I just don't get it...pls help

I've been using apple computers for years but for some reason i tunes and iphoto do my head in. i'm thnking that I just don't think ike the developers??
This is what i want to do:
Yesterday i was at a birthday party and I took some photos and videos with my iphone (as you do). All i want to do is download the photos and videos to my computor, stick them in a folder (or album I guess you would call it), name the album, and then email the album/folder to a friend.
questions:
1.why does my computor load itunes everytime i connect the phone? What does itunes have to do with photos?
2. if itunes says it's backing up/syncing my phone then is it also doing the downloading of the photos as well?? -ie can i do all that i wnat on itunes?
3. how do you deal with the size issue? (we're talking 7 photos / 5 movies - 461mb)
I'm not dumb...I just seem to have a real block when it comes to the way this software is structured. to me it just seems comlicated when it ought to be simple. Please Help so i can get on top of this once and for all.
my computer - macbook (white) 10.6.8 - 2Ghz intel core 2 Duo
iphone - iphone 5 (7.0)
itunes- 11.1.3 (8)

Not sure what these have to do with iPhoto but here goes:
1. iTunes is loading everytime you connect the phone because you didn't tell it not to. It defaults to loading as it's the primary way for getting things onto your phone. Click on your Phone in the iTunes window, then on Summary and then look at the Options pane. Unchek the first one.
2. I would imagine that yes, it's backing up the phone but no you can't use iTunes to do what you want. That back up is heavily compressed.
3. I would first understand that there is no way to email 461 mb anywhere. Sharing video via email is not advisable. Many email services have an attachment limit of 20mb and some a limit of 10mb. As emails are sent through an array of relays, the effective limit is the smallest file size allowed on any of the relays. That means that video is rarely suitable for emailing.
Then there's the whole issue of Codecs and not all machines will have the codecs to play all videos. Plus, folks with slower connections can find it very inconvenient to download large video files.
How would I do ti? Upload it to sharing services like Dropbox or YouSendIt and email a link. This will require that they download the material to their machines to view.
If you don't like iPhoto don't use it. It's not complusory. You can recover photos and videos from your phone with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)

$186 for One Blackberry . . . I just don't get the pricing and can't get a good explanation

I've had two phones, a Blackberry (1400 mins, 250 mess., 2GB data) and a cheap Samsung (1400 mins, 250 messages). Last month I paid $130 for both of them, $115 for the Blackberry and $15 for the Samsung.
This month, I asked Verizon to drop the Samsung because it's just not used. My new bill amount is $185.82!!! Wow. I thought I was a reasonably capable person, but I don't get this math by Verizon. I paid $115 for the Blackberry last month and this month I'll pay $186. Was there a penalty for dropping the Samsung add-on phone?
This is way too pricey for me. As mentioned, maybe AT&T looks a ton more attractive now.

I'm still one person who doesn't use the phone much. I'm not going to up my minutes - I'll use the phone the same amount this month as last. After 50+ years, my phone usage has become fairly stable.

It seems that you are leaving out parts of the story, which makes it even harder to help you. What you need to do is sign into My Verizon, print out your itemized bill, and it will tell you EXACTLY what the additional charges are. It sounds as if you, CS and your 10 year-old son are NOT reading the itemized bill. Otherwise, you would know WHAT the additional charges were.

Sams Club Business MC - I just don't get it

On flight right now and laptops just died... Pls help

I am on a flight right now and was in the middle of watching a tv show in iTunes. Then all of a sudden it froze on me. I put the screen down and waited a few mins. Nothing happened. Then I restarted it by holding the power button down. As it started to restart the only screen that came up was the white screen with the apple logo on, then the logo flickered between that and a circle with a line through it. Pls help I have a long flight ahead of me!!

Sounds like that's a good possibility. It may be a long flight.
One thing you might try while you're on the plane, just in case that's not it: try to start up in Single User Mode and run fsck:

Aaagh! Help needed with tabs, I just don't get how to use them.

I have done a search for a beginners guide on how to make the following setting, without any luck, so I felt the need to start a new topic.
I am writing a contents page for a collection of poetry and I have (so far) written out those contents so they are aligned to the left of the page. So there is a number bullet, then the title of the poem, as follows:
1. Abend
2. Der Allwissende
3. Im hohen Alter
What I want is to put the page number for each poem (each poem has it's own page), on the same line, but aligned to the right side of the page. Like this:
Introduction +Page 5+
1. Abend 6
2. Der Allwissende 7
3. Im hohen Alter 8
I should mention in case it's relevant, I am using text boxes for the contents pages.

