Mac's Safari browser supports PDF documents
Adobe Reader is not good at security issues, if you can, avoid using/downloading it.
    PDF
Safari also includes built-in support for viewing PDF files. When you follow a link to a PDF in Safari, such as a user guide, it's displayed in the Safari window without having to open another app. Safari's built-in find and zoom features work with PDFs too.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

I have re-installed Adobe Reader on to my Windows 7 PC. When I open a PDF I was getting an error message containing  . . . .Acrord32.exe
I now cannot open any PDF's and Adobe seems unresponsive. I have tried to follow a step by step guide on how to fix this but Adobe won't stay open long enough for me to complete the steps. When I open Adobe it stays open for a matter of seconds then minimises to the task bar and when I click on it again I can't do anything with it and have to close it via task manager
    Please help!?

Disabling Protected Mode should fix the problem.  But since you cannot even open Adobe Reader by itself, you need to do it via the Windows registry.  If you tell me your installed Reader version, I can give you a registry script to do that.

Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.

The problems I am having are: I cannot scroll using the side slider on downloaded PDF files, nor can I fill in fillable files. • Need stats on the number of computers that have installed Adobe Reader

Where can I find how many computers have installed Adobe Reader? I've searched but I can't seem to find an answer. I am trying to convince the PM for a project that we don't need an non-PDF version of a PDF file since Reader is almost universally installed. However, I can't find a solid number to report.

You probably won't get one either. Just wild guesses. This isn't something that Adobe would release as fas as I know.
If you want my wild guess, I'd say 95% of the computers in the US have Reader but again, I have no real information to base that number on.
