I keep getting old mail!

So here's the problem. Starting with October 25th, all mail messages that I delete return! I stll (supposedly) have mail from then onwards that I haven't read yet. But I have! Many times! How do I stop this? I should add that Mail says my login to iCloud is invalid. Huh? So I can't do anything with that, have no idea how may messages I really have, and so forth. Please help!

Never mind. Went to the Mac Store and got it fixed. Thanks though!

  • I keep getting "undelivered mail returned to sender" that comes with an attachment. I have not opened the attachment but the email returned is usually from people that i have not emailed in a long time.

I keep getting "undelivered mail returned to sender" that comes with an attachment. i do not open the attachment but i get email returned from people that i have not emailed in years. I also have current people that tell me they receive email from me and there is nothing on the email and it is a repetative thing for them and for me. I have scanned my computer and it keeps telling me there are no viruses but i keep getting these emails. can anyone help me please!

Someone is probably sending spam with your address forged on the To: line.  Could be one of your old contacts with a Windows machine has a virus that's doing it.  It's also possible your e-mail account has been hacked, though I'd think such a hacker would be a bit more purposeful.

  • Is there any way to keep the old mail, phone, calendar format and yet switch to IOS7?

Is there anyway to keep our old mail, calendar, and phone format and yet use IOS7?  I find the new system so plain that it is difficult to see.  I keep missing new emails because the little numbers are so small they barely show up and the plain white screens are so bright they are hard to look at.  I would just go back but I really like some of the new features.

    Man I am with you!
The new user interface for iOS7 is just dreadful.  I turned down the brightness but the lack of shading or delineation between UI elements makes it difficult to read.
It feels like they're chasing Android.

  • Keep getting a mail pop up "enter password for account "SBC." ATT says I need to update my Mac mail server program. Anyone know how I can do this?

I keep getting an annoying pop up for mail "Enter password for account "SBC."  I enter my password but it still pops up. But I can still get my mail when I click on "Get mail."  I called ATT and they said they are aware of the problem with Mac users and that I have to update my Mac Mail server program. Anyone know how I can do this? They want to charge me.

RE: "Mail, Contacts and Calendars preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account "bellsouth.net".
I recently changed my ATT U-Verse password…and Mail quit working… it wouldn't send or receive, Safari worked fine.  I tried to send an email and a warning message popped up, "Mail, Contacts and Calendars preferences can't connect to the Yahoo account "bellsouth.net". In smaller type the next sentence read, "Enter the password for user [email protected]". The Password box was highlighted in blue so I just typed in my new password and my email message was immediately sent…but… I still couldn't receive messages AND the above "can't connect" warning message kept popping up on the screen at random.
Here's the Fix that worked for me. (The problem is that the new password was changed/updated on the keychains "smpt.att.yahoo.com" name-but- the name "pop.att.yahoo.com" didn't update to my new password).
Go to your Utility windows and select Keychain Access. Under Category select Passwords. Now check your password for your current (newest dated) name, "smpt.att.yahoo.com". Now check the password under, "pop.att.yahoo.com". Mine wasn't the same as my newest password found in my
"smpt.att.yahoo.com" window so I deleted my old password in the "pop.att.yahoo.com" window and typed in my new password, then selected "Save Changes". MY MAIL NOW WORKED…and no more warning messages cropped up. Problem was fixed.

  • Keep getting old emails after restore

hi just restored my iphone and i keep getting emails!! 50 at a time i delete 50 and 50 more come ive deleted that many that im in june 09!! the iphone wasnt even out then\
    plz help

If the account is a POP account, the email account was recreated on your iPhone. When creating or when recreating an existing POP account with any email client, all received messages that remain at the incoming mail server for the account will be downloaded as new and unread messages. It doesn't matter when the iPhone was released. What matters is how long have you been accessing the email account and if you have received messages that remain at the incoming mail server older then June of 09.

  • TS3274 I keep getting old email messages that I have deleted.  How do I get rid of that?