Do as you have done. Set the lists style to "None".
Then simply click on the ruler where you want to have tabs. To change the tab to left/right/centred or decimal keep clicking on the tab or right mouse click on the tab and choose which you want.
So to create what you say you need, going from left to right.
1. *A right tab* to catch the right edge of the number say 1cm from the left
2. *A left tab* to catch the beginning of the text say 1.5cm from the left
3. *A right tab* or decimal tab on the far right of the ruler to catch the page number
To get rid of tabs just pull them away from the ruler and they disappear in a puff of smoke.
You will need to type a tab at the beginning of each line with a number to push it over to the first (right hand) tab.
Refinements are:
1. *Hanging indent.* This makes the number sit to the left and the following paragraph to align to the 2nd tab. Do this by sliding the left margin stack to the position of the 2nd tab, then drag the flat bar on the top back to the left margin.
2. *Leading tab.* In +Inspector > Text (4th tab) > Tabs > Click on the 3rd tab in the list > Leader > Choose line style+
Just the usual reminder that tabs are a style attached to whatever paragraph that you are in and continue on with every return until you change them to something else.
Having set up these tabs the way you like them, it would be a good idea to turn them into a named paragraph style for reuse elsewhere.

Help with Ruby on Rails and mysql - I just don't get the terminal...

Let me just start by saying I'm pretty new to using the terminal and unix commands. I've been trying to teach myself how to use Ruby on Rails (ror) over the pasy couple of days and have had some luck but I'm struggling with the terminal.
For instance, when starting a new ror project I need to use the terminal to creat a new database schema (I think this the right terminology) within mysql. The tutorials I'm using suggest that I use the terminal to create the database with a command like:
mysqladmin -u root -p create expenses_development
no matter how I try I cannot seem to find the way to make this work. I contunue to switch directories in the terminal, but am not getting anywhere. Can someone shed some light on where I could be going wrong?

designed on mac. plus once opened separately as a preview it works
fine on mac too, only via browser it's got that problem.
Has any one dealt with something simmilar?

Artwork in Itunes: I still don't get it - please help me peach!

The response and the links provided by 'wrongway peachfuzz' instruct me to change artwork in itunes using 'get info' and artwork appears correctly when I follow instructions. But when I subscribe from another mac, the artwork does not appear.
I have read the response often sent by 'wrongway peachfuzz' at least dozen times. His instructions don't even require me to log in. If changing it in 'get info' would work, couldn't spammers change the artwork on every podcast to a picture of george bush or some ad for refinancing?
Subscribers won't 'get info' to see the correct artwork. I want subscribers to be able to see my artwork in their 'album' view or their 'cover flow' view.

Anyway -
I think I see your point of confusion here: you were trying to change the artwork from your page in the iTunes Store, correct? (Hence: . . .+instructions don't even require me to log in+. . .) My friend, this is not done from your iTunes Store listing, okay? The steps that I have laid out in previous posts are done way before your podcast ever shows up in the store.
Let's walk through it step by step:
1. You record a podcast onto your computer.
2. You edit the audio for speaking errors, format the bit rate, etc.
}}}}Right now, your podcast is just a file, sitting on your computer. It hasn't hit the web yet, and you *have not* updated your XML file.{{{{
3. You take the file that is sitting on your hard drive, and drag it into iTunes.
4. You follow the steps for changing artwork that I have given previously.
5. You upload your podcast file to a server where people can download it.
6. You update your podcast feed/XML.
See, the thing is, *no one* can change the files from the Store. That is how no spammers are able to access anything. The changes are made to the file before you upload it. And thus, when people download your file, they are getting your podcast and +the artwork that you attached to your podcast+.
Hope this clears things up for you -- let me know if it doesn't.

The apps that are downloaded from itunes store are not getting installed pls help

I am currently using the latest version of itunes. And i am using an iphone 3g ios 4.2.1 version. And whenever i am downloading any of the free application from itunes store from my pc the application is getting download properly and when i try installing it on my phone it gets installed but after installing there is a process of finishing sync when that appears the mark from that application disappears on its own and the app is not installed on the phone.

Oooft thanks for rapid responce!! It is same account as purchased app, defo compatible (3 of them used to be on ipod then disappeared) and this is only computer I've ever used with ipod. I also did a software update just incase and tried dragging and dropping them into device but it won't let me!!!!! I will try the restictions thingy!

The Help resources are moving away from being easy to find and use, with every increase of the CS version number.
I have installed CS5 (Master Collection) and I'm trying to lookup something about InDesign. First I need to be connected, because there's no off-line Help available, strangely enough. So back at home (I was mobile) I connect to the internet and from the Help menu I can access the online Help about InDesign. It all seems fine, until I notice that this Help Viewer seems not te be aware of the fact that I have the whole bunch of CS5 software. It only shows a Search menu for Photoshop, Media Encoder, Lightroom and two or three other apps. I can't recall them, because after updating (to version 3) it suddenly shows InDesign, Dreamweaver and Device Central resources. BTW, it prompts me again and again to update all kinds of "local help" files, but it didn't notice that it needed to update itself (like the Application manager does). So I can't perform a search for a term or feature in other apps than these three.
I also tried to "install" extra applications (by selecting them online at the CHC support homepage), but I can't see what to do with the resulting AIR apps. Okay, I know what they are, but do I need to install them over and over again, are these actually customised versions, or do I need to save them separately ? The guiding text warns definitely not to save but open them, and then they simply overwrite eachother all the time. (Plus: I can't store them in a place where I'd like to keep such applications.) And the other dialogues and messages are also vague and confusing. And I haven't even touched the issue yet of being able to use them off-line. I tried reinstalling a CS5 application to see whether Help Viewer gets updated with the fresh version, but it didn't.
I give up. After an hour of frantically trying to find out what's happening here, I'm beginning to seriously hate Help Viewer and all the Community stuff. Gimme back my cherished Adobe Help manuals, please !

