I just updated to iSO 5 and then I synced my itouch and now all my apps and games are gone! What do I do to get them back?
hey I would really appreciate it if you could help? I just cant believe all my apps just went poof after I synced my itouch on itunes.
They are no where to be found? what do I do? Im really freaked out because i dont want to have to buy them all again.
If for some reaon you failed to transfer them to your computer before updating, then you will have to redownload them:

Your contacts are helpd on the server, so if you sign out from your iCloud account and sign into another one they will disappear. If you sign back into the original account they will reappear.

I sync'd it yesterday and today, then when updating it today its restored to factory settings and all apps, photos and texts have gone. looked in the i tunes library and in windows explorer (tells me last sync was 3 months ago!) to no avail. now when i try to restore it on itunes a box appears with there was an interruption with restore then a new box with the message restore error. any help greatly appreciated

There was if you used any of the backup strategies you listed in your first sentence. iTunes functions as the backup software for your iOS device. MobileMe similarly aacts as a backup if you need to restore your phone.
Since you chose to work without a safety net, it would seem you have lost all the contacts. That was a risk level you were comfortable enough with. The important take away here is that all computers need to be backed up. And there is more computer in your iPhone than the computers that flew a space ship to the moon. -
I transferred my itunes library using all the guided steps promepted on this topic, when I restarted iTunes in its new location on my xternal hard drive, iTunes did not have any of my ratings or playlists. I did have the hard drive running before i started up itunes as well. what can I do?
I got it to work!!!!!!!
what I did was after doing this( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364) moving my library and iTunes folders using that link, I held shift while double cicking and opening iTunes, It promted me to select a library, I went to my external hard drive and opened iTunes library.itl folder and selected the iTunes library.itl file. In the picture below I just selected the highlighted file and it opened itunes, THIS time with all my music and with all my music ratings and playlists, all still intact thank you so much!!!! -

I have just updated to ISO 8 and my app icons are not displaying the correct icon but just a generic icon. Anyone had a similar problem?
That happened to me for a short period of time after I updated. It didn't do it with all apps, but it did it with a few here and there. Try a few basic standard troubleshooting steps. Close all apps and reset the iPad.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
You can also try resetting all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.
Hopefully it will be something simple, but don't rule out restoring the iOS software, if nothing else works, but start with this easy stuff first. -

Did you restore your phone with itunes or check new phone. You can always reconnect with itunes and restore your phone to old settings and it should replace everything because it is on your computer

The iphone is designed to be synced to your computer regularly. Your contacts will be in whatever program you have chosen to sync. Just sync them back

then use "Restore Previous session:" and then restore all windows also from the history menu.

Contacts are not part of the backup. Contacts, when using your phone as intended, are synched to your computer's Outlook, Address Book or with a cloud service. If you haven't been using your phone as intended, then your contacts are gone.

Contacts are synced with a compatible programme on your computer (Outlook, Windows Contacts, Address book etc) or with a cloud service (iCLoud, Google, Yahoo). Sync your contacts back from wherever you were making the backup of them. If you have not been backing them anywhere, then they are most likely gone.
If you updated the iOS through iTunes and assuming that your photos were present at the time of update and you deleted the photos afterwards; you may try restoring the iPhone from the last backup, provided that you had not synced your iPhone after deleting the photos.