I kep getting old messages in my email box.  How do I get rid of this?

Go into settings and the 'mail and contacts' tab, then explore that account set up (accounts set up differently so I can't give specific directions) and see if you see an option to 'delete off server when deleted off device'
You may also need to access the mail account on the web and see if you have to give it permission to allow a mobile device to control it (I had to go into hotmail adn tell it that it was okay if the mobile device controlled the server)
Ultimately what you need is for your iPad to delete the messages off the mail server so they go away for good.

  • How do I get the phone to keep my old mail - it keeps deleting.

    Hello
I never seem to have mroe than 30 or 40 emails in my inBox. It's like the older ones are deleted without my knowledge.
How do I keep my mail in the folder indefinitely? Like - forever if I want?
    Thanks,
    -------S

Steve, I'm afraid if you want to compare iPhone's email facility to a Blackberry, whichever way you look at it, you're going to be disappointed. I love my iPhone for most of what it does, but having moved from a Blackberry to it, the one area that this phone lacks in is its email client.
Like you, I had over a year's worth of emails stored nicely on the Blackberry. I could search them easily and it was quick. The iPhone renders emails and HTML beautifully. However, it will not show more than 200 emails. I get over 100 emails a day. I can look at no more than 2 or 3 days back if trying to search without deleting. You can't even 'search by sender'. Sure, if you go ahead and start deleting newer ones, the previous ones will appear. What use is that when you want to go search for something?
Like I say, I love my iPhone. I'm pretty close though to dusting down the Blackberry too for work/email.

  • Get old Mail-Accounts

    Hello,
i had the problem that my user-database crashed.
With the help of an apple supporter i can use my old user-account and have all files back, now.
There is only one problem. If i start Mail.app I have to create a new Account and can't use the old Accounts that are already in ~/Library/Mail.
How can i get these account back?

    Tobe,
Your objective is to have EVERY xxxx.mbox folder contain only the file Info.plist, and the folder Messages -- these are the only files needed by Mail 2.0 to be in each mailbox.
In the one INBOX.mbox you provided data for, it would seem that if the old holder of message content, the "mbox" file is only 56 KB, and the Messages folder is 31.2 MB, then you could safely delete all files in this INBOX.mbox EXCEPT Info.plist and the folder named Messages. Messages contains the actual message content. The other files are detrimental to Mail accessing this mailbox.
You could do this for every xxxx.mbox folder within the Mail folder, and your ability to access would return. The issue would be if you found the "mbox" file in any xxxx.mbox folder to be larger than the Messages folder in size -- this would be there could be messages you had while running Panther, that did not get placed in the Messages folder. This was the comparison I suggested you make of every mailbox.
Quit Mail. Let me suggest that in the Finder you Duplicate the Mail folder, and drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for backup. In the original Mail folder, open every mailbox, whether in each account folder, or any in the Mailboxes folder, and simply delete every file within, EXCEPT Info.plist and Messages. Also in the Mail folder locate the Envelope Index file, and delete it.
Start Mail again, and allow it to continue when it says it is ready to import all your mailboxes -- this is only referring to those in the Mail folder already, and will actually be re-indexing them, and creating a new Envelope Index file.
Many people have successfully done this exercise, and I am sure you can too. However, if any doubt, continue to ask questions. Once all your mailboxes are again displaying messages, you can decide if you think any messages have been lost, and therefore might found in the backup copy of the Mail folder, now on your Desktop, and we can talk about how to do that.
    All the best,
    Ernie

  • I just had to have my iPad reset by a tech and ever since my email is messed up....I keep getting old emails coming in as new ones what can I do please????.

I Need help with my email account . I had a tech reset my iPad .....lost everything....but my email account keeps bring in old deleted mail as new....what can I do to stop this....please I need your help!!!!