Hi: I apologize for your frustration with the CS5 Help app and I would like to provide a little background/overview that might explain some of the issues you are seeing.
First, let me describe the various moving parts:
1. The Help app - this is the actual viewer that lets you access search, commenting, etc. One of the key goals of this app was to enable users to download local help from adobe.com directly to your own computer so that you could access locally (not just online). Because it is built in AIR, the viewer itself can be updated so that we can deliver new features, bug fixes, etc. without having to reinstall (or update) via the suite itself.
2. Help configuration files -- these are small XML files that are installed by the Suite itself at the following locations:
Windows: %appdata%/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
(copy and paste the phrase above into the Windows Explorer file manager)
Macintosh: USER NAME (home) > Library > Preferences > chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
These files tell the Help app where to find and download the local help. There is one configuration file per product. So in the case of the Master Collection, you should see approximately 15 configuration files in the folder(s) above. You should also see the corresponding icons when you click on the Home button of the Help viewer.
3. The content itself -- for each product there is the online HTML, a corresponding PDF, and separate downloadable ZIP/packages for each book/package for each point product. For example, Photoshop has "Using Photoshop" and "Using Bridge." Some products like Flash Pro have up to 15 books/packages available for download.
When you first launch Help, the application performs several checks. It looks for:
- an online connection
- an update for the AIR runtime
- an update for the application itself
- new/updated configuration files
- new/updated content to download
From your description, it sounds like perhaps not all of the configuration files were properly placed by the installer.
When you go to the manual install page and select a product, you are also downloading the proper configuration file for that product. Clicking Open (not save) and then Replace or Run Now should fully update the application. It is only one application -- there are not separate applications for each product.
You did the right thing by going to the manual installation page and updating the application to add the missing products (and corresponding configuration files).
If you are still not seeing all of the products in the Master Collection when you click on the Home icon, please let me know. I can send you the missing configuration files which you can simply drop into the folder locations above.
Or if you're completely exhausted and out of patience, you can disable the Help app entirely by clicking on the Accessibility preference in the General Preferences area of the app (on Mac, look under the Adobe Help menu in the main OS bar; on Windows, look under Edit). Switching to accessibility mode will open Help in your default system browser instead.

It won't let me share my movie. Nothing happens when I click "share" or even in the drop down menu. I don't get options. HELP! I need this video by tonight!

I have worked with iMoive a ton and have never had an issue. I consider myself pretty computer savvy. This new iMovie is not my friend. It will not let me share my new video. I click on the project and click "share" like it says but I don't receive any further prompt. It literally does nothing. I tried the drop down menu and I see the "share" with an arrow indicating there are options but no drop down menu appears. I need this video by tonight to submit for work. HELP!

I got it to share! No reloading iMovie!
I do not have Mackeeper on my laptop
I have the movie files on an external hard drive
1. Close out iMovie
2. Eject the external hard drive
3. Start up iMovie
4. Plug in the external hard drive
5. Go into finder and double click on the folder containing the movie
6. Select the movie as if to edit
7. Share it!

Windows Vista and iTunes just don't get along!

I'm having some serious issues with iTunes 7.6 and Windows Vista Ultimate. This is on a new capable computer, with a vista system rating of 5.1. Newest device drivers and windows updates are installed.
Problem #1- iTunes takes forever to start up. At least 30 seconds, sometimes a full minute. During this time, there is very little HDD activity, processor usage is under 4%, and the system responds quickly to other requests. Other applications and games have to issues with startup, only iTunes.
Problem #2- Occasionally, the iTunes window becomes black. If I then hit the start button on the keyboard, the iTunes window becomes normal again, but it is quite annoying.
Anyone else experiencing these issues? Any resolutions?

I'm going to group 1, 2, and 3 together, and assume it sounds as if the iBook hasn't been authorized for use with your iTunes Store account. In iTunes, click on your Store menu (at the top of the screen) and click Authorize Computer. Enter the information used to make your purchases and click Authorize. Once it says it's successful, see if you can play the songs in iTunes first. If so, go ahead and try to get them onto the iPod (whichever method you prefer). If they still don't play, please repost with the error message you receive so we can be of better assistance.
Number 4 sounds like it may be normal behavior... example: If you have 10 songs in your Music library and you Autofill the iPod with all of them, and go back to the iPod's Contents and manually delete 5 of them, then add 3 more songs to your library and Autofill the iPod again from your Music library, you'll end up with all 13 songs on your iPod again. Let me know if you're able to follow what I'm saying... I almost wasn't :P