It sounds like your email account was/is probably set up as a POP account, meaning changes you made in the email program on the iPad would not be synced with the server.  If you had also chosen to keep copies of downloaded messages on the server, it makes this sort of thing happen.
If you switch to an IMAP account setup, your deleted files will stay gone next time you delete them.  It won't solve your immediate problem, but it will make them stay gone next time.  You could also look at going into your webmail if you have one and deleting the messages there before they donwload to the device.
IMAP is also better if you receive your emails to more than one device (ie, your home computer and your iPad), since it maintains the same folder structure, and emails marked as read on one will be read on the others.
Hope this helps you with your problem!

  • Apple Store ID: keep getting old ID

I bought a new iPad Mini. Set it up for a friend with friend's name: e.g., "[email protected]". So far so good. I was able to download apps to it (because "New") also had an iPad. Now, however, when I seek "App Updates" and try to update it gives my name: e.g. "[email protected]" I have changed all names on iPad mini and on my computer to "[email protected]", but I can't get rid of "[email protected]" when I try to get updates or purchase from the App Store. The "[email protected]" must have happened when I connected the iPad mini to my computer.
How do I get rid of the old ID? As I say, I've got the "new" ID every place I can think of, but it still keeps popping up with the "old" ID on the App Store on the iPad mini.
    Help much appreciated!

    Sorry for the confusion.
I'm taking this new ipad to a friend abroad. With my friend's permission, I got it set up with his ID and Password, so was able to download all his iPad 2 apps to the new iPad mini. I hooked up the new iPad mini to my computer to rearrange some of the icons -- still using his ID/password. I then must have downloaded some apps to his mini using MY ID/password.
I think I have it sorted, however. I went thru and delted all the apps needing my name/password (all were free, BTW). So now I'm going to go back and using his ID/password download those same apps. Does this make sense?
Sorry to have confused you! Thanks for your prompt reply

  • Mail Won't Quit, and Keeps Reloading Old Mail from the Server

I recently had an apparent laptop battery failure while in Mail (while on battery). The machine abruptly shut down with no warning with about 55% power still available. It did this subsequently at random power levels. But, it always worked on the line power adapter. There have been no recurrences with a new battery.
Since I archive all my mail on my desktop machine, the laptop is set to NOT remove messages from the server after downloading.
    1. After the first power failure with Mail active, on restart I got message from Mail to the effect that there was something wrong with the mail indexing, and if I would do X (don't remember what), then it would be fixed. I did X, and the system came up.
But, it had lost track of which messages had already been downloaded. Every time Mail was launched in downloaded the entire contents of the server spool, leading to massive duplications.
    2. Then I discovered that I could not quit the application. If you tried, the first time it would close the message window, but remain active on the menu bar, with the "Quit" box grayed out.
I could force it to quit, but that may have been leading to it forgetting which mails it had already read.
I have run the disk utility, including the permissions check, and it reports that all is well.
I have reloaded Mail from the System disc, with no improvement.
I have tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist file. But when Mail opens and brings up the Setup window, it fails to find the outgoing mail server.
Replacing the new plist with the original fixes the outgoing problem, but whether the new or old plist is in place, the multiple downloads and failing to quit both happen.
Since all of these attempts, a new symptom has emerged:
    3. When dragging the Inbox messages to the trash (or using the Delete button), they do go to the trash, but remain in the inbox as well.
    Any thoughts?

FYI: I found that there were two very-similarly-named folders in the users/(home)/Library/Mail folder.
One was called: POP-(username)@(ISP popservername).(ISP domain).
The other was called POP-(username)@(ISP popservername)@(ISP domain).
They both contained some of the core mail boxes, e.g. Deleted Messages, INBOX, Junk etc.
However, only one had the file: MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded.
I copied the user mailboxes elsewhere and trashed these two folders. But opening Mail recreated them with all the same issues.
I trashed them again, along with the (boot disk)/Library/Mail, and the (bootdisk)/Applications.Mail.app file.
Then I reloaded the Mail app from the OS 10.5 Install DVD.
Launching Mail and setting its preferences cleared up the problem. Only one of the pop folders showed up and it correctly tracked the already downloaded files, and quit normally when asked.
